Agree. Obviously dependent on where you ride and conditions. But in MI especially if riding in the summer, get a big flat board. Even a dedicated LW board could be the call for a first board. Just my opinion of course

Honestly.... I disagree. My personal opinion and advice would be: 1) Do not buy a "door", let the school where you should be taking lessons buy such a big board: you'll be using their gear anyway and two or three times with one of those is plenty of time to understand how it works. 2) Buy a second hand twintip board, something intermediate level, maybe 1 or 2 cm oversized but no more. You'll potentially never outgrow this board. 3) When you feel confident about what you want, buy the board of your dreams or anyway something oriented to the discipline you prefer. Enjoy This is the order most people I know went through and it has worked pretty flawlessly.

But this is almost the same as he says? And I disagree about the door, I'm at the stage where I try to jump (>1-2m) and still looking for a (used) door for light wind sessions. I think we all know the scenario, you look at the wind forecast, drive a lot to the spot and then its much less than the weather service had anticipated. What's easiest/fastest to switch? Your board. More experienced guys like you usually argue, it's not worth investing in light wind equipment, the fun begins at 20+knots and that is true for you - but as a beginner, I can hardly await to get on the water again and a door can help me with that. Also, when there is no wind for 2 weeks, I start to forget stuff and need to "relearn/remember" them next session for the first 10-20minutes, so getting out more regularly helps me a lot.
