Ya know, i always wanted someone to pretty much explain this in lamen terms. So many anglers make this way more complicated than it needs to be. This video helped me a lot. Thanks and Happy New Year

This is the kind of video that really helps people, great idea. Instead of doing a video that 47 other channels have done about winter fishing. You’re channels are becoming my favorite

Thank you for this great explanation of rod characteristics and how they apply to casting distance and precision, lures, hook setting, etc! The guys at the outdoors sports store couldn't explain any of this when I asked them what rod I should choose for bass fishing a few weeks ago. I'm a beginner, so I'm hoping that the 7 foot medium power medium action rod was a good choice. Love your channel!

Ty, Great explanation on the rod power/action! I have heard it explained many times, and your answer is the best. Thanks for the simple rules of thumb.

Well said, sir. I do often recommend a mod-fast rod for a chatterbait. It's got enough flex to load up real nice and backbone for the hookset.

Great information, but for me i have always used a medium heavy fast action rod for everything and have had no issues at all. I toss everything from carolina rigs to square bills. For me it has been an all purpose rod that i really like and dont break the bank on.

Tyler, you can skip my questions on cold water river fishing. I found a great vid on the You tube, channel called "Fishing the DMV podcast," with the heading, "PRO Level COLD Water River Smallmouth Bass Fishing with Ethan Stone." They told me everything I have always wondered about cold water river fishing. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in cold water river fishing, including your Tyler. A truly great lesson podcast! Ethan Stone is a guide on the New River out of Virginia.

I fished the New River for Smallies about 5 years ago and I even caught a nice muskie there while I was fishing for brown fish... super OLD aged River

Great info… Any suggestions for a spinning rod for a chatterbait.. that hopefully won’t break the bank?

ARK makes some great rods. I have two of the Wes Logan signature rods - ALL CHATTER & MAIN MAN. Super light and perfectly balanced. I also just snagged a THARP series MONEY MAKER. During their sale. I’d highly recommend them as well.

I just bought a Berkley Lightning Rod. Its a med heavy but didn't say the action. It's my first name brand rod that hasn't came in a combo. Because of this video I now understand that it's an extra fast. Even though you don't like them, what do you suggest I throw on this particular rod? Thanks for all the info Tyler.

Bought myself a heavy, extra fast around 7ft7 rod, I think next one will be medium heavy, moderate fast around the same length mark.

Good video. I’ve been thinking a lot about length, power and action of rods. I fish from a kayak. A lot of people like a shorter rod on a kayak. I like a shorter rod but and longer from reel seat to tip currently. My boat moves when I set the hook so I am thinking the longer rod helps me move more line and get a better hook set. I also like a slightly faster action for most baits. I’m curious what everyone thinks of this.

I have a true slow action rod. crazy thing. Used to think it would help with light bites, it helps more with large fish.

So, action is expressed in terms of speed (slow, fast, etc.) and power is expressed in terms of weight (light, heavy, moderate heavy, etc). Got it. Thanks, man. 👍🇺🇸

A jerk bait is another exception to the hard lure treble hook rule. Really any twitch and pause lure (topwater popper, etc). Need fast action for those 🤘

Always good content. From your video yesterday I was wondering if it would be to much work to have videos showing retrieval and proper techniques for alot of different lures. Such as jigs and stuff. Everyone shows different trailers or what not but would be nice to see actual use under water and what you should feel on rod tip or how long to let it sit on bottom. Hope that makes sense.
@silverpunk242727 күн бұрын
Would a good rule of thumb be use a rod that's ~12" taller than you? I'm 5-9 and primarily use 6-6 to 7' rods.

Hey Tyler is there something wrong at Ark rods because I ordered a rod on the 2nd and it still hasn’t shipped yet also I have called several times and nobody answered
@raygissendanner147627 күн бұрын
I have question what is a good medium light casting rod for under a $100.00 dollars
@sarcofalo25 күн бұрын
I think the confusion with action and power is because some manufactures (like ugly stik) mark their rods as MH action or M action. For me personally I stay away from extra fast and fast action rods. I fish from a Kayak and I need that bend when the fish bites right next to me.
@ProbablyDope42027 күн бұрын

Heavy backboned, thicker sized rod blank for big baits with medium bending action.

I think you should have shown the various action rods because then your viewers can see exactly what different actions look like loaded
@jpaul478826 күн бұрын
I think your have information backwards. Extra fast rod is 80/20 fishing close to the boat,fast action bends on the very tip, u would use to fish farther from the boat ,like a jig ,more bend on ex fast rod
