Two rule changes; stroke and distance for out of bounds. To speed the game up, just drop from where the ball went out, take a penalty stroke and hit. A ball landing in a divot on the fairway should be ground under repair with a free lift no closer to the hole. I replaced all my grips this year to Golf Pride CP2 oversize and have been very happy with the results.
@michaelj1703 жыл бұрын
There is a course south of Minneapolis where there is so many water hazards so you get to use the lateral water hazard rules. If you hit a ball that far off line, on most courses , it would be out of bounds. Back to the tee box and hit another. At Willengers, you save a lot of time and speed up the game making it more fun.
@juanmcain3 жыл бұрын
That rule has been changed, if you go OB you may take a drop in the fairway where it went out and take a two stroke penalty.
@chumb013 жыл бұрын
Juanmccain is sort of correct. The rule has not changed but they have a local rule (E-5) that would need to declared in play. IMHO, though, it is too complex. Ideally it would be played like a penalty area (e.g. determine entry point, 2 club lengths). Instead you determine entry point, determine closest fairway, then take two club lengths).
@DeiSchwarzfalke2 жыл бұрын
@@chumb01 E-5 causes more problems than it solves. Here in N. Nevada we recommend that clubs not use it. It also affects handicapping for the round(lowering strokes received)
@malgf41452 жыл бұрын
That may speed up the game but a one stroke penalty is almost cheating. To get back to the same spot off the tee would be your third shot, making your shot from near where you O.B, shot landed, your fourth shot !

Just make all out of bounds lateral hazards lol I think that would be a positive rule change help grow the game etc

Divots in the Fairway... three rules apply: man made immovable obstruction, ground under repair and an embedded lie. Either way you should move the ball and not be penalized for a good tee shot, just take the closest relief no closer to the pin. I'll be changing my grips soon, interesting video for helping my choice. Think it's wrong not to have flat sided grips available for all clubs.

Question: Most golfers tend to hit their drives to the right. I know it is true for me since I hit a 48” driver shaft. While this certainly results in some longer drives, it’s not easy to get the club face closed. To make up for the extra driver length, I play the ball more forward in my stance so the club face has a longer time frame to close. This also means I have a taller ball position. All of these changes mean I have to be spot on with my swing to stay in the fairway and not searching the woods for my ball. I was wondering if I switched to the putter grip but set the flat side to the right if that wouldn’t help get the face closed sooner. What do you think?

Anyone else remember the "gripless" driver shafts.?.? The too-thin = everything right finding goes against most that I have heard about club fitting where the too-big for you grip will prevent hand rotation and exaggerate the slice. There are ton of grip manufacturers that are doing a less tapered grip for the 'swinging clubs" and have even seen "reverse tapered" grips from Enlow Golf at a trade show which surprisingly felt good and super intriguing, but not enough to commit to the entire set. i have tried re-gripping my putter a few times this way (flat side facing target). It was ok, albeit odd (though I liked the "2 Thumbs grip" more this way), for my left-hand low set-up. Mentally, helped with preventing wrist break and keeping putterhead on line.

Grip size and weight has no REAL impact on swingweight. Yes, you will get a different reading on the swingweight scale with a heavier or lighter grip but you are only 'tricking' the swingweight scale. The swingweight scale was developed with a standard 50 grams as the grip weight and to give a measurable value to how heavy the clubhead feels in the club set-up. Whilst a heavier or lighter grip effects the static weight of a club it doesn't effect head feel because you hinge the club from your hands.

