okay i have a few things i wanna point out: (i know it's supposed to be a simple guide but a couple more minutes wouldn't hurt) 1. 2:45 just a basic mistake: "should use SODIMM memory if you're looking to upgrade your PC with more RAM". correction: replace "PC" in this sentence with "laptop". 2. as you mentioned, DDR4 is better than DDR3, but you also said there's only single digit FPS improvement going from 2400 to 3200MHz, but in the same way, take a medium DDR3 clock speed and compare it to slower DDR4. not that big difference. so yes even though DDR3 is an older standard and is slower, i do not agree on changing out the whole motherboard just to have DDR4 (3:38) unless you're doing a major upgrade where the chipset doesn't support newer CPUs (especially when it comes to budget systems it's cheaper to keep it at DDR3 board without major loss in performance). 3. jayztwocents made a video testing and comparing having only one stick in dual channel vs 2 sticks, some games saw no major difference, but others saw drastic differences. so my point: check your motherboard spec, and if it says dual channel use pairs of sticks, quad channel 4 sticks etc. 4. 11:04 you talked about CL but only briefly, and didn't even mention other types of timings that would be displayed on RAM sticks and what they mean/how they affect performance. you could have at least mentioned that people should try looking for the lowest CL after choosing the clock speed and capacity. it's on the bottom of the priority list but a priority nonetheless. sorry that was a lot of nitpicking. it was a good video but in my opinion could have been more refined.
@Annodite
@Annodite 5 жыл бұрын
There are also definitely videos out there showing a significant increase in fps when the RAM sticks run at a higher frequency (3200mhz vs 2333mhz). That said, it's not the most defining component when it comes to gaming. Not sure why the video disregards this
@crisscrossam
@crisscrossam 5 жыл бұрын
@@Annodite i guess that depends on the game, but they were right about RAM being the second most important component after CPU and GPU.

@@BerzerkaDurk more or less yes. Storage is the usual term for them but they can also be referred to as "non volatile memory" or "permanent memory". Those names are technically not wrong and in the video they do proceed to saying the difference. And about showing the wrong things om screen, yeah that happens often in these videos.

This may be the most helpful video Ive watched on this subject. I always had a casual idea about what bandwidth, clock, ram, etc was, but only in the wy that I understood higher ram = more storage, and stuff like that. Never enough that it felt like it made sense. Cause lot of stress when trying to upgrade anything (so I never really tried to). Its usually an over inflated explanation by a tech person I know, full of tech words or just not making it clear how one part influences another. This video just gave me an epiphany, bro, thank you

I'm sorry there are just a few things that bug me in this video. DDR3 is old but it's not obsolete. If you have a DDR3 motherboard and processor, you shouldn't ditch it and buy a completely new package. Ddr5, is starting to make its way onto the market. Stick with DDR3 for now and when the latest gens price drops go with that. There's no need to upgrade you motherboard and processor if it's working fine in the time being.

Upgrading an existing motherboard to use DDR4 memory instead of DDR3 is more of a complete rebuild of the system. You WILL have to replace the CPU as well since the memory controller for either DDR3 or DDR4 is usually part of the processor. Even older memory tech (DDR, and DDR2) had the memory controller on the chipset. Replacing the motherboard on a computer you built might be a drop in replacement, but if you have a factory built PC (IE: Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc) it's likely that the connectors between the motherboard and the case (for power switch, LEDs, Audio and USB jacks, etc) may not be standard and you would have to rewire them to fit an OEM motherboard that you could buy. You might also have to replace the power supply, and disk drives if the old computer was using IDE, newer motherboards only use SATA or even M.2 disks. DDR3 memory is STILL available, and upgrading here is still possible. BUT it is a short term upgrade as eventually the rest of your system will become obsolete and no longer supported by newer versions of Windows. If you are running Linux, or even BSD, this won't be a problem, Linux still supports older computers as far back as those with 80486 processors (depends on which distro, but Debian still does).

I disagree that you should only watch the DDR format. Chipsets of the motherboards support only a specific type of DDR memory at certain MHz speeds. Each of those motherboards has a limit. Even if your RAM is at this MHz, you shouldn't exceed the limits of the motherboards because this causes overheating.

Well the new RTX 3070 will use in gddr 6 ram not using your actual ram so you will be running smooth with just 8gb
