Thank you so much. I am suffering migraine attacks and going to hormone changes in my age and saw that people use bowls and put them one the head and hitting them. Here I would have to choose a size that is lose on the head to make a sound. What would you recommend? Is it like 11 inch or more? Would it be the 3rd eye or rather the crown? I am a beginner with these instruments for meditation and healing and would love to have some guidance on what is best for migraine sufferers. Some basic advice for someone rual living without a shop that sells bowls.

Hi Nicki, any bowl with deep note, lower that 150hz will be good. For putting it on the head, I'd recommend 26cm - 28cm. Trial it first though.

Namaste' Thank you! Clearly, you're doing something right. I own four bowls and one of them is other worldly. I simply gently tap and absorb the vibrations of that one. It is hand beaten, Tibetan, medium sized, fairly thin, and highly decorated. Singing only produces one tone, while tapping can produce a chorus of interweaving sound. Playing all four together is a gas! Great method to achieve Satori in a troubled world.

Very nicely done, thank you! I had seen them online, too, even ebay -- but I felt I couldn't just buy one online, I had to "feel" it, to play it in person. I ended up finding on a trip -- and spent WAY too much for it, but its tone resonated beautifully with me, and I chose to bring that one home. I still feel it was the right one to get (though the price still makes me wince, even now... LOL).

Very helpful! Though it makes sense to go for sound since you will be focusing inward rather than outward, I have heard opposite advice that looks and shape all matter with the sound and the way you connect with the bowl. I guess it's similar to raising a child, no one can tell you what is best, you just have to listen to tons enough of advice then go with your gut of what resonates.

Thank you. I can now use my bowl. I bought a small one. They do have high prices and had to get a reasonable priced bowl online. I always wanted one. From what you tested, I feel mine has the same tone as the one you played for cleansing. I had no idea that there were different times as for meditation, etc. You cleared some questions I had. Hi Rukma, it sounds like it has dropped and cracked. If you strike it and the sound doesn't last for more than 5 seconds, that's most likely what happened.

I just bought a singing bowl. I have had it for 3 or 4 days now. When I pick my first one I could not play it no matter how hard I tried. I took It back and could play other bowls but never the one I bought. I ended up buying one made out of brass and it has Buddhist engravings on it. It also has weight which I like. It is high pitch and I do like it. The sound clears my mind and helps me focus and relax

+velvetpaws999 Hi, Though i am also new to the singing bowls, i got one yesterday in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is a 12 inch 2.4 kg bowl. And the manufacturer told me the size of the mallet has nothing to do. It should be leather strapped, thats it.

+Vikas Mehta In the mean time, I bought three singing bowls from Nepal, one high pitched in F, one in low C and one in Eb. The lowest one is very heavy. The big bowls came with a striker, leather wrapped, and each also had a mallet with a felt-covered top, for just chiming the bowls. When you use bare wood or a leather-covered striker to make the bowl sing, you'll get different kinds of results, but both are nice. Wood usually yields a stronger vibration and a "clearer" tone. Leather makes the song more subdued. You can test it by turning the leather-wrapped striker around and using the wooden handle end of it. I love my singing bowls and use them every day, once in the morning and last at night.

Absolutely second your comment. Thats the way i also understand it to be. But after reading a lot, due to my exciting interest in the singing bowls, I also read on a page that the bigger hand made bowls were actually made to be hit with a mallet to get a complex multi frequency vibration. where as the sound concept came later on which is based on the single frequency concept. but at the end of it, they do help concentrate. I also tried keeping the bowl upside down on my head with the circular cushion support and hit-vibrate and the head feels so light.

+Vikas Mehta You can achieve different tone "colors" by varying the speed and pressure when you go around the rim of any bowl. This will really create very distinct sound combinations, all interesting. Depending on the type of striker, one can get many combinations. I find that the more I experiment, the more I discover ways to make them sing! I turn the striker around and use the wooden part instead, too. And I always end by hitting the bowls with the mallet to just sound a single peal at the end of a session. I love to hear these sounds spread throughout my entire house!

Hi Libby, thank you for your message. The bowl at 1:30 was a hand beaten bowl with shiny finish. It was about 21cm diameter. I don't know the note but if you download a tuner app on your phone, it will tell you. It's out of stock right now but we will have more in 2 months. www.singbowls.com