Another great video! One little tip though... buy yourself an air compressor (one with a tank) and get a nozzle gun fitting for it (Looks like a larger version of a needle fitting used for inflating footballs, basketballs etc). Cut a piece of pvc pipe (make sure it's a fairly snug fit over the golf grip), make it about 3/4 of the length of the grip, slide the pvc pipe over the grip when its on the club, stick the nozzle of the air compressor fitting into the end of the grip and let her rip. You will never have to cut and waste a grip ever again. I put a layer of tape on the shaft, blow a grip on and head straight out for a game, no waiting for solvent to dry. Best way by far, and doesn't give you that headache you can get after using solvent for long periods of time. P.s... You'll want the compressor to be able to deliver atleast 90Psi. Keep up the great videos, yet to see a bad one from you mate! Cheers from Western Australia. 👍

Hey from a data perspective, Have a thought... with only 10 shots in each group you might want to take your best and worst shots out of each group. I bet the circles change a bunch. Cool video. When I was first starting out I basically had a death grip on my driver. Fitter set me up with a larger grip to take out the tension in my hands. This helped teach me to loosen up my grip to get the club face to close but my miss was always a fade/slice. After I learned what I needed to know about grip pressure (took forever for me to change) I dropped back to standard and with less tension the club face would release correctly. This whole experience helped me learn about grips tension and how to control the face through impact. Now I rarely slice and I’m turning the ball over for a nice draw when the tee shot requires it. Great video man, cheers!

You are a genius for this comment challenge lol - THis isnt a rule but what I hate is losing 300 yard drives or good shots just because the landing is a bit blind or dont know the course , this is a stroke and distance penalty and for a 5-6 handicap this is such a heartbreaker. Meanwhile, Brooks or dustin or Bryson can blast the ball deep into the trees or over the trees and trouble and someone ALWAYS finds their ball for them.

This has been a hot topic this year on KZbin. TXG also did a very comprehensive video on grip size and its effects. This is definitely something all players & even fitters should be taking into account. I recently changed from Standard MCC Plus 4 to Midsize MCC Plus 4 and it added 30 yards of distance to my shots and corrected my slice. Ball goes straight now. My glove size is M/L and I always had a club path of -.8 but for some reason I was experiencing some kind of weird grip roll in my hand when using Standard grip so, had difficulty controlling the face on impact. Not anymore.

Part of the issue with changing grip sizes is that it also can change swing weight. Would have been interesting to also try the reverse taper jumbo grip. As for changing grips, I've become a devotee of using single-sided tape and a compressor. Don't have any slippage issues and you can easily remove the grips in one piece. Dumb golf rules? Should get a free drop from a divot in the fairway, otherwise you get penalized for a good shot and/or someone else's lack of etiquette.

I think golf is one of it's own worst enemies when it comes to spreading the game. 1. Dress code 2. Can't play by yourself and post 3. Pros can't wear shorts or use laser 4. Stroke and distance, or just the variety of penalties to begin with. Simplify it. 5. Keeping score/signing scorecard and the penalties therein. 6. Ball moving when you ground your club on the green. If your club didn't touch the ball, you shouldn't be penalized, at least on green/fairway where you are supposed to land. 7. And the rule mentioned in most of the comments about dumb rules here.

I had a fatter grip on my driver and went back to a midsized. The reason was, that the shaft felt like it was twisting inside the grip. This led to more fades than with the mid-size. Try stabilizing the driver head and twist the grip with the fatter grip and you will see what I mean.

Stupid rules: (1) No two sided clubs. I had a two-sided chipper that I loved because it could be used right or left-handed as the situation called for it. How about the Bullseye putter which can be hit on either side? They were never banned. (2) Out of bounds-stroke and distance. It is ridiculous to make you return to the tee and slow down play big-time. Just play it with a penalty from where it crossed the boundary and play on. (3) Not granting relief from mulch around the base of a tree. It is an artificial surface. Mulch does not occur in nature. It is man-made and man placed it there. A free drop should be allowed. (4) I totally agree with the complaints about no relief from a divot. They too do not occur in nature. Man-made obstacle. (5) Ball in the water- play from a drop zone that makes you play over the water a second time. You've already incurred a penalty stroke AND lost a $4.00 ProVI. Go to a far-side drop zone, take your penalty and play on.

The rule isn't in place because of superstroke grips, it's in play because if you give an inch to grip companies in the non-round or ribbed zone they'll take a yard, and eventually someone would try to make a legal training grip. Yes the superstrokes should arguably be legal, but the problem would be then the next and even less round version that someone else makes would want to be legal and it could spiral out of control.

