Tried boiled linseed oil instead of Dunlop 65 this time on my prs hollowbody spruce with rosewood fretboard. I have to say I was much more pleased with the results of linseed. Tried it after seeing a vid where prs uses it in their factory as the final step in a build. Bought my 20 year old guitar used. Couple drops of dawn in a cup of warm water got 20 years of the last guys oil out 😂 But it also seemed to remove the good oil. After buffing with 0000 grade steel wool my frets are shiny and the bird inlays came back to life, What I thought was 20 years of fretboard wear turned out to just a bunch of grime. The linseed sealed it right back up and it’s like a brand new guitar! Linseed seemed to seal much more than lemon oil. The guitar now plays like microwaved butter….smooth and it effected the tone much more than anticipated. What sounded dull before is now full of life. Can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner.

Will the Dunlop cleaner bleach the wood, or make it bright looking, if over used? Cause whenever I use it, it makes the cloth that im using black, no matter how many times I go over it. Like three times and the cloth is still black. Im starting to get a little worried that it'll damage the woods natural dark colour, given that my cloth keeps getting black after two or three times of using it in a row.

You can use it after Dunlop 01 and then finish cleaning with Lemon Oil (65). However that's usefull if your fretboard is really dirty. Some people don't bother and just use 65 for cleaning and conditioning but it's better using Dunlop 01 cuz it removes more unnecessary durt but it dries your fretboard so you should apply either Dunlop 02 or Lemon oil after it. So answering your question : Lemon Oil or Dunlop 02 Conditioner are necessary after Dunlop 01 Clean and Prep.
@kylehca2 жыл бұрын
@@300septims6 I just use the Dunlop lemon oil to clean then the Dunlop deep fretboard conditioner and apply the conditioner 2-3 times letting it soak in before wiping off

It's recommended to clean at least twice a year to get rid of all the dirt. But you can use just the lemon oil as well!
@staceycoultas50146 жыл бұрын
Not really. I hadn't cleaned my guitar in... let's just say an embarrassly long time cause it's a dirt cheap first guitar. Wiped down with a cloth (not played regularly. So it's mostly dust), cleaned the frets, soaked the fretboard in lemon oil and allowed for it to absorb. Then wiped down. Although next time I'll be using the method in the video.

What is the lemon oil for? Can I just use the 01 product only?
@emmanuelmarinliera47386 жыл бұрын
Daniel Kim the 01 is just for cleaning the fretboard from dirt, sweat and all the bad stuff, and the lemon oil is to nourish the wood if it's too dry and also acts like a protective layer

Is it ok to skip the 01 and use 02 instead?
@kyluu97314 жыл бұрын
It's ok to skip the 01 but DO NOT just use the 01. If you don't apply the 02 or Lemon oil after the 01 it's not great for the guitar because the cleaner only will dry out the fretboard, that's why they made conditioner. I know it's been 1 year but I hope this help you.

I recently heard you can use almond oil to clean/condition the fretboard. Can a pro confirm or deny?

I cannot confirm nor deny this
@cookcrazy3 жыл бұрын
I would not - instead use Mineral Oil (plain unscented from Walmart or the local chemist/drugstore is perfect) - it's cheap, and it is, in reality, the base for all these fretboard oils.

This is a myth. What is not recommended is to cut the strings directly, like some people do. But if you do like him, there's nothing to be worried about.
