I Have two of these. I love them skipping is easy and they pitch and flip nicely. Their is plenty of line on the reel I use a left hand reel since I’m right handed this way I can be ready instantly as I pitch or skip it into an area. I have found this to be a great way to work. Good video!

I also use lefty reels because right is my predominant hand. I don't want any time switching no matter if I'm casting a mile or pitching 5 ft. Honestly I think it's catching on more and more because it use to be hard to find lefty reels now you can get one anywhere I mean anywhere I just bought a 15 dollar reel online and I actually like it. Thought I'd hate it bought it just to see what it could handle. It's really loose though. You have to dial it in more than a higher priced reel.

Thank you Steve. Never had a bait caster. I'm shopping and I want 3 rods. I'll start with a MH/F with a Curado 70K. But I want that Lew's reel for skipping. I think that when throwing a fluke or caffeine shad a skipping cast is attractive before the retrieve especially in certain conditions.

Interesting. The rod I chose was the same specs as Andy Montgomery's when he was with Diawa, which is a Heavey Fast. Fortunately, I have several MH, Fast rod's, so I hope that suffices. But, so far I'm having the same problems with this reel as any other reel I've tried using for skipping. Apparently, I'm doing something fundamentally wrong....because I'm still getting backlashes. I just don't know what it is. I was hoping there was something on YT about how to set the breaks, given this particular reel has specific settings for skipping. Great video....this was helpful, none-the-less.
@SteveRogersOutdoors7 ай бұрын
Here is one I have that goes over some brake settings, at least how I set it up. It is not this reel though, but a similar concept. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKmchWl8jsd8has

@@SteveRogersOutdoors Thanks Steve. I'll check it out. I think at the end of the day, it's going to come down to just putting the time in. The other issue is that most of my practice isn't from the deck of my boat right now, it's from the edge of my pool, which can make a big difference, as well. I do wonder if I'm using the right rod setup. But, at the end of the day, I find that the guys that can skip competently, can do it with just about any setup. I'm 5'11, and using a 7'2" Heavy Fast, because I couldn't find one shorter. I'll try a Medium Heavey/fast at some point as well. But, I digress.... Like I said... I think getting the reps in is as important as anything else at my level. But, I will absolutely check out those settings. This video already gave me a couple good tips. Thanks for the reply! I need all the help I can get!

I really want to try one of these reels. My issue is I don't fish enough waters that need skipping is needed, so it's hard to justify it. We don't have a lot of docks on our lakes here, so I only need to skip for the occasional random dock and overhang. Really sweet looking reel though!
@SteveRogersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
You'll just have to take a trip to Lake of the Ozarks that has about 5 billion docks. Lol.
@toddlester80632 жыл бұрын
@@SteveRogersOutdoors It's close enough I might someday! I live in NE OK. Grand Lake here has a ton of docks, but most of our other lakes not so much. The Core of Engineers owns the land around the lakes and has weird setback rules in place on most lakes.

It's not like skipping is all you can do with it- it's a great pitching and flipping reel. Really, anything where you're making short casts- line capacity is the only real difference after all. I'd buy one for pitching and flipping and then when you need to skip- you've got that covered too. But hey, I'm a tackle/gear junkie so- I'm probably not the best person to ask. I just spent 30 bucks on one crank bait- and it's not hand made. It's hard to find though- the Imakatsu Waddle Bats- and it works like nothing else.
@stoneysdead6892 жыл бұрын
Really cool set up Steve- I need a good skipping setup- reel, rod and all. I already have a medium heavy extra fast but I never thought about making it my skipping setup- I was leaning towards it being an open water/light cover frog rod but- this has me thinking. Paired with something like this or the little Curado 70- it would make a great skipping combo I bet. Or is the smaller Curado the 150? One of them was made for lighter baits or skipping, pitching, etc.
@SteveRogersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It definitely would. The small reel size is so comfortable to fish with. Let me know what you end up going with and how you like it.

Steve, I enjoy these “skipping” videos. I have been thinking about buying that model of Lews to try. I currently use the Diawa Tatula SV reels and they are also phenomenal for skipping and same price point. The main difference on the Diawa, you don’t touch the spool tension. You want it loose and just dial the braking. Do you like the left handed reel for pitching and flipping? Been thinking about going with that also since I almost always pitch right handed.
@SteveRogersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
This is the first left-handed model I have used in awhile. So far so good. I figured I would give it a go.
