I’m looking for those interesting faces and hairstyles. I love dolls of all skin tones because I love diversity but I have a special love for dolls with natural hairstyles. Any fashionista with an Afro style is most likely going to be added to my collection. I used to buy all of the fashionista dolls for their outfits and trash the bodies. I have a box full of heads that may get used at a later date.
@BrokenDollyTV3 жыл бұрын
That is hilarious, I know what you mean. Sometimes the fashionistas wow us with splendid faces and hair, sometimes, they seem only good for the clothing. You'd be surprised how many people on eBay will gladly take those reject parts off your hands at reasonable prices. It's one way I declutter doll parts in my stash. Sometimes I put the reject heads and bodies back together, along with simple boring outfits I never use, and give them away to kids in my neighborhood.

The main thing is for you to have fun with yours dolls and I do the very same thing with my dolls. I use to be a hard core Barbie doll collector spending thousands of dollars by purchasing 5 to 6 dolls of the same dolls ,be itpart of the play line or the collector line. I was stunned and shocked to come across a doll that I paid $60.00 for years ago ,on sale on sale at doll show for $25.00 !!! Someone once told me to buy the dolls that you like and enjoy them and if that doll happens to go up in value that's fine . If it doesn't , you still have enjoyed your doll. At this present time ,I only purchase dolls that appeal to and are on sale,since I have so many dolls . Part of my doll collecting is ,since I have a large number of commercial Barbie doll sewing patterns ,I sew fully lines Barbie doll fashions. The challenge for me ,is to sew them as close to the quality of the original Barbie doll fashions of the 1959 Barbie doll. So have fun collecting and enjoying your dolls.

This is an interesting topic i was discussing with another collector yesterday. We were making a distinction of how to prioritize certain doll purchases over others, the reasons for why collectors choose to add certain dolls, how much influence other collectors have over our decisions and so on. And I agree, the bottom line is, get the dolls you love. It shouldn't matter which dolls have perceived value over others, what trends are currently happening or who we think will be impressed with our choices. It matters most what each individual feels about their collection and the meaning of every doll we choose to add. Thanks for sharing your poignant thoughts and adding to the discussion!

I’m a huge fan of the Lara and Louboutin face sculpt. I tend to look for a face that speaks to me. I love the eye make up. definitely the hair as well. I also like dolls that you cannot tell their background, where they are multiracial.

I’m having a really hard time finding curly haired Barbies & dolls of colour with interesting faces 😕 I really like your dolls diversity. There is one new milly sculpt Barbie I really like for some reason, she has the blond hair but she kind of reminds me of 80’s & 90’s Barbies. She has yellow lightening bolt earrings ⚡️ & a shirt that says Rock. I usually go for more unique looking faces as well but that one idk just something about her is super nostalgic for me & I love her
@BrokenDollyTV3 жыл бұрын
I think she is a fashionistas doll, the millie you are referring to. And with a closed mouth? The ethnic dolls you come across, even if they don't have curls, you can easily give them some by boiling the curls into their hair and restyling the straight texture. There are tons of easy tutorials on youtube to help. If you have access to AMAZON, I would start there, looking for brown dolls with cool hair styles. If the stiff bodies are a turn off, they can be replaced at a later date, so don't let that deter you.

It's kinda sad you have to explain. I'm a fairly new sub, but the 2nd video I watched of yours was your complete doll collection - which included white dolls. It wasn't hard to find. Of course you'll have your own preferences and things you like more than others. Doesn't mean you don't like white. I have a tiny collection I started a short while ago, but I think my fav sculpts are Mbili and Selma they are gorgeous nomatter the skintone.
@BrokenDollyTV3 жыл бұрын
i am so in love with SELMA too, she is a gorgeous face sculpt. Sometimes I wonder if the really pretty dolls are sculpted to resemble actual people, like people that work for mattel or maybe their relatives? Whatever the case, I get easily fascinated with all the different face molds. This is partially why I don't have a ton of "WHITE" barbies, they tend to make masses of MILLIE and new teresa sculpts for playline dolls, rather than a bunch of different ones. It's hilarious how many viewers actually became offended because I didn't choose to collect the exact same dolls they thought were worth having. Why so bothered by someone else's collection? LOL
@juliasomerville64773 жыл бұрын
Fashionistas 55 "Denim & Dazzle" is a one-off sculpt. I've heard it called "Greek." I don't think that's an official Mattel name though,, cause Mattel wants its dolls' ethnicities to be open for interpretation. I've always wanted that doll, cause she reminds me of a wonderful Italian person I know. But it's hard to find now. Kattis Dolls is a great place to check sculpts by the way.

How do you find out what head sculpt the Barbie is?
@paluxyl.86823 жыл бұрын
You can see for some dolls at the Mattel website what head sculpt it is . For exampe is you look at this page you can see in the desciption the facial sculpt : barbie.mattel.com/shop/en-us/ba/barbie-bmr1959-doll-ght91
@BrokenDollyTV3 жыл бұрын
Usually, Mattel has sculpts listed in the descriptions of their doll listings... check the specs section under the long paragraphs. Recently they have been adding body type labels too. Also, do google searches like "fashionistas barbie 101 face mold", you will see articles and posts of vloggers and reviewers that mention the head sculpts. Some sculpts have official MATTEL recognized names, some have nicknames given by collectors, some have multiple names depending on various reasons. And sometimes, if the particular version of the doll you are searching doesn't come up, check for dolls that were released in a different version but has the same face. For example, PUMA barbie has the same sculpt as HARLEM THEATER SELMA DUPAR JAMES. If you can't find PUMA barbie's sculpt name, you can search for HARLEM THEATRE dolls instead. And then you would be able to find her sculpt name... which in this case is SELMA. Usually, the sculpt gets named after the very first version of the head released. Or it can be the name of a designer associated with the doll, such as KARL. I sound so nerdy, maybe I will do a video explaining this stuff later, cuz i know a lot of others are probably wondering the same thing.

I don't consider myself a collector of OMG dolls, but I do admire them and like looking at them when I see them in stores. I think i am still waiting for them to look less cartoonish, but that probably won't happen as the whole appeal of those dolls is how babyish and cartoony they look. My daughter had some of the small ones that were first popular from that line. I like the bigger ones better. The only video I have with OMG dolls is a mail opening vid from a few years ago when our subscriber Hal send us a bunch of them from his personal collection. They were really cute and I gave them to my daughter because she liked them so much. I will be doing a video soon on my personal preferences of certain dolls over others, and my reasons for why I like them. This was a great question, thanks for stopping by!

To be honest, we have the same reasons why I also collect. You are one of my bases that's why I could customize some of my collections especially when I do the head swapping, body donating, and doll hunting. Thank you. PS. Some head molds do not really have official names like the fashionista that you have painted her teeth.
@BrokenDollyTV3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to hear people are becoming bolder about customizing and body swapping. It is frustrating waiting around for the companies to produce the dolls exactly the way we prefer them. Feels like we are not being heard. People have been asking me more frequently about how to find out doll sculpt names... maybe I can do a vlog about it. Especially since a good handful don't have official names, and many go by nicknames given by collectors.

@BrokenDollyTV3 жыл бұрын
Interesting topic... personally, all my IT guys share clothing with my Kens. I just try on different stuff until something fits ok, and work the outfits around that. Otherwise, I plan to have my son start sewing some styles for my IT boys, their legs tend to be longer than Ken... but I cannot justifying spending more money on a doll's clothes than my human children's. lol If I find other options that seem reasonable, I will be sure to share them with everyone. Thank you for your request... it's very relevant.
