I absolutely sign that. I went from 143 to 146 to 151. And it's the best thing I could do with 95kg. Only downside.. you don't find deals on the EJ 152 :D

88 kg, I have a spike 154 and a select 136, the difference in the two boards is equivalent to 3sqm of kite size. When the wind is around 10 to 13 kts I use a 15sqm juice with the spike, from 14 to 16 kts I pass to the select. Great combination allowing to enjoy weak winds while others are stucked on the beach ;-O) If the water is not too choppy and I want to go upwind I use the spike (almost a foil performance....), even with 25 kts.

try the markermeer or ijselmeer in the netherlands. if you have smooth waves or flat water a long board is probably a more chill experience. at my home spot where you're in the next wave before you left the first one a shorter board makes it easier to manoeuvre over those waves, this coming from a guy around 110 kg ridding a 142.

Good video! I'm beginner, I'm just riding from left to right (cruising ;D). Firstly I bought a 155 cm board with nice rocker, I love that board. I was thinking that was too big, so i bought another one - 141 carbon board (used, cheap from 2011). I couldn't ride upwind on that. In my opinion, it was too small. I'm 191 cm and 117 kg, so big one 😂 After that movie, I think, I will stay with 155 for longer. I see that SU-2 boards have even bigger flat twin tip boards like 168x45. So you can go big!

I think you did well to experiment with used boards until you find your type! There is so much more than the pure stats of the boards, at the end of the day, you have to feel it and see what you like: locked-in feeling in upwind, manoeuvrability in waves, pop. A friend of mine (begginer) was struggling with his board a 141, it was super loose under his feet and could not do a transition. I told him "try my board", it was harsh conditions, he was unsure about it but gave it a try. Miracle, he did 4 transitions and went upwind in no time with my 137. Also don't neglect the pads. Good pads completely change the feeling of a board.

DISagree with the statement that bigger should be better. My first board was a Select 136. Now i changed to a Jaime 142. I weigh 90kg. I really think that the Select did hold the edge better due to its smaller size. Also it felt more playfull and easier to carve/pop.

Can’t relate to that, I’m riding a 130 board even at 10kts (75kg) feeling uncomfortable with boards exceeding 137. maybe I should add I’m riding Foilkites only, so I don’t struggle going upwind

What size freestyle board do u suggest for a 70-75kg rider mostly lighter winds (12-20kn?) 143x42 or 147x43? Or even bigger? I have dedicated big air boards so this is only for freestyle.

I'm around 75-80 kg and 178cm tall. I don't plan on doing any crazy tricks or big air, since I already had back surgery, so just comfortable, smooth cruising and maybe some smaller jumps for me. What board would you recommend in this case?

at 60kg, i had a 130/37 (TBK mana, not made anymore)) very low rocker ,for 12/30knts ( 15m foil and 10m quiver) for low end/light wind (8knts+ with the 15m flysurfer) , i had a 140/42, both boards and 2 kites covered 8 to 30 knts. i got heavier with years so my light wind board went to directionnal , no float (not a surf) 170/48: askaboard , not made anymore and dont find the equivalent now (it got stolen)

Kevin rides a 133x40 and he isn't a small guy, I wonder if that would be right for me at 85kg not riding at 40+ knots, but rather winds between 20 and 40 knots on a 10m or 8m kite. I'm also wondering how the Kevpro would compare to full carbon boards like Jaime textreme, Atmos carbon or ace carbon. From these the only ones I might be able to get for demo is the Kevpro and Jaime textreme, and for the Jaime there's probably only 1 size available for demo. But with special order I think I can get any of them for a (relatively) reasonable price here. I guess you have some more videos to make :) As for freestyle boards, seem like most of the non-park unhooked freestyle boards don't come at those extra-large sizes? For example, duotone team series max size is still "only" 143x43. On my Liquid Force Radnium 142x42.6 I don't feel like I lack surface area at 15-20 knots, or maybe just a tiny bit at the lower end. And again I'm 85kg (but I ride a 14m at 15-18 knots). Seems like the extra large wakestyle/park boards also have extra rocker so they need that extra size.

