I've been cutting my own hair for about 10 years now. Never got a consistently decent cut from those national chain haircutters, so decided I could screw it up myself and save some money. Turns out it's not that difficult. I got some tips from watching your video that will give me even better results. Thanks.

I do that before this video. Woohoo. Female here. Had brain surgery in 2018. During covid got the clippers out and shaved right side of head in celebration of no more regrowth of benign tumors. Im a sassy senior pushing 70. My left side is a wave of grey infused black curls. I cut that by twirling pin curl style. As a kid thats how i curled my hair twirling hair within a hair pin. So the back of head and right side are shaved. CPAP fits better and doesn't pull on hair. Thank you for the video and reinforcing my technique! 🎉Cheers from California.

I've been watching for last year having found your first videos extremely useful and the only ones I trusted enough to try to cut my own hair. I remember sitting down and watching the videos before each haircut to make sure I didn't miss anything. This video is by far the most helpful tutorial of all time for diy haircuts. After a few self haircuts I'm finally at the point to where I've got it somewhat down but love your other videos showing how to further refine the process. Keep up the amazing work!

Awesome! Thank you. I've been cutting my own hair for 30 years and my boys' for about 14 years. I've been getting tired of fading on my own haircuts and just wanted to do a buzz cut or undercut or anything that would be super simple (but that wouldn't make my wife too happy). This ticks all the boxes and won't have my wife complaining.

I bought clippers at the very start of the first lockdown and began cutting my own hair being quite pleased with the results, even though it was a shaky start, getting better with each cut and time. Having watched this guys vids and taking on board his experience and well-explained easy-to-follow tips perfected my technique and consider myself almost a pro on my own hair. I feel bad taking business from the young lad who cut my hair prior to COVID by not returning to him. He was talking about going to live and work in Ibiza so am hoping that's what he did. (If you are out there and read this and you worked in S.Notts) Thanks for this vid and others all of which are great. I'm a fan.

This video and several others of yours have given me the confidence to try this, and I am so glad that I did. I have two self-haircuts (plus a couple of touch-ups) under my belt now and I am excited about the results. I look forward to improving my technique. I'm an older guy (YOB 1952) with some remaining 'fine motor skills' and, as long as I remain "relaxed", everything works out pretty well. Maybe the best thing of all is that now I don't have to pay someone else to give me a 'bush haircut'! You have a great personality and are a pleasure to watch. Thank you Michael!

What a gem!, I began cutting my own hair at the beginning of lockdown, my first attempt left me looking like the accomplished actor Sir John Mills in his unforgettable role as Michael in the film "Ryans Daughter" (a must watch if you haven't seen it!), as time went by my confidence grew, but it still took me around an hour, using a selection of guards to cut my hair, I tried your method today and bam! you've helped me nail it, not only that but I've made an appointment at my local barbers for my next cut to show my appreciation and support a local small business.

Just did my hair almost just like this. I used 3mm, 12mm and 21mm guards and gotta say, I'm impressed. After a bit of practice, I could probably cut my hair just the way I like without waiting at the hair salon for like 2 hours. Remember folks, there's always the nuclear option if you fuck up, just cut the sides and the backs with 3mm and the rest with 21mm. I did it that way last time and it wasn't half bad.

I did it all by myself!! Amazing!!! Yesterday I received my Microtouch Titanium Trim and watched a bunch of your videos. I have VERY thick hair, and it grows amazingly fast. One barber thought he should charge me by the pound of hair removed.Started with the 1" comb, but it still looked bulky. So, I attached the 3/4" comb and did a round two. I was amazed at how good it looked to me, and I am really a hair critic. Wife took a video through the utility room door window. She loved the way it turned out. Maybe next month I will start with the 1", then the 3/4" and maybe even the 1/2" comb. Thanks for your videos!!!!!

Thanks a lot for putting your tutorials on KZbin, Michael. I keep coming back to this video, however, because it's so basic and simple using only one guard size. I wish I had watched this video earlier, because I made a beginner's mistake last week when I tried to cut my own hair - or two mistakes, to be precise. I followed the head curve with the clipper instead of working in a straight line. Plus, I went against the grain on my front hair which resulted in a very short crop although I used a 28 mm length setting on my Philips. But with the help of your videos I'm confident to do better next time.

I'm a woman and have worn my hair either long, or in a flat top, for about 35 years. I've cut it myself for almost all my adult life, with clippers. I finally gave up trying to get the blend on the side right (because I had never been taught how to use clippers) and just buzz the whole thing except for my fringe. I found this video last night and was really intrigued. So I liked and subscribed and then watched it like three more times today and then I got my brother's clippers out and did it. I only everything with the 3 guard today and I really think that it looks good. Tomorrow I will finish with the 2 and the 1 and edge over my ears and clean up my neck with the detailing trimmer. You're right, if people just follow your instructions there's nothing to be scared of.

@@theoneminutebarber just braved your technique and it turned out pretty dang good! Maybe a bit close in one spot on top where I didn’t quite get the growth direction, but still. Thanks for the self haircut empowerment! 😆

Huge thanks for this tutorial! I'm slowly coming out of a depressive episode where I really didn't care about myself and just cut my hair with kitchen scissors a few times when it got annoyingly long. And as I get more motivated and care more about myself again, I also wanted my hair to look OKish. Still couldn't motivate myself to go to a hairdresser, so getting some clippers and following this tutorial was an obvious solution. As a fun fact, I actually used the kitchen scissors again, but only because my clippers have a safeguard that doesn't allow them to cut way too long hair. So I used the scissors to shorten the hair to the length the clippers can handle. I'm very happy with how my hair turned out (for sure not 100% perfect, but so much better than before and better than I expected...), will definitely do this again in the future! Also funny that in my place, a pair of cheap, but surprisingly decent clippers costs less than a visit at the hairdresser ;)

I've cutting my own hair for over 10 yrs with clippers. On the ears I use the tapor blades ( ear blades) Then on the neck I go from ear to shoulder in a downward pass to shape and remove the fluff as he called it. I also go up one size to cut the crown then I do the top like he mentioned

This tutorial works,I was do that with guard #3(10 mm),and you can go just to your hairstylist to blend the hair line.Second time when I was do this tutorial work with shorter guard #2 and end up with no guard sides and back and almost ruined totaly top hair,I stopped at the time, now I have to wait hair grow. What I learned, top of the hair can only be cut with #3(10 mm) or best option is to cut hair at the top carefully and NO RUSH with scissors.

Thanks for this. I've been freeballing my own haircuts since COVID locked us down. I've been doing two kids too. The "going forward on top" technique is new to me and I will give it a shot. Kids have been getting a 4 guard on top and a 2 on the sides with a 3 in between to kind of blend a bit. For my own I go 3 on the side like this, but tight along the skull up to the top hair whihc you suggest avoiding. Topside I just go finger length on top in the shower with scissors a couple times a week. The biggest PITA has been doing my own neck. That is always a mediocre job.
