great video. thank you. I've been cleaning some older rifles lately that have been unused for quite some time by the previous owner and have come to like the Jag more than the patch holder.. I've found it's much easier to push the junk out of the barrel, than to use the patch holder. the jag gets the majority of the junk with it, plus it's more uniform to the barrel, as opposed to a patch holder that only has the patch on the majority of 2 sides. .
@coady-wp3xf
@coady-wp3xf 4 жыл бұрын
You don't fold the patch corner to corner making a triangle. Flat on top. Push one corner through the fold the patch over the top ? Gets all of bore. I use that for field care and mostly just light oil patch. At home that's the soaker method. Then brush and jag.

...perfect, thank you! I've been using a bore snake with patches as couldn't decide between a patch holder or a jag. Also, I use a nylon bore brush with solvent for most cleans and occasionally use a phosphor bronze brush for a deeper bore clean maybe every 6 range visits. Rifle shoots well following this routine...

I realize this video is quite old but i got a lot out of it! I just started purchasing Mil-Surps and i felt like ,maybe the bolt had to be broke down? Its good to hear that if the bolt is good that it only needs a good surface scleaning. My local shop that sells and dose ,consignment sales, makes sure the guns are clean. But i have yet to clean a rifle ,other then an AR that semms a bit cifferent. I have enjoyed my firearms for years , but just started into the bolt action vaze of my addiction! LOL My wife never wants to hear about my last or next purchase! LOL I have taken her to the range and she did, enjoy her selg but its not ,something she wants to do a lot. I have been into firearms since i was a kid with my PopPop and uncles. Now im the one trying to pass on the hobby/culter onto the next two generations ,as i have three grandchildren now, and im the PopPop! LOL

I do this as well but given how hard the steel in gun barrels is compared to the tools we use to clean them I struggle to understand how pulling it back through could cause harm. I think the most logical explanation is you could be dragging crud back through the barrel whereas pushing all the way through ensures the stuff you just wiped out stays out.

I forgot to mention my Mil-Surps, I plan to collect an assorment of WWII, era firearms. I have so far a No4Mk1 by Savage back in the day or built in 1942,in Canada. Then i just purchase a Mosin Nagant built by Remington . Then i have a VZ24 Mauser captured from a consctript by my grandfather. One of my other family members ended up with the Nazi marked one! LOL Also have a Carcano carbine TS ,one of those without the huge bayonet on it. It was imported from Italy. I plan to buy a Japanese rifle and still looking? lol But also i must have an M1Garand that i can shoot before the end of my days!?! You see i dont mind i dont have the NAzi Marked Mauser as i want shooters, not wall hangers. I more want exact representations of what was used, during the war. They dont have to have any history and just need to be accurate and fun to shoot as well as be used for hunting if i need or choose to use it? I fell in love with ARs but its starting ot lose its luster i guess? They are still very fun to shoot and capable for many uses. But I'm really getting into the older firearms and lever actions ,more so these days! This video was great ,thanks!

It was built in Westfield Mass. for Talo Buyers Inc. and its got a Patent No on it. Its one of the rifles i have from my Grandfather and its never been fired. Wood stock and came with a Field and Stream scope. I have searched high and low and can not find out anything about it? Not even its possible value for that matter? I wont be around forever and my kids could do as they do with them all so it would , be helpful if i could catalog them with a value to them so they dont get taken ,if and when they try to sell them off? lol

G 96 spray lubricant is the best I have found. Spendy, but effective. You can spray on a rag and wipe the blued surfaces and a patch through the barrel will protect indefinitely. Dont forget to run a dry patch or two through the barrel before firing.

@michaelbowman7558
@michaelbowman7558 7 жыл бұрын
Joe Guzman, steel rods are risky. Too easy to scratch the rifling. Always use a coated rod or one made of softer metal than your barrel is made from. Coated rods are good, but be aware that the coating may pick up metallic fouling if you don't wipe it down before each pass through the barrel.

The rod didn't pick up rifling marks. The rod end follows the rifling and if the rod touches the inner edge of the muzzle or chamber end it will leave marks on the rod. In other words the rod needs to go in perfectly straight in order to avoid marks on the rod, which is damn near impossible. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say, it's easier to show.
