I had played for a number of years with standard grips and didn’t realise the availability of different grips. Having watched videos like this I got fitted for mcc 4 plus and the difference to my strike is amazing. Thanks for posting your video.

I changed my standrad grips to midsize grips (Golf Pride Tour Velvet). It resulted in less hand flipping and lot less closed face at impact. Also got less grip pressure which resulted in a smoother tempo and better balance through the swing. Got higher spin because of the less closed face which produced more consistent distance. I felt that I had better control over the club.

Great Video! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you heard about - Paneevelyn Swinging Clubsman (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a good one off product for revealing an effortless golf swing technique without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my good mate called Gray after a lifetime of fighting got excellent results with it.

As an old golf pro I started out a hooker so I added tape to get correct size to stop hook . I use more tape lower than on top half . I now have a small draw & can work ball around the course . I did this 50 years ago & it still works. I also made sure lie was correct .

I have been using standard size grips for years ( Golf Pride tour wrap). I even tried adding an extra layer ( or two)of tape but now I will try replacement with mid size grips. Purchase a new set of Cobra F-MAX SUPERLITE IRONS with mid size grips. Might as well have the same size grips on the rest of my clubs. Driver, 3 wood, rescue and 7 wood need to be re-gripped Taylor made woods except the 7 wood is an Old Calloway Heaven wood from the 80’s.

Hi Ali, I have been using midsize grips for a couple of years as I had started to develop contracture of my fingers and I had hoped that these would help. The situation has improved but I don’t think it is necessarily due to the change in grip size. What has happened is that I have lost the nice shot shape that I had before and I’m now changing back to standard plus one layer of tape and this seems to be helping me to hit consistently better shots. Thank you for your excellent video.

I did like the mid size even though I have small hands that measure out standard. I have found though that the mid size some how slowed down my swing speed some. They helped with the miss to the left though. I decided to try the Golf Pride Plus 4's in a standard size and that solved the deal for me.

As well a size, the feel (soft or hard) of the grip is very important. Because I struggle with arthritis in my fingers and thumbs, I find that over 18holes my hands can get quite sore, (particularly in winter). I have experimented with several types and sizes and so far the Golf Pride CP2 Midsize is the best that I have found. Being quite a soft compound I find that I can grip the club quite loosely but without losing control of the club.

Always regripped my own clubs, went through a lot of experimentation, definitely standard with build up tape. Usually one full length and two for the right hand with a .580 core golf pride which makes for a slightly larger feel than a .600. My belief being tape is lighter than rubber so as to not affect the balance of the club which oversize or even some mid sized grips could do. My favorite grip is not around anymore...the aqua green and black Golf Pride Victory in any combination smooth, cord or even half cord!

My problem is arthritis in my right thumb, so the "normal" gripping of the club (which overlaps the left thumb with the right thumb) can be painful as the knuckle of the left thumb pushes against the right thumb. I now use Jumbo grips, which allows me to grip the club without overlapping.

Good stuff Ali! I never really gave it much thought, but adding thickness would slow the rotation of the club...like if a tire was bigger it would take longer to rotate around the wheel. Very interesting. Also, wouldn't this make someone want to adjust their swing to get back to what they're used to seeing in their ball flight?
@LivinBilly
@LivinBilly 4 жыл бұрын
I would say that if you already liked your ball flight then why would you want to adjust? The theory would be that you didn't like your ball flight and you are adjusting your grip to help your swing act in the proper way.

I like smaller grips for longer clubs off the turf, helps release the club. standard for mid short irons. Slightly larger for wedges, w. more of a forward press and less release of the club.

I use the Golf Pride CP 2 wrap in midsize based on hand size and feel. A standard grip feels too loose in my hands but at the same time I’m not gripping it to firmly. How do some players especially Bryson DeChambeau play and can work the ball with a Jumbo Max grips? Is there any advantage to using that particular style of grip? Great informative video! I use a regular sized grip. My hands are about a medium large and that makes sense for a regular grip. However, I have tried a mid sized grip. They just didn't feel right. I continued to push the ball a bit and really couldn't roll my wrists normally. Went back a regular sized grip and have adjusted my club face a bit open at address and the ball seems to fly better with a better feel.

Interesting video, I'd also like to see similar with varying level of offset on irons? I'v just transitioned from MP58's to I20's and I'm really struggling with consistency now. With all the playability benefits of a cavity over a blade I'm wondering if a less offset 'halfway house' would have been a better option? Hence I'd like to see a guide type of video....cheers

You also moved down 3.5 swing weights. Losing "feel" for the clubhead has to be mentioned when taking about moving up grip size. Moving up one more size to ping orange is a full 7 swing weights down.

These charts fail because they don't take in the girth of the fingers. Slimmer fine fingers will require larger grips

@@AliTaylorGolf I just got fitted for a new set of Callway Apex for the long irons and it's a blended set with Apex Pro for the 8I-Aux wedge. The shafts are regular flex. I'm a 6 handicap at Congressional CC and have played stiff shafts all my life. So, that's a little hard getting used to. I definitely play the ball right-to-left like you and I'm being shot going dead right all of a sudden. They also gave me smaller grips.The pro wanted "to see more of my hands on the grip." Sorry, but this feels really weird and different. I've now practiced and played at least 5 rounds with the new clubs. The ball goes wayyyy further than my 15 year old Callaway X-31s, but it tends to either be blocked way right or goes left and gets away another 10 yards more than I'm used to seeing. Should I just stick with standard size grips and stiff shafts?? Please help!!

@@johnpobiak904 ...I'm not an expert or anything, so please forgive my opinion. I believe muscle memory has a lot to do with your situation. You've been using standard grips and stiff shafts all your life, so your muscles are use to a certain swing with certain grips & shafts. Changing one or both, you now have to adjust your swing. And practice until it feels comfortable.

I like midsize for myself as standard feels lost in my gorilla hands. However? As I watch you swing repeatedly...I am noticing that you rotate your head pre strike toward the target. Is that a personal choice for alleviating an old injury or is it to help open up your torso and hips? Please forgive me if you discussed this in a previous video.
