My handle was loose. I watched this video and learned 2 very important things. Those first bowed washerser had to face opposite direction. The last washer (spacer) was backwards too. As a result one side sorted flattened out. No problem, I was able to careful bend to correct angle and replace. Now my handle is no longer floppy loose. Thanks for the step by step video.

What goes in the lube port if I dont want to take it apart? Grease or oil?

You can actually see the main gear through that port so I would put grease.

I talked to Lew's and they told me that their drag washers are meant to be dry. I also noticed when you put all your drag washers back on the one washer with the notches was not back in its slots. Did you fix that before your final assembly?

Yes, I scooted it into place. I kind of skip way ahead at that part of the video. I had some technical issues that I edited out. Funny that Lew's says that, and I don't doubt it, but I have three of those MBs, and the first time taking them apart, they definitely are greased. Lew's has great customer service, BTW.

They're great with customer service. Now, when you say that they do come greased, do you mean just the paper like drag washers, or the just the metal ones, or both? Were they lightly greased or a good dose of grease? I know, when i lightly greased all of mine i could feel my drag sticking when just adjusting my drag. I greased them just like Tacklejunkie81 did too. I cleaned the grease off my paper like drag washers and it seems to be better now, but i haven't taken them out on the water yet due to i live in Michigan and it's freak'in cold. We'll see. lol

Thanks for the video. I just did this since its winter and cant fish so decided to clean things up. Once I put it all back together though, my button wont close upon retrieve. Any idea what I did wrong?

You may have reinstalled the white plasctic piece (that the springs sit on) backwards. Seems I did this once or twice.

@@RhinoVenturesOutdoors Thanks for the reply, I figured it out after a couple hours of messing around taking it apart and back together again. I had put the spiky washer that the clutch mechanism engages on backwards so it wasnt locking into place upon engaging the clutch.

Could you spray the internals down with wd40 and let it sit then clean it out? Would it hurt anything?

I don't think it would hurt anything. I'd then wipe it out and grease the gears, and oil the bearings like normal.

Are the drag washers in these reels carbon or fiber?

I think they are carbon. Lew's doesn't make this reel any longer, was replaced by the Tournament MP.

Thanks! I've enjoyed using them, but in all honesty don't have anything to compare to. I just got back into bass fishing a few years ago after being away from it for 25 years or so while I was in the Navy. If/when they start breaking, I'll probably branch out and try Shimano and Abu.

My reel doesn't have the lever you pull to remove the side plate.
