I have a Taig lathe, similar to the Unimat. It's very often convenient that the lathe can be picked up and turned over or moved around! Strange rearrangements are possible too, like putting the tailstock behind the headstock, or removing the carriage for an odd drilling operation.

I got a big kick out of this one. I know better than to use compressed air on any machine. Won’t claim perfection at that. I have a good friend two doors away. Keeps a tidy well organized shop. Tools where they’re supposed to be. It is nice. He is retired now. A well versed machinist with some tool and die making experience. He knows how to get me out of most of my neophyte jams and he allows me the use of some of his tools of the trade in my shop. In exchange he is free to machine what ever he needs to in my shop. He just doesn’t mess with it much anymore. He is always on me about organizing and cleaning. He is right. I just don’t have the time I need to keep at it 100%. One thing I noticed him doing in his shop was using a leaf blower to push out the cotton wood leaves and the associated fuzz. He made quick work out of all of it. Everything appeared to be nice and clean and dusted off. While he doesn’t have machines in his shop. He does have pneumatic tools that are handy. Finish and framing nailers even some brad nailers. We broke a few of them out for a project not too long ago. Every single one of them packed with dust and debris from the leaf blower cleaning. Anything that had oil protecting it was caked with fine Oklahoma silt. While he went at tearing them down to clean I walked back to my shop and opened up my storage bin that had some of my air nailers in them that had been stored a while. All of them worked just fine.

@@ellieprice363 itty bitty speakers in modern boom boxes create excellent cross modulation scouring rasters, perfect for rearranging all that swarf back into a miniature replica of the original billet. Astounding conservation of form at work. The mind of humanity has so many wonderful abilities. Today (April-1) should always be considered a special day for such things.

...So.... Turn it over and shake your boogie? Nice Solution..... the 'gravity' of the situation can 'force' us to solve the problem? Larger lathes are going to need less gravity methinks....maybe attempts will involve more comedy?..... (much more) Newton would be proud...You are using an 'attractive' theory there!.... .....Using blasts of air blows my mind..... Friend used to have lots of printer problems regardless of the brand he bought.... He used to blow the dust off his printer to keep it clean (Thus the dust goes from where it's aesthetically damaging to places its physically damaging)....Blast it!

Some other ideas for doing or avoiding: 1. Train your wife to do it. 2. Buy a new one when the old one's dirty. 3. Do all your machining under water or in the bathtub. 4. Do all your maching on your buddies lathe. You are welcome to use any or all of these ideas.