Great video. Lots of factors in play with grip. First the different weights of each grip can affect the swing weight of the club for better or worse for each player. Second each person has a different release (some too much, some too little) so basically you need to try this experiment out on your own if possible. Dumbest Golf Rules: 1. No relief from a divot in a fairway. I agree that bad shots should be punished but you shouldn’t be punished for hitting a good shot. Don’t give me this “rub of the green” crap either, otherwise we wouldn’t give relieve from sprinkler heads, any piles, etc. 2. Banning laser ranger finders and slope in competitions. You want to speed up play let caddies use the laser rangefinders like they do in practice round.

Pros are the best in the world and play in the nicest courses in the world, I doubt they ever have to hit out of bunkers that feel like concrete. Why should weekend warriors like me have to play in harder conditions? Same with crappy fairway lies. (Fair drops obviously)

Yeah...why you should hit your ball in a divot caused by a lazy guy/gal who did not repair his/her divots? lt would be nice to have a USGA rule to penalize anyone who doesn't repair his/her divot.
@mjsgolf70044 жыл бұрын
What consitutes a divot ? Is a bare lie a divot ? Just another way for people to cheat. Play it as it lies and get on with it, we don't need to slow the game down and increase cheating. What if I hit a poor shot, a nasty thin with an iron and it end in a divot on the fairway, do I need to play it as it wasn't a good shot ? Who decides what is a good shot ? It is what it is, hit the ball and move on. Its not possible to make a fair rule from this situation.

Interesting comments. I was wondering if should try larger grips as I have slightly bigger hands than normal I suppose. I wear an extra large glove. And I was hoping they might help to not aggravate my carpal tunnel so much, which is a bit like arthritis. My hands tend to go a bit numb if I play too much bloody golf. Really need to go and get it operated on I think.

Larger grips are also very beneficial for senior golfers who no longer have the hand strength of their younger days. I'm 74 and still a single figure handicap I put a Winn DryTac grip on my driver a couple of years ago and benefited immediately from longer and straighter drives. Over time, I will install these grips on all my clubs.

I think the reason you hit to the right of center with the putter grip is because you placed the flat part of the putter grip at the 12 O' clock position which would promote a weaker grip & right of center results. You should have aligned the flat portion of the grip with your normal grip top hand thumb position, say 1 or 2 O' clock. I think if you would have indexed properly your results have been better. Just a thought.

TL;DR - You can watch TXG for a more in depth explanation, but essentially smaller grip you'll close the face more and the larger the grip the more the face will remain open. You can't use the flat grip because it is a swing assist tool on any club that isn't the putter.
@Garbox804 жыл бұрын
I thought it must be something like that. Had he had the flat spot one or two degrees to the right, he would have been hitting it straight in the middle of the fairway (probably with a baby draw). It would be easier to grip the club exactly the same every time if there was a flat spot. Now if it was allowed, it'd be the same opportunity for everyone, so it wouldn't bother me though.
@LUk3.M.4 жыл бұрын
Yea pretty pretty dumb Mr. SG can’t wrap his head around the fact that, if you want to do dumb stuff like putt with a driver or use your putter off the tee box; USGA doesn’t care because you’re not giving yourself an unfair advantage/and/or you can’t take away the essentials needed to be good. If you want to make it harder on yourself by using your putter off the tee, nobody cares, but when you’re adding an unfair advantage then it’s not legal. Putter grips are not allowed on drivers; pretty straightforward and common sense rule.
@LUk3.M.4 жыл бұрын
And Mr Shortgame is the guy who said in an earlier vid that he thought lines on a ball should not be legal because it’s an alignment aid when putting. He said no lines should be allowed on ball.
@superque44 жыл бұрын
*...it is a swing assist tool on every club that isn't a putter* That's not true. It assists the "swing" (rotation to and through the ball) of a slow, abbreviated putter stroke just as much as it does that of a driver by giving feedback on the clubface at impact. No difference. If you're a purist, just say so and we can have that debate. But don't try and say the SAME THING has some obvious justifying discrepancy. A stroke's just a short swing.
