Hi Tom! Thank you for the useful information. Regarding the writing sample, would you recommend I use a couple of chapters from my thesis? I feel that a single chapter may not be self-sufficient, however, reducing a document from 80 pages to 30 seems like writing a new paper.

One question, prof! How to assuage the fears of the adcomms that the applicant might not be ready for grad school? I heard that explaining not having a perfect track record might make the applicant look apologetic. I also have a professor who advised me to write about my achievements only, but I tried both approaches and nothing happened.
