Hay JR why are the wires smaller on new stereos. Stereos from the past had 18G wire and today they have 22G.
@crutchfield3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe! Speaker wire size is a calculation of wattage over the distance that the output needs to travel. Factory head units tend to run about 5-12 watts RMS per channel, so quite low. In many applications where an amplifier is being added to a system, we recommend upgrading the stock speaker wire due to the smaller size used in newer vehicles, depending on overall power. The wiring is definitely a smaller gauge than it used to be, though!

Except for the screen and the rear camera thing. My screen is my smart phone, I have the Pioneer arc app which I can control from my android. In my opinion the truth is you dont need a screen. They do, but they’re fading fast. Most people are putting their CDs on MP3 or mp4 players these days. Then just shoot it to the stereo. You can have hundreds of songs on a thumb drive etc. Having a bunch of CDs in the car floating around is a thing of the past. Plus, by doing it with digital media, your CDs can stay home, protected while the music goes with you. CD has pretty well gone the way of 8 track and cassette. Also, streaming with Pandora, satellite radio etc has pushed CDs to extinction also. I have tons of CDs. I copied them to my computer, picked the songs I like best and transferred them to a portable thumb drive. All my stuff on one small unit and CDs safe at home.

It sounds like you have the LS430 that came with factory installed navigation. The climate controls are integrated into the stock radio and we have not found gear that can replace the navigation radio and create a new climate control interface. This version of the vehicle has climate controls that are separate from the radio and we have found radio installation gear for it.

I have an older Chevy truck (99 Tahoe). You know what I want? I don't want some fancy-ass touch screen with navigation and multicolored display and rearview camera capability, etc., and I don't want to have to worry about double-DIN/1.5-DIN or whatever! ALL I WANT is some sort of unit I can mount ANYWHERE in my vehicle. Maybe even underneath next to the gas tank if I so desire. It holds all my tunes, etc. Probably there's an amp that you add to it. Then it connects to the output from your truck head unit, maybe there's a wiring harness you attach, and it switches the speaker output between your head unit and this wonder box down by my gas tank. It's all controlled by some app on my phone. I can load this thing up with all my music, don't have to worry about installing some new head unit with all the hassles and expense that come with that. Maybe it's compatible with Apple CarPlay. Just ideas off the top of my head, here. Not a car sound system expert, obviously. Does such a thing (or anything similar) actually exist?
@megastick93243 жыл бұрын
Yup, go to the crutchfield site, they have most everything you could want. There are “ vintage” type head units now that will go right where the original radio is too. From there you can shoot it to pretty much any device you like. Wired or BT and with remotes.

I’ve got a 2011 Lincoln MKZ. I’d like to update it to the dash mounted backup camera and screen. It has a THX stereo from the factory. Is this possible? I’m not sure if it’s double din or not.

Hi Ernie! We can help with that. Did that Lincoln come with factory navigation? Also, is it the regular or hybrid version?
@erniejohnson87273 жыл бұрын
@@crutchfield hi thanks! It isn’t a hybrid. There is no factory navigation. It has an LED display that shows the input function of the radio, the temperature, fan speed, volume, etc. underneath that display are the control setting buttons and the CD player. That section is about 4 inches by 6 inches.
@crutchfield3 жыл бұрын
We did some digging into our research for that vehicle. We can pair up a receiver and the wiring needed for the upgrade and retain most factory features, such as steering wheel controls, the amp/sub in the factory system, rear seat entertainment, etc., but there is not a dash kit available to help with installation. A dash kit would need to be fabricated by a custom installer. If you find that you want to head in that direction, we can certainly find a nice option for the rest of the gear!

@@crutchfield it's the basic cheapskate model, no steering wheel controls. Factory front and rear speakers as far as I know. Just a cheap car, but to be honest the speakers sound better than the 2015 BMW I had with the harmon kardon, I think this is because newer cars are filled with extra plastic and have a more cramped interior. The 'room' is better for audio. It had an aftermarket Sony which was pretty much broken, then I asked a mechanic to fix the aerial and my battery went flat so I ripped it out completely. Will get it fitted by an auto electrician this time.
