I always thought the white of the diamond clashes with the yellow of the gold and looks mismatched to me. But the white on white gold looks expensive and classic. But it really comes down to personal opinions and tastes with any jewelry.

@Mathew Long David's bridal did a survey where they found 57% of women were unsatisfied with their rings. There's been other sources that say similiar things as well. So of course you can get a ring you think she'll like and she'll probably love It, but if she doesn't do you really want her to be stuck wearing a ring she doesn't like for the rest of her life while pretending to love it? A ring is a big investment, make sure you know what your partner likes first before purchasing it. Chances are she's left you clues in the form of Pinterest or etsy, or else she's made sure her best friends knows what she likes in the event that you ask the friend for advise.

Because 14k is cheaper than 18k. Specifically if you buying in a retail store most people won't be able to afford and 18k with a 1ct diamond. Most retail stores sales 3 to 5 time their cost price. So if the ring cost them $5,000 they would sell it for $15,000 - $20,000 or more depending the brand of the store.

@@MPD90 yes, specifically in a Jewelery store. It's sad but that's how it works( I work in a retail store). They even make you believe platinum is more expensive than gold when is not. You can check prices in the stock market. Platinum has less value than gold.

All of that is BS by Retail stores they just want your money, if I was working right now I would say yes to all the above but in reality is not like that. Anyway if you ever want to get a ring its better to go to the diamond and gold district they give you better prices (the real price of gold and diamonds). Most of them sale wholesale but some sale individually.

How do you know which ring SHE wants? Imagine a gift you have to get for someone you REALLY love. You have to empty half your savings for it and shoot a dart into the darkness as to what it will look like and if she'll like it. Nothing during our relationship has involved ring size, shape, diamond or anything. It's just not what we talk about. To anyone who has bought an engagement ring, did your girl honestly love it? Is she just bound to love whatever you get her because it's from you? Or did you seriously jump through hoops to guess right? Choosing to marry each other should be the real tough choice right? Will the ring I get make the least bit of difference in that? Assume she feels the same about me and I propose without a ring, shouldn't I leave if that changes her mind?
