Great, well done video. As a new owner of a .38 special, I wanted to make sure I hit all of the needed areas of the gun. Thanks for the help!

Burn marks on the face of the cyclinder can be lightly rubbed and cleaned with CLP and 0000 wool to remove them. ☯️🎩♠️🏁

This has been one of the best videos that I seen on cleaning a revolver in great detail. Some of the areas that are hard to get is a good point to point out as to why is critical to clean.

I was kinda "iffy" on the finish I wanted on my Taurus 856 - spurless hammer .38 mainly because it looked like it was kinda cheap and "parkerized". It's now been carried - a lot for the past yr, and it looks 95 - 98% all there. I did "Ceramic coat" the revolver with an auto type finish. Very happy with this little revolver, so much so I put the Viridian laser on it for night carry. Good presentation skills concise and de-void of time wasting stories or personal philosophy. Thumbs up bro.

On the forcing cone I've used pipe cleaners to get in the hard spots like at the top of forcing cone! worked great, which I use Ballistol and I would spray it on and let it set for about 5 min!
@lens78593 жыл бұрын
and maybe try a jag, gives you 360 degrees of contact in the chambers and barrel with your patches, cleans much easier and more thorough

i have used several products to remove burn marks on by stainless revolvers: Nevr Dull, Mothers Mag Polish and Colonel Brassy all with good effect. They all clean the cylinder and forcing cone very well, A tooth brush seems to work the best for me. I recommend you do this step before brushing and patching the barrel and cylinders. They look like new after the cleaning.
@edbigtruck2 жыл бұрын
A Brass brush works great and above the for using cone try using a razor blade to remove lead build up. I’ve been doing that for 35 years. Blued guns use a soft bristle brush.

Just pull the cylinder off...much easier to clean when it's removed and disassembled. Simply turn the ejector rod COUNTER clockwise to unscrew the pull the "wheel" off. May need to pry slightly with a plastic or small wood dowel so you can disassemble the star and the rotating components which really collect a LOT of powder residue. The MOST important thing to remember on ANY revolver is that it takes only a COUPLE drops of oil on a patch to lube the ENTIRE pistol...including if you pull the plate and clean the inner trigger works. You should NEVER EVER see any oil present. CLP is garbage. Do you shower with your lotion? NO....clean with solvent, lube with oil. Patch the barrel with oil and two dry patches...done. I have a number of older S&W revolvers and have owned them for 40+ years...my Mod 19 has roughly 250k rounds through it( using Bullseye...a dirty powder) for target loads and they still shoot/look almost like new. No excuses and no shortcuts if you've got a firearm you intend to keep and pass down. Oh...and don't be afraid of pulling the plate off to clean inside. There are only about 10 pieces to keep track of and it's NOT that difficult. S&W's and Taurus are almost identical...Colts/Ruger etc...are different but also not difficult. Do it right...

I like Ballistol. Cleans and lubricates. A fine product.

It might not seem a bore snake would be a must have, but, the forcing cone is the same if it's 2" barrel or 6". You got a stainless steel piece...a lead cloth is your friend. No worries about being aggressive and ruining the blueing. You won't have any burn rings on the front of the cylinder either...it really doesn't matter but stainless looks better without rings.

Warning ⚠️ if you own a revolver with a titanium cylinder use a nylon brush on the cylinder. And do not use any harsh solvent on the cylinder as you can remove the coating that protects the titanium cylinder then the cylinder will wear out fast..

I'm surprised that you didn't take out the screw that holds the crane in, which holds the cylinder and ejector rod. I've taken the entire cylinder off my Smith and Wesson model 19 because the crane area seems to get a lot of carbon buildup too.
@GearKnowHow7 жыл бұрын
thefilmguy I was considering doing that but I wanted to do a cleaning that didn't require tools, hence why I didn't take the grip off either. I would remove that screw every few cleanings when I wanted to do a deep clean. Thanks for the suggestion!

You are pretty knowledgeable but you need a reading lesson if you want something (such as a rabbit) to move it hops and you say it that way. Hops. However when you have two P's with an "E" behind it then becomes Hop pees with a long E sound and is pronounced that way so quit hopping and get to Hop peing! Hearing it mispronounced is like fingernails on a blackboard! Puts my teeth on edge. End of lecture. Gabby
