We've seen this on person during our visit at the museum in 2019. It is majestic.

I love them. Once upon a time I gave a finished plastic model of the HMS bounty to an uncle. After a couple of months my aunt put it in the tub and used the shower to clean it. Last sailing.

By God it's magnificent! I never thought I'd be jealous of the cleaning lady. 😁😁 Just hope to never hear "oops".

My visit to the Rijksmuseum was one of the highlights of my first trip to Europe from Australia! The whole place was outstanding, and although being an Art student and having seen illustrations in books of Rembrandt's De Nachtwacht. The Night Watch, I had no idea of the scale or magnificence of the artwork ! I felt that I could just step into the painting !

A true show of beauty, art and naval history. Few places in the world treats these passages of an era so zealously that the "Beautiful" was the focus of many reigns, artists and delicacy in their buildings, whether naval or architectural buildings. 👏👏👏

Absolutely a beautiful, masterfully detailed piece of historical maritime national treasure. It was absolutely breathtaking to see this massive scale model up close being so painstakingly cleaned. Great filming 🎞 🎥, appreciate see sections up close. Looking forward to seeing more outstanding videos of more historic model ships. Thank you so very much. I have shared this with many others, family, friends, colleagues, classic car enthusiasts, along with scale model railroaders, scale model car, aircraft, ships builders and enthusiasts. 👍🏻😎 ship 🛳👍🏻😎🎥🎞🛳👍🏻😎

All hands on deck. That seems to be a tedious task but i see the tools you use are very specific. I did not think an occupation like this existed. Well done

That model is so good that when they are working on the deck its as if you are standing on the deck of the real ship ! Did you notice how even the ropes are all hand made and made to the correct dimensions ? But why or why is it not in a glass case ? It would keep it clean and dirt in time will destroy this this wonderful artifact !

I once built and detailed the Revell full size Cutty Sark with 39 billowing sails and full rigging. No glass case. It got beat up during cleaning, moving, etc. I should have built or bought a glass case but didn't. It sits on the work bench wanting months of repairs and re-rigging to replace original rotted lines. I always wished that I had put the work into a wooden version with quality rigging.

Is there any website or book on how to build a model ship that size? I would love to know a source to learn from.
@russellstone9056
@russellstone9056 2 жыл бұрын
It would essentially be the same as building any ship model. There are kits out there up to about 4 ft long. You could use instructions and plans from one of those models and just blow them up to the size you want. Most people don't want to model that size because of the difficulty in displaying it. Take a look at Philip Reed videos on KZbin. He is a master and builds in 1/16" = 1 ft scale. His models rival the model in this video in every way even though they are much smaller. They are easier to display in glass cases so they can be protected. It's better to display models in cases due to their fragile nature.

There are also many forums online. Plus you can go now to Google and search for model ship building books. There are quite a few of them now as well as plans and manuals available.

Much more useful is to blow off the dust and then suck it through filters. Swiping it by brushes eventually wear off the paint. Blowing air would be more gentle cleaning method.

I was at the museum earlier this month. The William Rex was one of my favorite pieces. I was so surprised that it wasn't enclosed in a glass case to protect it from the dust. Why isn't it enclosed?
@dauntlesschicken9756

Probably for visitors to be able to view it more closely? But I agree it should be enclosed.

It doesn't look as vulnerable as other model ships. If someone where to touch it it wouldn't get damaged right away. Besides that it looks nicer without a glass box around it so why not.

@@Christian-cb9jr so it could have longer lifespan, human hands have a little bit acid skin so it could damage the ship

@@sran9492 I know but that is not a problem because you're still not allowed to touch it. Actually I believe none of the paintings in the Rijksmuseum are enclosed with glass.

Some nice brushes and gentle compressed air would have gotten that done super fast and efficient.
@callumrichens7904

Compressed air will only blow dust and debris onto other surfaces of the ship or other artefacts in the museum. Vacuums must be used where air is filtered and the dust is emptied elsewhere

Question .... a story about a pirate. In ancient times, yachts became a symbol of life ... the question was whether the yachts were haunted ... for example, black pearl ships ...In the story of the pirates of the Carribean .... in the real world there is no such ghost ship ...
