Thank you for this video! I have a question for you: I kiteboard, surf, and wakeboard, but I've yet to wing, and my wife is a complete novice/beginner (no watersport experience). I'm trying to figure out a setup that will work for both of us to learn on. I know it's not ideal, but I'm trying to save some money. I'm 6'0 190lbs (86kg) and she is 5'4" 120lbs (55kg)... This is the setup I have in mind: Board 90L, Foil 72-75, Front wing 1850, wing 5.0... Conditions at our spot are deep water and wind 10-20 knots. Thank you in advance

Awesome video with so much information. I looking at a secondhand Naismith S26 3.6m. Maybe a bit too small having watched this though. Thanks guys. Looking forward to my future in the sport.

Thanks for the info! Only thing I'm wondering about is the height of the mast. I'm a total beginner so correct me if I'm wrong but I have a pretty high mast and am happy with that because the most annoying crashes so far have been when the foil escapes the water. So I'm really happy that I have a long mast so I have more area to play with. Sometimes I fly accidentally a bit too high for my comfort but instead of crashing, I just shift weight on the front foot and nicely go lower again. So I thought lower mast is only beneficial for shallow water and actually is more suitable for more advanced learners?

Hey friend. Great video. Thanks. What size wing do you think would be good to practice on a SUP and transition to a foil? I'm 5'11 70kg.

Very good video. Would help to be a little more specific on the rear foil wing. Still not sure which way to go. Also, you could benefit greatly by using mics. It would up your vid production game immensely.

Thanks for feedback! Yeah this video we had issues with the mics. Will make it better for you next time! Which rear foil are you looking at. For a beginner I would look at something with around 300-400cm2 area. But it does depend on your front foil too.

Great video. What do you think about the dual purpose boards? I'm a windsurfer and crossing from windsurf, to windfoil to, wingfoil seems to make sense.

Honestly, I would just go with a dedicated wing foil board. I've seen people get the crossover boards that have a windsurfing mast track in it, and they never end up using it for windsurf foiling, then it ends up being too big and they sell it on quickly. If you can already windsurf then you will end up learning winging quickly and love it, and won't want this big crossover board. Also you save money having one board, but you still have to have two different Hydrofoil setups for windsurf foiling and wing foiling. Hope that helps!

Hi guys, great vid thank you! One question still: What do you think about inflatable boards? Do they make any sense? I live some 500km away from the mediterranean and transporting a smaller package by car would help a lot - but only if they are stable enough and make sense... Would really be happy about a reply on this! Thank you all so much!

Hi Michael, I haven't seen many people use them but they do work! If it gets you on the water and on foil then it's probably worth it!

I'm happy with my inflatable. It's 120kg buoyancy and I'm 65kg so the board is big but I'm damn happy with the extra buoyancy and stability. I think I want to switch to a small hard board later but for now I'm very pleased with the stable high buoyancy inflatable. It's a bit harder in chop (more area that gets smashed) and it's a bit more sticky to the water but totally fine. Had the pleasure to be able to try friend's boards, one 70 kg and one 35 kg. Both hard boards. I was able to foil both behind the dinghy but mine was definitely most suitable for beginners (it's hard with the wing!). The advanced guy was surprised that it reacts well. So if space is an issue, I'd go for the inflatable until you're so advanced that you only need/want a tiny board :) I do have to say I'm a total beginner (can foil behind a dinghy now, and yesterday first time foiling with wing),but still I hope this info helps you.

Thank you for the review... I am a kitesurfer and windsurfer...76 kg and 175 cm. I am thinking of starting with 120 liter board with 70 cm(!?) mast and 2000-2200 front foil... What do you guys think?

Yeah that sounds like a good place to start. You got a bit of kiteboarding experience so you will be fine. You might move to a ~1600cm2 front foil after get better. Have fun!

I'm not sure a short mast is the way to go for beginners, you have less margin for error with a short mast, and if you do get a short mast, it wont be long before you then have to buy another mast that's longer.

Looking at getting a board and a wing. I will just be learning from scratch. I have Been stand up paddling 3 years now but have no experience with foils. will be on big windy lakes , also dock start pumping and riding boat wakes. I am 95-100kg I am looking for one board and foil as they are to much to get multiples. Thanks for the help guys.

You will want a decent size board to start. Maybe more than 6ft and 130L at least. Many foils to choose from, just go for a big front wing. You can email shq@shq.com.au if you want specific gear, they can ship Australia, wide if that’s where you located

HI guys, I have a question. IM 100kg so for me to start i Have to get 140L board and I cannot see such big board in our local shop. Do you have any recommendations for me?
@wingfoillife3901
@wingfoillife3901 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, you don’t have to get a 140L board if you have some previous water experience? Fanatic have a 6’11” 142L board and JP have a 7ft foil board that is about 125L. Both of those could suit you to start
