Ryan Cleckner had a good video about this as well. The big thing that I incorporated from it is to keep wet patches in a small jar. When using solvent on the brush, pour it over the patches as you add more. Super easy an much less mess

Brass and bronze is much softer than barrel steel and have been demonstrated to not harm the barrel in any way. Nylon brushes will not clean as well.

I run a Krieger Barrel in my target rifle and follow John Krieger's cleaning method for his barrels during my shooting season. (he doesn't clean them lol). I do however clean and oil at then end of the season because the rifle is going to be stored for a few months.

Fouling is good for tight groups. It is better to clean the barrel only after the groups fall apart. After cleaning the first 20 rounds can be all over tour target.

That is only true when your barrel is out of spec. Clean and cold bore is when a barrel is most accurate.

@markfung56542 жыл бұрын
I do the same. I clean all my brushes etc. With methylated spirits. I feel that I want to start my next clean with clean brushes. This way I know if my barrel is dirty. And not my brushes are dirty.

1. That's one sexy rifle 2. Any nylon brushes you recommend? I'm trying to find a good set for all my guns 3. How often do you copper clean on the 6.5 vs other calibers, like 22? I know a lot of guys who don't clean & will burn out barrels first. They say it keeps the gun more/true accurate but does reduce longevity/increased risk depending on the action

Serious question. I'm new to guns and just bought a factory new Savage Arms .270 bolt action rifle, should I field strip and clean the rifle before I shoot if or would a dry nylon bore brush or boresnake down the barrel to clear out any dust or small metal burrs be enough?
@Stev7775 жыл бұрын

@nilescoyote48295 жыл бұрын
I clean my 6.5 bore any time it has been exposed to moisture or 4-5 hundred rounds. My 6mm bores I'll send a couple hoppies #9 coated patches down after each match then drive home (3-5 hour trip) and then patch it till dry. I'm using coated Dtac's in that bore and I don't see much if any copper with a borecam.

What is your opinion on the perspective that barrels have a sweet spot regarding fouling where the groups tighten up lets say 40-120rds or so. Many avid shooters and ex-military snipers have said this and I am curious on your thoughts.

@IMPACT SHOOTING how would you advise someone to fix a flawed crown on a precision rifle??
@proyectomer4 жыл бұрын
Hi Piet, I am from Argentina, and have a question about something you mentioned in this video. You said that you clean your rifle always after you finished your shooting, in order to find your barrel in the same way you left it last time you use it, and you zero your rifle for that first shot. Usually the first shot from a clean cold bore barrel has slower speed because of lack of copper and powder fouling, and the next shots increase speed until the barrel is consistent; Suppose that you go for hunting, do you go with your gun to make a fisrt CCB shot, or you take some shotsbefore the hunting in order to keep your muzzle velocity and groups consistent? If I am asking something wrong, feel free to correct me, I am knew in this subject, and I don´t undestand it properly yet. Thanks in advance

The Rimfire guides i have looked at are all custom and shaped the same as the bolt leaving the magazine area exposed to the cleaning solvents and oils. What style guide do you use for your rimfire rifles? I have found a bolt style guide from Lowey Products for my rifle.

Awesome video thanks! Appreciate your content! One question, does copper fouling have a part to play with accuracy? Like you I’ve herd a lot of pros don’t even clean there barrels but recently found with a clean bore with my howa 1500 6.5 creed it shoots .5 moa groups at 100 couldn’t be happier but after about 50 rounds i checked my zero and the groups start opening up? So confused to what’s happening. Rifles only had 200 rounds through it since new.
@zanderswart68282 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan voges. Have you ever resolved the matter why your group started opening after 200 shots. Was it copper fouling ?

@Dirk Coetzee Thank you, Im trying to find out what company he uses to buy the Bore Guide and Cleaning Rod. I ordered the Rod for my Ruger .300 Win Mag from Tipton. Its the Delux one. They discontinued the brand, and you have to go through Brownells. They also have a Tech Department, which offers different advice than just from one source. Next, I ordered the Bore Guide from a company called Bore Tech, they are very good, but throw a lot of knowledge at you that you cant tell if they are as good as they say or just trying to sell you a product. They are for sure more expensive, I havent bought any of the solvents, but I was told by the Brownells tech department to try Bore Techs copper remover for the Barrel. I want to us hoppes 9 gun oil for the Bolt. One of my last and hopefully last problems is the length of the rod, this means the barrel of the Ruger is 26 inches, and than you are looking at a chamber that is 14 inches. So that is 40, but you want a inch or two for the bore guide, I went with the 50 inch. Hopefully that was too long
