So glad to see the Philippines mango called “carabao” as number 1. It’s the most favorite of pacific islanders even here in the USA. We are blessed to have one in our backyard as we have 7 different varieties! We can’t get enough of this fruits, from one generation to the next our families have a mango tree grown on their house (part of our family tradition) and the young ones in the present time, grow it in the pots as lucky charm!❤️🤗

So, brix can vary even among fruits of THE SAME variety. Brix can also vary IN THE SAME TREE from season too season. If you get a mango seedling from Zambales or Guimaras and plant it in Metro Manila, you will produce sour mango fruits. Why? Because the acids in the fruit need sunlight to convert them to sugar- which is sweetness itself. THere is much less sunshine in Manila (Climate 4), versus Guimaras or Zambales (Climate 1) So, before getting into a childish fight, get your facts and science straight.

Year 1980 the old mango trees can be found in many Philippine provinces and during the first month of rainy season month of May, ripe mangoes are falling from trees everytime wind blows and children bring bucket to collect the sweet yellow mangoes! I remember I collected 2 buckets of ripe mangoes in just 5 minutes! The usual varieties are Carabao mango, piko mango and pahutan mango(wild variety with small fruits but sweeter than carabao mango!)

3000 to 4000 mango varieties in india alone. Most of the varieties mentioned here are having origins in Indian original varieties. Alphonso, Banginipalli, Dasseri, Imam Pasand, Pedda Rasalu, Chinna Rasalu, Langda, Malda are by far better than any the rest of the world produces. They just don't export and so the rest of the world isn't aware. Huge population that just eats everything that is locally produced. But they don't import any mangoes as they produce so much themselves

Same question for me too. In this video they don’t mentioned sweetness level of mango. Brix value must be added when it come to sweetness. Tommy Atkins are not sweet enough to get 10th place. They are good for export. But sweetness is very low as compare other varieties.

You have mentioned Alphonso mango in India, but more sweater and juicy mangoes are in Andhra Pradesh. There are famously called Nuzvid mangoes that come from Nuzvid. Few are Chenna Rasalu (small juicy mangoes), Pedda Rasalu (large juicy mangoes), Cheraku Rasalu (sweet as sugar). Additionally we have Banginapally mangoes, which are not juicy and as fibrous as Rasalu. They are eaten by cutting into small pieces, while Rasalu or juicy mangoes are eaten directly.

I'm from the Caribbean. The best tasting mangoes by way of brix content are found in the Caribbean. 1. Starch Mangoes. Extremely milky and sweet.( hence it's name) 2. Julie Mango . Very aromatic and floral smell and taste. 3. Mango Vere Locally known as " long mango ". VERY SWEETand milky, but "stringy " Historically, ALL mangoes in the Caribbean, Central and South America was brought here by the British during slavery and indentureship, I won't be surprised if these types are directly from India. I know for sure that the type we call "Julie Mangoes" can be found in.India.
