I have that standard 20" K. Works great in rock too and as you said, it is totally versatile.

I have a 20" K heavy ride 2003 model after having almost 10 different top quality rides over the years and I couldn't be happier, i never expected that was the ride i was keeping for life cause i dont play heavy music or metal or anything like that. I just play pop, indie, & lot of 80's rock. Its just perfect for me, it has perfect amount of stick definition, killer bell, and its not that loud when you softly crash on it for being almost 3 kilograms. All the rest of my cymbals are A customs.

I bought the K ride a month ago... I'm so happy with this purchase. Great stick definition, beautiful tone, killer bell (gosh... That bell 9:16) and of course loud crash sound. Very versatile, great for rock and heavy genres too.

I agree man, it's one of the most versatile rides I've ever used. I use it in heavy rock, theatre, Jazz, you name it - does it all. Enjoy your purchase!

Just a point...It also depends on what type of stick you use! Nylon tip or Wood. Nice video though!!
@stixkubwa6 жыл бұрын
It is a very good point. The weight and wood type and size is also extremely important. However, in general, you can fake a drum but you cannot fake s cymbal.

🤦🏼♀️- first I heard of this! Figured it was a factor, but haven’t looked into it. Read an article (from the 80’s) that Mick Fleetwood would sand down his tips and handle zone on his sticks. Can you recommend a good video on learning about sticks?

That 20" K ride sounds beautiful. I have a 20" K custom medium I was lucky to find at a drum shop.You just know when you find that magical cymbal. You could play 5 cymbals same size, style, and make but they don't usually weigh the same. Choose wisely there a big investment!!!
@lorenzomaximo18187 жыл бұрын
I've got a very early 60s 19" A Zildjian that thinks its a K. Its a crash ride and sounds great. Has a Huge and I mean huge Zildjian logo stamp. One thing that everyone fails to mention is that You could take 5 exact ride models and they will all sound different because they don't all weight the same. The specific sound of each cymbal is mostly dependent on the weight.

This video is great! I watch so many- it’s really helpful when one can articulate the variety of facets- it actually does help with narrowing down what floats your boat! Or better yet, what rides your cymbal 😬😂 Pronounced Stick definition with subtle wash - I like it! I’m being super patient before making a purchase - becoming cumbersome, however 😣- Thanks for the articulations on these critical dynamics! Just read some other comments- I can understand the focus on the zhildian for the purpose of the video - 👍🏼 - I can tell you’re a percussion intellect! Gonna check out more from you 😊

I think the 20" K custom medium ride comes close to being "the perfect allrounder", for a ride. It features a brillant finish underneath and tradition finish on top. Has good stick definition, with just enough wash, good clear bell and has good crash qualities when you want to lay into it. Plus the visual aspect of this ride cymbal looks great on the stage under the lights.

Jarrod Bourne yeah I think a traditional medium ride or around that sound spectrum is the perfect versatile ride. I have a Meinl 21 inch and 22 inch byzance traditional medium rides and they just work for everything. They are actually very similar to a zildjian k dark ride or normal k ride. Not big into zildjian but from the k rides I’ve heard they sound very similar to meinl traditional rides which is awesome. Then I have my drier rides like my meinl 22 inch sand ride, meinl transition ride, meinl 21 dark ride and meinl 22 extra dry medium ride, then my cutting ride for loud live music I use either the traditional medium ride or meinl serpents ride which is a beast of a ride with an amazing big but dark bell. Just so many options, I’m a sucker for ride cymbals so I have an array of different choices for different situations. But the traditional medium ride is prolly the most versatile, can be used in quiet or loud situations, nice dark but cutting bell, good stick definition, and great crashability but not too washy and can still be very dynamic.

On another channel Rick Dior was talking about how a lot of thr older K's have a bad hum to them, when you buy them online, if the humm is a factor to consider on a ride.

I am deciding which one of 3 rides I will keep today. I have a 22“ K Custom, a 21” K Sweet Ride and a 21” Avedis. The first is too Jazzy/washy and the last is too loud, too low and with a bell that I don’t like. I’m keeping the 21” K Sweet Ride.

Yeah the Sweets are fantastic cymbals, great all rounders. I still have my straight 20" K ride as my main go to ride, does everything.

You want washy, you should see wuhan western crashes and rides! The crash was so washy i thought it was gonna break for a year, i finally hammered the 17 inch some to deaden it. I think dream cymbals makes the wuhan blanks better, and now they have Wuhan Koi series, for more affordable b20 cymbals.

How are you playing the 3 consecutive notes on the ride? In 0.5x speed it looks like two wrist strokes followed by a finger stroke, or is it a finger-wrist-finger?