Definitely a preference thing. At my weight for big air 138 is prime but I know Kevin loves his small boards. I imagine he rides super powered as well so it could be he needs a smaller board. Not sure if any one here has used that kev pro board so I don’t think I can help with feedback on it.haha I can however work in getting my hands on it or someone who rides it! Yeah a comparison would be fun! For sure more than one way to approach size. We’ve done a few videos with different angles. And it definitely depends what your are using the board for. The large boards do serve their original purpose but also work great for freeride and a more playful feel. Many riders who come from other sports like bigger boards as well because it feels like a snowboard and looks a bit more stylish. Powerful landings are also softer and easier. But if you’re kitelooping the kites so high it doesn’t matter. For freestyle I still use a 142 sometimes but I love 144 and I sometimes use a 147 as it’s the right all around size for what I do. More or less just hitting different angles and encouraging riders to think outside the norm and try different things. You never know you might love it. - Rygo

138 - 144 is a good starting point. If you’re going for huge loops later on, a 138 or 135 even works. Freestyle or fun freeride something like the 138 - 144 is more appropriate. If your an advanced freestyle rider or just want something playful going a touch bigger would be really fun but not useful for big air. - Rygo

134 - 139 is a good starting range. Depending on the discipline you are pursuing. If you’re new going a bit bigger is easier. For freestyle or freeride later bigger is generally better and more stylish. For advanced big air and kite loops stick to the smaller side of the range. It’s easier to hold down lots of power with a smaller board. - Rygo

I feel like riding bigger boards is easier in boots because you can edge harder, so the width doesn't matter as much. However i ride straps, 73 kg, size 43 and 187cm tall so my choice is a 136x41,5. I found anything bigger is hard to edge if the board inserts are not made so you can move to the binding closer to the back edge. My wakeboard is 149cm and i can definitely feel the more comfortable landings from a bigger board here - but this is a predictable system with same speed. Keep up the videos but maybe mention if you would really like to ride a 152cm with straps all year - i doubt it ;) ;)

Great feedback I believe we did a few videos on this for straps Ewan rides a 138 or 142. We have a Drive review coming out where we talk more on his big air choices. This one is more aimed at all around riding. Boots or playful powered free ride.

Mostly for unhooked you need more rocker which then needs a bigger board size. Boots might help a little to edge but I don't think it's the main reason. I don't feel I lack ability to edge my Radnium 142x42.6 board with straps if the wind isn't gusting up to 40 knots (but I use boots for unhooking in winds up to 24 knots). If it might be lacking anything it's maybe the ability to accelerate quickly, and also it's relatively heavy. Haven't tried anything bigger, though.

Yeah this is for riding boots. I'm 200# and anything over a 141 in straps sucks when really powered and riding washing machine chop.... Plus the light wind advantages are minimal when you are talking about a few cm in length. A few cm in width helps more imo.

Cheers for the feedback. It depends on what you’re looking to do on the water. If high jumps are the goal yes 138 is ideal. Ewan uses one as do I for 25 plus and kiteloops. For chop and washing machine the long but not wide boards are super fun in straps. And so good on the knees! Models like Ewan’s board, the refraction the north flare the 147 live wire etc. you can carve waves and flip off them. It’s not commonly practiced but if you can try a longer thin board you would be surprised how creative and playful you can get in bad condition. I started trying maybe 4 years ago and it was a game changer. - Rygo

So i am 190ish and 6,1 riding an 136 naish sol since … idk feels like forever . Above 30kn i really felt like i need a smaller board to still be able to edge properly. However which size and shape would you recommend for choppy water .

I'd agree Galactock. Both are really important. Height especially for those riders at a more advanced level. I'm 200lbs and 6'3 and I tend to ride a larger board than someone 5'8 and 195lbs. Why? I have more leverage over the board so it's easier to control a larger board and not overpower a board that's too small. IMHO, weight is most important for new and progressing riders to be sure they get a good balance of control and plane-ability. Once you are riding lit with advanced skill height and strength play a larger role and you can plane and upwind on almost any board size. Stance width, strap/boot use, and personal preference are also some considerations when looking at board size. -Tucker
