Totally agree with the climber. It's perfect for a first Victorinox. Unless you are completely sure that you need a saw or file, in that case the huntsman, or explorer. But from my point of view after more than 25 years using Victorinox, the most needed tools are: scissors, corkscrew, and hook... If you need one of them, they are almost impossible to substitute with other things
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy Жыл бұрын
What do you use the hook for that makes it one of the most important tools... over the blade?? 🤣
@enriquejosekravetzmalabud8530
@enriquejosekravetzmalabud8530 Жыл бұрын
@@urbanknifeguy I'm not considering the blade as a tool, which of course it's the main "tool" of the Victorinox. Also the can openers and bottle opener. I was referring to the "different" tools that use to change with different models. With the hook you can pull things and screw steel wires to attach things. Also you can put the pen under the hook to keep it as a bigger size pen.
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy Жыл бұрын
@enriquejosekravetzmalabud8530 haha just teasing. Yes, I know the pen and hook trick from Felix. It is useful but I personally use the cap lifter/ screwdrive most.

Thanks for the shout out. I am highly impressed with your collection. After owning the Swiss Champ, Huntsman, and the Trekkker I find that I have all that I need for now but I fight the temptation the many different models Victorinox offers. Your videos serve as a great source of entertainment and also satisfies my interests in knives. Thank you so much for making the videos and showing us your content. I currently carry the Trekker at work as a security guard and I have put my Swiss Champ in my EDC sling pouch which I carrry in my car. Sometimes I do miss having my Swiss Champ on my persons as I find the need to use the magnifying glass and some of the other tools the Trekker does not have. But the one hand open and larger blade of the Trekker serves me better at work. This video was one of the better videos I have seen about swiss army knives.

I own a couple dozen Victorinox knives of various models, and my preferred carry is the long discontinued non-serrated One Hand Trekker. It's my go everywhere, always in my pocket companion. The saw cuts like a laser, I've cut a hundred nautical miles of tape and cardboard with the blade, and the large flathead screwdriver is great for pulling staples from boxes. I also like that this tool, the large flathead, locks open, as does the blade. I actually sharpened the underside of the bit to be used as a scraper and it will throw sparks from a ferrorod like a champ. If I had to carry a current production model, that'd be the Farmer X Alox, which just cannot be beaten for a slipjoint. The knife, saw, and scissors are just so handy, let alone the other tools.

@ColdHarborOP Thanks for sharing. The alternative to the One Had Trekker would be the Forrester, which has all the same features except the scale tools.

Hey great video 👍 I have a pretty good collection of Victorinox SAKs around 60 I believe last count. A few are duplicates I picked up but I always try for different models. My all time favorite so far has been the Tinker line, especially the Super Tinker but I wanted something a bit slimmer without giving up the great scissors but retaining most of the functions so I just purchased the Compact after watching many reviews and so far I'm really happy with it. I also always have a classic SD on my keychain just because... It's unnoticeable but very handy for many small task and being on my keychain it's always there. I've carried SAKs all my adult life and I'm sure I'll continue. I carry other multitools like Leatherman and Gerber but for simple, dependable and quality you can't go wrong with a Victorinox. They've yet to disappoint me and I'm 63 😅 The hardest decision sometimes is which one to carry???😉

I started my collection in the 1980s with a Tinker. I liked the Phillips screwdriver instead of the corkscrew which I have no use for and I find uncomfortable in a firm grip. I next bought the long-discontinued Safari model. I carried it for several years even tho it's a bit bulky. Excellent outdoor knife with the saw blade. I got back into SAKs in the 2000s. I saw a blue Alox handled Farmer and had to have one. I then bought a Fieldmaster with Stayglow handles. The next user I had was a gray Pioneer. Currently I'm carrying a Wounded Warrior Edition Fieldmaster. It's the best mix of tools in their Cellidor handled line. I choose it over the Huntsman again, because of the Phillips screwdriver. I have an Orange Pioneer and Farmer. Also have a Blue and a Champagne Farmer. I could get addicted to collecting just the Fieldmaster, Hiker, Pioneer, Farmer and the new X Models. Great video.

