Brian your a mind reader, I was really thinking of getting a laptop. I’m just going to be doing my accounts and watching KZbin and thin basic computing, and probably looking at Market charts. I’ve not had a laptop for about a decade, so this is awesome 👍

We have a lot in common. I chose the same as yours. An an old timer PC builder, this is the best machine I ever had. I tore mine down to 1: UG primary NVME & second NVME with SK Hyinx M2 Gen3.4 drives ( 2 TB ea ). Getting 3500 MBs. 2: UG ram to 64 GB Kinston Hyper X 3200 ram. 3: UG Network card with INTEL 6E. 4: UG to 80W Battery. 5: Apply the best NVME heat sinks. About 2500 total $. Worth every penny. Outputting (HDMI) to a 40in 4K monitor. Extremely happy. PS. Running Win 10 Pro. NO 11 !

You make some very important points in this video. I'd been a desktop-only guy from the start. About a year ago, I decided that I would at least consider buying a laptop that I could take with me the college where I teach. I do a lot of video editing, so when I bought my most recent desktop, I bought a Lenovo Legion 5i gaming tower. About $950 at the time. And I am definitely NOT a gamer. It's got an Intel I5 11400 and an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super. Handles everything I throw at it, and renders my 4K HDR video content creation even faster than I would have settled for. So when it came to chosing a laptop, I realized it would make no sense to buy one unless I could do my video content creation on it as well. And this was at the height of the GPU shortage and price insanity in October 2021. After doing countless hours of online comparisons, it was a no-brainer. I went with the Lenovo Legion 5 gaming laptop. It's got an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and an Nvidia RTX 3050i. I did upgrade the RAM to 36 GB from the puny 8 GB it came with, and this laptop performs even better than its desktop cousin. Speeds through the final content creation, again at 4K HDR 60 fps. And it does it despite the highly criticized 4 GB of VRAM. It has a generous supply of ports including a USB-C with DisplayPort, in addition to the HDMI. All told, with the RAM upgrade and an external USB SSD to swap between computers it was about $1100. I'm completely satisfied with both computers, and like Brian emphasized in this video, I'm glad I knew before each purchase exactly what I need the computers for. I believe the laptop in this video is the same one I have.

if u only use the computer in your home surely u get more for your money with a desktop which has a separate screen.. speakers.. mouse..keyboard which can be replaced easily without a trip to the computer repair shop...also a desktop is easier and cheaper to repair

I bought my first laptop 12 years ago: quite a basic but robust HP (Compaq branded) Presario CQ 61. It did everything I needed and lasted me about 8 years of heavy use - including being used 12 hours per day (most days) regularly being carried around in minus 30 degree temperatures and surviving me falling over on ice at least 3 times while carrying it. Because it was so reliable I stuck with HP and bought a new 15 series laptop (ba508ur) in 2018. Again it's quite basic with only 4GB RAM - which is fine for me as I use it like a Chromebook for browsing the internet, for emails and for watching KZbin. It has Windows 10 and all my work-related applications are cloud-based (I don't save anything in the laptop) and also make extensive use of Google Drive, Google Photos, MS OneDrive and Yandex Disc for personal stuff. HP laptops seem to have a lovely mousepad action - another reason I stuck with HP. I bought it in Moscow, so it has a Russian keyboard (useful for me) a highres full-size screen, HDML socket and, after 4 years of ownership, the battery will still last an entire working day if need be. It's also half as slim and 1kg lighter than my previous laptop - so is great to pack for travelling. What I didn't realise when I bought it is that it has a special Russian language only version of Windows 10 (you cannot change the language) - so from delving deep into the Windows settings (when I've needed to) my vocabulary of Russian IT terminology has increased a bit.....

Yes Brian I bought my Asus Vivobook with a 17" screen with the higher res as I do like to have good a screen to look at. It suits me to a tee and I was able to afford it as I had the max RAM added as well as 1TB secondary drive. My main problem is because I hate touchpads I have mine switched off in the BIOS but as I do like a backlit keyboard I had to dig down into the registry keys to find the length of time that the keys stayed backlit but every now and then it changes back and I have to reset the time out. So my advice to any new buyer is to find out this things first because it is such a hassle afterward.

If you want battery life champion then go for AMD powered HP Elitebook 865 G9 which can give you upto 26.1hr battery life.AMD laptops gives double battery life. I'm currently using Intel 7700HQ dell 7567 laptop and my future upgrade will be AMD.Make sure to turn on battery charging percentage threshold between 50-80% if available. It can increase battery life 3 times.Get last years model if you want to save 30% or more. If you are into Mac consider refurbished Mac M1, you can get it for 25% cheap.Glossy displays are more vibrant and colour accurate. If you are using a gaming laptop get an external keyboard other wise you may damage it.lifting laptop went by 1 inch can reduce upto 10°C. If you have an older Intel 10th gen or below laptop you may undervolt it to increase the thermal stability to boost for longer period of time.

I guess I need a good screen with good colours to visualise, ram, and a fast processor. What d you think? Do I need a good graphic as well? I'm not gonna play games at at all but streaming movies.
