Thx for the info, this is another part of bass fishing with many options. I have 6.6 to 1 ratio, and 7.6 to 1 ratio , was looking to 9.1 to 1 for top water and cranking. I fish from the boat and get the fact about coming towards the cast spot, but is the faster really that critical? I like your explanation, and the fact that I have the speeds you had mentioned. Do you think I should go with the 9.1 to 1? I guess it’s up to me ,but would love an opinion,thx

Started out with 6 to 6 to 1 ratio Quantum Pulse Bait caster. Then 7 to 1 to 1 ratio on a Quantum ACCURIST PT S3. Next up 8 to 1 to1 Smoke S3 PT. Don't like Double magnates. Keep it to the KISS method! Shawn
@txman2015 жыл бұрын
You don't have a "6 to 6" ratio reel. That would be 1:1. What you most likely have is a 6.6:1. That means the spool turns 6.6 revolutions for each full turn of the handle. That Smoke S3 is 8.1:1, meaning 8.1 spool revs for one full handle turn.

@@txman201 Yes, Your right! I left off the one because alot of fishermen know what I am talking about. What I was saying was that 6 to 6 to 1 Pulse was my first baitcaster reel. Now I have a 7 to 1 to 1. Then I am going 8 to 1 to 1. I am moving up in ratio to reel more line in. I will use these different ratio for different baits. But, Thank's for judging my text. Because you knew what I was trying to say any way! Shawn
@txman2015 жыл бұрын
@@shawnbeck2303 No, you still don't seem to understand what gear ratio is, or at least you don't write about it correctly. There are not three numbers to a gear ratio (example: "6 to 6 to 1"). There are only two numbers, with the second one being "1" to reference one complete revolution of the handle. The first number is often fractional. Example: 6.6:1. This is read as "six point six to one" not "six to six to one". The example given means that the spool revolves six and six tenths revolutions when the handle is turned exactly one revolution. There is no middle number to a gear ratio.

You could always slow down the retrieve with a fast ratio but never speed up a slow ratio if you need a fast retrieve. If you don't have the budget for a bunch of rods to have several setups that is or don't want to carry around to many poles if you are bank fishing.
@travissnyder82775 жыл бұрын
Hi speed reels all the way. Easier to reel slower than it is to reel faster. Yes, certain techniques requires a slow gear ratio. I however, do not follow that rule and always go to the fastest gear ratio reels and just reel slower for whatever technique I use and I don't have any problems. 👍

I've seen several videos on this subject, with multiple pros giving totally different points of view. I really think it all depends on your fishing style, whether on the bank or on a boat. I don't think there's one real answer for the reel speed question. A high speed reel is always a good choice if you have to take up slack quickly but other than that I think it all depends on the fisherman.
@tommymckiddy78725 жыл бұрын
Roland does make a very good point about using a faster reel when you're moving in a boat though.