Good video! I think in terms of portability the method by which you carry it has a huge influence. I wouldn't want something the size of a Cybertool L (my current EDC of choice) or SwissChamp to be loosely bouncing around in my pocket. A pocket clip however really helps there, and solves most of the size and weight issues. My Cybertool L is just hanging vertically in my pocket, with the back side (the part with the corkscrew) towards my body. Due to this orientation, the number of layers isn't an issue anymore. It happily coexists in that pocket with my cellphone.

I wish they’d make Plus Scales and the diamond file on the hook on the Compact into standard features… and put the pliers on more things, as well as the in-line phillips, and maybe find another tool to pair it with other than the magnifier or LED 🤔
@urbanknifeguy
@urbanknifeguy 4 ай бұрын
I agree that another tool to pair with the inline Phillips would be better. But the main tools affect the liners and what back tools can be put in. And the challenge is to keep to fewer layers. Thanks!

I have a total of 8 or 9 swiss army knives all from Victorinox except for one old Wenger model from the 1970’s, my current EDC is a tinker (translucent blue scales) and my backup knife in my bug out bag was until mid 2021 a one hand trekker (old non-serrated version which is no longer sold) which I replaced with a rangergrip 78, one of the others is a wood scale hiker, I have an evolution 18 somewhere and ordered and gave 2 evogrip 11’s, one to a friend’s then 15 year old daughter and more recently one to a cousin for his 8 year old daughter, I consider the evogrip 11 to be the best urban EDC currently available.

Thats the beauty of swiss army knives, there will always be one that matches someones needs. As for me, it is the Bantam. I attached a p7 suspension pocket clip and black micarta scales (for durability/ aesthetics) and I am set for my day. It handles everything I need it to while being the most portable, lightweight, people friendly, etc. I also have a cadet however I don't use the file much and love scale tools so the Bantam always goes into the pocket.

Man don't worry that's not a collection, just a part of your EDC rotation, just like my 9 SAKs plus 1 GAK (not a Victorinox so I can't shoehorn it into the SAK category). I mean they are so good and such good value for money that it's easy to acquire a few in a couple of years which is what I did, started off looking for a replacement for the Vic GAK I'd lost years ago and settled on the Hiker as it has more or less the same toolset as the current GAK and Swiss issue knives, which I can't legally EDC in the UK. Added a Classic SD to it to pair up and then went down the rabbithole. Of those 9 the 3 which appear most frequently in my rotation over the past 3 months or so are: my Climber Plus with a pocket clip - bought these scales from a guy on ebay UK who sells them with pocket clips screwed in, they look great; Farmer X which is more for hard use days, off road mountain biking for example; and my Moneyclip which I add in configurations which lack scissors e.g. Spyderco Urban with Knipex Pliers, or Leatherman Bond. I too bought the Soldier 08 too for camping/bushcrafting, in those situations it's okay to carry it, just not here in London going to the supermarket. All in all I'd say 5 days out of the week I am probably carrying a SAK. Most of them were bought on some kind of offer or at least at a price below the average, and I'm glad I did when I did. I paid £50 for the Farmer X from the Victorinox website last year, now it's shot up in price to £70.

Hello friend! I've got a problem here. I don't really know which victorinox should I pick 4 myself. I just want it to contain 2 knife blades,scissors, a saw and bottle cap opener. Those are must have 4 me and I'm not willing to give more than 50€ for it. I'd like to get a good recommendation from ya! Thanks in advanced!

Go for the Huntsman. The can opener works really well as a Phillips. The corkscrew can hold accessories and can untie knots. It is a four layer though.

while as nailclipper you can get whatever, this 3 are the best Victorinox models available. Do not waste money buying something less... because over time you will regret not having saw, scissors, hook... or the ratchet or the needle... This 3 calibers are completely BADASS You will be sure happy: 91mm x 21 mm x 26 mm weight: 97g HUNTSMAN 1.3713 111mm x 22 mm x 32 mm weight: 156g OUTRIDER 0.8513 115mm x 21 mm x 35 mm weight: 290g SWISSTOOL X PLUS 3.0339.L
