Nice video, but today we actually have the option to throw really light stuff on baitcasters. This is called BFS or bait finesse system, also bait finesse for short. Basically, baitcasting reels with very shallow light spools, you load with like 50 yards of light thin diameter line, paired with light rods, that allow you to cast really light lures and rigs. This BFS kind of fishing is from Japan, and major fishing reel companies like Shimano, Daiwa, Abu Garcia, have special reels with shallow spools on the Japanese domestic market. The idea is to use really light rigs for highly pressured bass on local lakes in Japan, as well as stream trout fishing, and UL inshore fishing applications. I've switched over from using UL spinning gear, to BFS gear like 2 years ago. I've got a number of BFS combos now, and I love fishing this way! Most the time I'm throwing UL sized lures for multispecies in freshwater. I never like to leave home without my Shimano Scorpion BFS XG! It's a sexy little reel.

I keep all 3 in the boat. No reason to limit myself on how many tools I have at my disposal. I have my Lew's Mach II for baitcasting, a couple Pflueger Presidents for spinning and an Omega Pro for spincasting. I'm still trying to talk myself into getting a Shimano Curado DC baitcaster but I ain't rich. 😂

Great info. I always heard that if we using the finesses application for fishing we would use spinning. But another question came into mind. How to choose the size 😅 I had this Abu Garcia Hornet Stinger Plus line rating 4-12 but still confuse about the reel size whether to choose 2000 or 3000 size. Hope you can help me with a guideline 🙏😁

Look into BFS baitcasting gear then. BFS reels have shallow light spools which allow you to throw very light lures and rigs. You could replace spinning reels completely with BFS gear, for lighter stuff.

This video is complete nonsense, baitcasters are seen by actual fisherman as a typical bass or lake fishing rig. For serious large fish, spinning reels are obviously used by nearly everyone. Large wheel-type casters are used for sharks or large sport fish, but otherwise the baitcasters that you see for sale at a shop are not for serious fish. For example king salmon fishing, nobody is going to use a baitcaster lol

Recently got into fishing. Started with a very basic spincaster and have caught all of my first 15 fish (13 smallmouth and 2 largemouth) on the spincaster which in fairness I have had a month longer. The other combo is a baitcaster with CXX HD line and a M/H abu 7’ rod. I have a starter combo that Ive caught all of my fish on plastic worms, mostly Texas rigged. I’m thinking of getting a next level spinning combo as a bridge setup. My question is what should I be looking for, have never owned a spinning rod/reel? Thanks Mike

So for the people like me that have never used a bait casting reel what is a reel you could recommend that does not coat what a tournament fisherman would spend.I know there are dif. types of braking systems which is best for the novice.

Hello Mike ! I wanted to ask you if it is possible to fish with a big bait with the rods of your version. I know the stem endurance test is 140 grams for the 2.55 meter version. However, when fishing for large pike, it is important to extend the part of the handle behind the reel so that the handle of the rod can be pressed into the armpit when punching, I want to buy your version of the rod at the moment, but I'm afraid the length of the handle. Isnt it shorter than the ABU GARCIA FANTASIA BEAST model? which is specifically intended for fishing for large pike I hope i will get your answer soon ! Thank you, with best regards, Rolands !

Another great video. I'm hooked on the In The Shop Videos. Any reason you left hand reel on your spinning rod but right hand spinning on the bait caster? Why not the same on both?
@Larry77777
@Larry77777 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian: The vast majority of baitcasting reels sold are right handle only. Sucks for righthanded people who like to hold the rod in their right hand. They have to switch hands as soon as they've casted. Spinning reels have interchangeable handles to accommodate people's preferences for holding the rod with their strongest hand.
@sgtpavlov
@sgtpavlov 4 жыл бұрын
@@Larry77777 Actually most baitcasting reels on the market today, are made in both left and right hand. Years ago they were mostly made in right hand only, and that's the reason a lot of guys use right handed reels today. They were taught to use right hand baitcasters because that's all they had.
@Larry77777

What nonsense. One can customize all bait weights with fishing rods and wheels. It has more to do with tradition. In my country, 98% of all fishermen only use what he calls casting (spinning wheels). Except at sea here, 98% use large multiplier wheels.

This video is nonsense, you have it exactly backwards. Baitcasters are used for lake and river fishing, anyone fishing the ocean is going to use a reel. Argue all you want, west or east coast I extremely rarely see anyone with a baitcaster. Basically never.
