If you are going to do it I’d go with 6 or maybe 5 inch. But personally I wouldn’t recommend a scissor cut on your self. It’s best to get the barber to do that.

@@theoneminutebarber Thanks for the quick response! I tried my first self cut last week. I used a cheap $10 conair beard trimmer and some old cheap scissors (somewhere between 5.5"-6") that came in a trimmer kit. It worked and literally got more compliments on that haircut than any from my barber... So I ordered a decent clipper and am looking for some scissors to go with it. The scissors I used sparingly, on the top, some blending the top to the sides and for some cleaning up.
