Was hoping you were going to show how to remove the fan cap exposing the fan rotor as my CPU fan makes a noise almost every time I cold-boot my PC (Have to put it into sleep mode and wake it to get the noise to stop). I have an Intel CPU+Fan like the one in your video but the difference is yours has 4 grips on the heatsink and mine has 2. Just wanted to find out which side of the fan that the rotor can be accessed so I can clean it out and put a stop to the noise.

people can use a small vaccum cleaner with the small pipe connected and a brush thats the safest way to clean a pc the brush should be a paint brush like he said or a static safe one the vaccum way is safer then the compressed air or a person can use a datavac with the noze connected and with the datavac can keep fans connected and still clean its a monster

I decided to reapply paste to my 5600X. I loosened the screws on the stock wraith cooler, twisted a little to try and break the seal of the existing paste, and pulled it off... along with the CPU still attached.

I've actually taken my fans off the heatsinks and washed the heatsink itself, not the fans because those have electric components in them, but heatsinks are washable all you do is make sure it dries properly before you put it back together again

is it necessary to apply the thermal paste after cleaning the processor?
@EasyPcRepairs7 жыл бұрын
Yes because the paste helps to keep the CPU cool. If it's not reapplied, the CPU may overheat.

I currently bought the two Arctic cleaning liquids along with Arctic Silver 5 for the CPU from eBay. I plan to also get a replacement heat sink fan because my current one is spinning slower than normal.

You might find the fan spinning faster after a clean. It doesn't always work but it's worth a try before buying a new one.

EasyPcRepairs Let's say I want to clean the whole heat sink, including the fan itself. How do I clean the fan? What cleaning product is safe to use? I hear from a friend on Skype that I could use rubbing alcohol to clean the heatsink fan cause it's non-conductive. Is that true, or is there another method to cleaning a fan & heatsink?
@EasyPcRepairs8 жыл бұрын
Once the fan is off, I found the best thing to use is an 'anti-static, lint free, micro-fibre cloth' which can be found on Amazon. No need for chemicals, you just need to remove the dust.
@CaptRicoSakara8 жыл бұрын
EasyPcRepairs A friend on Skype suggest I use rubbing alcohol for cleaning the fan, and then mineral oil to lube it up once I'm ready to reinstall it. Rubbing alcohol, he said, is non-conductive. I think.
@EasyPcRepairs8 жыл бұрын
It's fine to use rubbing alcohol as it will evaporate away after it's been used. It will clean the fan better than just using a cloth. So if you want to go that extra mile and use it, that's good. Personally, I don't use it for fans because a cloth will do the job very nicely.

Is it ok to clean up CPU fan with cold water instead of wd40?
@EasyPcRepairs7 жыл бұрын
That wouldn't be very good for the fan. Clean the fan with a dry cloth to remove the dust.
@Shadenium5 жыл бұрын
You should NEVER ever clean electronic components with WD40. It's designed for mechanical parts like cogs or sliding metal parts with no electronics around. WD40 has oily components that will accumulate dust at greatly increased rate. Water is fine as long as you're 100% sure you've dried it well afterwards. Distilled water is much safer option, you can even sumberge eceltronic components in it and then thoroughly dry them. But again, tap water is fine for cleaning HEATSINK.

Spreading the thermal paste will create lots of air bubbles (not a good conductor of heat). A pea-sized dot works much better.
@EasyPcRepairs5 жыл бұрын
Any air bubbles that are created from spreading the paste are removed when the heatsink is placed onto the CPU. If the paste is spread first, you know it's spread correctly.
@aigomorla4 жыл бұрын
Paintbrush can only be used on non electrical for dusting. It generates static so if you use it on electrical you risk a nasty chance of ESD (electrostatic discharge). Which is why most dusting brushes for PCs are usually plastic or some other synthetic fiber

Howcome my 6 year old CPU has no problems after totally neglecting the dust in it all this time?
@Shadenium5 жыл бұрын
Try to clean it and check the temperature difference. Because CPU fans are usually built with '6 years without cleaning for average consumer Joe or Jane' in mind.

I have a watercooler for my cpu how do i clean it?
@EasyPcRepairs4 жыл бұрын
Most water coolers will allow you to take off any fans attached to it. Take off the fans, blow air through the water cooler's radiator, clean the fans with a cloth (and a can of air too doesn't hurt), then put the fans back on the radiator as they were. Before taking the fans off, note their orientation. For example, if they're blowing towards the radiator, when you put them back on, make sure they will still be blowing towards the radiator.

My CPU is really dusty and loud, does anyone think that’s the reason why it’s being loud?
@EasyPcRepairs4 жыл бұрын
When a fan is dusty, it can't remove the heat as well, so it has to spin faster. So a dusty fan will nearly always be louder.
@jashton2894 жыл бұрын
EasyPcRepairs Right brill, I’ve ordered some compressed air and some delicate brushes to sort it out. Also bought some thermal paste, because it hasn’t been reapplied in the 4 years of having the PC😂

I was so relaxed -- until you spread the paste on the CPU which was totally unnecessary😪
@EasyPcRepairs3 жыл бұрын
It's better to spread the paste, instead of it being squashed and just hoping that it has spread well. That's why I spread the paste most of the time. It will give you guaranteed good results every time.
@DavidG2P3 жыл бұрын
@EasyPcRepairs yeah but you inevitably include air bubbles and possibly even dust particles doing it this way 💁♂️
@EasyPcRepairs3 жыл бұрын
Any air bubbles will be squashed out when the heatsink is pressed up against the CPU. There are no extra dust particles when spreading the paste. No matter which way this task is done, there will inevitably be some dust particles though.
@DavidG2P3 жыл бұрын
@@EasyPcRepairs Air bubbles can only be reduced in size but still remain (as seen when putting on screen protector glass on a smartphone). Spreading paste with whatever tool will inevitably introduce more particles than spreading it by lowering the CPU💁♂️
@EasyPcRepairs3 жыл бұрын
People have discussed this subject for years. And the discussion still goes on today. All I can do is tell you my experience. After pasting and repasting many many computers, trying out different methods and testing them, whichever method I used, it barely made any difference. Maybe 2°C at the most. The best method that I have found is to spread the paste (for cooling and CPU coverage). If someone wants to do the 'blob in the middle', cross, lines or 'smiley face' method, I'm not going to criticize them for that because it will make little to no difference on the performance, cooling or longevity of the CPU.
