This really works. Last week, our stone was a complete mess, just like in the video, I turned the oven on full. As I lead a pretty boring life and simple things amuse me, I then sat down and watched the 30-minute process. You can actually watch the marks turn to smoke and lift off! 😮 Sad, I know 😊

Hi Tom, I’m writing to you from Louisiana, USA. When I asked KZbin for the easiest way to clean a Pizza stone. Your video was the 1st 1 that came up.Even though I don’t own a Omni Pizza Oven I went ahead & watched the whole video, because I know it will help you. Congrants on your 10K subscriber’s even though you now have over 13.7K including me. I do have a question My pizza stone is just a normal one that goes into my kitchen oven. Well this process work for it too? Thanks have a great weekend😊

Thanks so much for the comment and for the subscribe! It’s difficult to say for sure as it’s the intense heat of the pizza oven that helps turn all the baked on food to ash to dust away and clean your stone, but your kitchen oven may not get that hot. Give it a try on the hottest setting for 40 mins and if that doesn’t work maybe try the electric grill if your oven has one? Hope this helps

looks like a good result. keep in mind that a bronze (softer) brush would probably be better to prevent damage to the stone. the ooni brush ($29) has stainless bristles. while i like the stone itself, i believe that it is NOT thick enough. it's the same thickness as on my bertello grande oven. the stone is either too hot or too cool. i am considering an italian biscotto stone for more even cooking, but the dang things are so expensive! thanks for your videos!

I think you are going overboard on cleaning. A well used and seasoned stone will have discoloration, doesn't mean it is dirty. I own a ooni 12 that gets used ever week. I use a comercial grade stainless steel spacula upside down to scrape off any loss toppings then blow out with cordless mini blower.
@TomVoyageuk

I guess you're right, but realistically every time you heat a stone up to 450/500c, its going to be clean, as no bacteria can survive that. I wanted to make this video as i get asked the question a lot and i myself like to keep the stone looking nice 😁

I’ve heard of turning the pizza stone over and the bottom will “clean” itself over cooks but at least in my experience, it doesn’t clean. The bottom is still not clean, it still has the black spots or sauce marks and it doesn’t clean. Maybe they’re part of the stone but I’ve never found that tip to be true. As side from that, nice video.
@TomVoyageuk
@TomVoyageuk 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate for the comment! It maybe depends on what is burned on the stone? oil i guess might permeate the stone and be impossible to remove but I'm not sure. As long as old food bits are removed it won't affect the cooking of the pizza 😃

Just a question about the Ooni brush, which I’ve just had delivered. On the packaging it says use in a no fire cold oven, but you did it in a hot fired oven. Is this still okay? I’ve heard that with it being hot some of the metal bristles can detach and go into the stone, potentially then getting picked up by your fresh dough and being eaten. Would you only recommend doing this at the end of cooks and not in between pizzas? Cheers. On a side note your videos have helped me out so much during my first few cooks and what accessories to get
@TomVoyageuk
@TomVoyageuk 7 ай бұрын
To be honest I use my brush between pizzas, whilst the oven is on too, it’s black, charred missing one of the bolts at the end but still works fine. Probably due a replacement soon! I’ve never had an issue with missing bristles but feel a brush is necessary to remove burnt flour from the stone. Ooni probably have to put this on the packet for H&S reasons

Ouch! Thats a stinker, i would definitely cook on the other side for a fair few times until all the moisture has gone. Be careful though, because if your stone is at all damp, it will crack when heating up too quickly. I would leave it on low heat for 1 hour, to really dry the stone steadily, then go with a full temp cook.

@@TomVoyageuk, yep, and there are nasties in the detergent that will get into your pizza, resulting in health and flavor concerns. the use and care instrux are quite clear about NOT using soapy water. anyone who has made this mistake (a biggie in my book!) should probably replace their stones. a pizza stone's surface is no different than a BBQ grate in terms of "seasoning." let the colors season in over time and simply scrape and brush the crud off when needed.
