It seems so simple but i cant get it. Its impossible to strum while setting your palm down all in one instance because you either smack your palm too hard, or the strings buzz still. Hknestly Whats the diference between that and just slapping the body to mute the strings
@OneMusicSchool6 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. The chucking allows you to keep the motion of strumming while playing. The slapping or muting with your palm can work, but ti takes more time and would be difficult if you wanted to strum faster. Don't give up. It may take some time, so keep practicing. I didn't get it right away either :).

Thank you Katie, I'm finding your chuck strumming technique a lot more helpful and (to be honest) an easier technique than the technique I was trying to follow on KZbin. I guess that's just the way it is, some techniques one finds easier to follow than others, it does not mean however that the other technique is wrong.

@OneMusicSchool7 жыл бұрын
I completely understand where you are coming from. The 3rd one was the hardest for me as well, and it took me months to get it. First, work on the fingers/thumb strumming, and the try just placing your palm on the strings to make the chucking sound without a chord. It may not sound the best at first, but keep practicing. It gets better over time. I hope that helps :). Keep playing, and you can do it!

I actually really try to respond to every comment, so no worries. I love talking with my subscribers. I would say that the last way to chuck is not very common, and the second way is the most common. I'm making a strumming video today and I'll have it posted soon about a few ways to strum the ukulele so that it doesn't sound muffled. Pretend like you have a pick between your pointer and thumb, and use the index fingernail to strum down and the nail and pad of your index finger to strum up. It's going to feel very strange at first, but you'll get used to it. Just try strumming slowly first. I hope that helps :).

@OneMusicSchool6 жыл бұрын
Instead of using your pointer finger, use the pick. Your palm is going to must the strings first. I would say that the first and second way to chuck would be your best option if you are using a pick. I hope that helps.

When I do the palm chuck, it still makes a sound and I don't know what to do.....

Hmmm, it's probably because your finger is hitting the strings before your palm can fully mute the strings. Try using not only your palm but using the side of your pinky finger to help you mute as you chuck. I hope that helps. Let me know if it works or not.

I strum with my thumb, so how do I do this
@OneMusicSchool5 жыл бұрын
Oh boy. That's a tricky thing. Usually when I see my students strum with their thumbs, I have them try to learn to strum with their forefinger so that they can eventually chuck and try different strumming patterns. I guess you could try using the heel of your palm instead of the outer portion under your pinky region. Maybe that would help.
