@@mblake0420 I watch this man for his gun knowledge, not his opinions. A lot of other channels will shoot guns and talk 2A but I can’t binge their videos and come away conscious of how much more I know about firearms maintenance and operation. His decades of experience come with a certain mindset and opinions, but it’s good to know where someone is coming from as they share what they’ve learned.

Though I respect and love the action of gun channels like Paul Harrel and Hickok45, your videos are the "go-to" for detailed no nonsense information. As someone whose father was never into firearms, I didn't have that fatherly figure for guidance in guns and gun maintenance (though I love him for everything else haha). You fill that void perfectly however. Your videos are superb and remind me of learning something new with dad Sunday mornings when I was a kid.

Its like you asked the grampa you never had how to clean a shotgun. This is the highest use of KZbin. Such good content. Common sense and old school wisdom. I use mineral spirits and ordinary motor oil on shotguns and it works great. No need to purchase anything that's not already in the garage.

Just wanted to say thank you very much for all of the effort you put into these videos. I also appreciate that you spend even more time to answer the questions and concerns of your viewers with knowledgeable and thorough responses. This country needs more old time voices of reason like yourself to push back against the new age tide of ignorance we are currently experiencing. Not just in the hunting/shooting world but America as a whole. Keep up the excellent work! From a fellow new englander

Thanks for the tip on leaving the choke in to protect the thread. Really thorough well thought out videos, other people try to do "quick" five or ten minute demonstrations, and that's fair enough, you take the time to do it right. The maxus also has a magazine unloading feature that allows the removal of shells from the magazine without running them through the action, not sure if other shotguns have it. Would watch the handloading shells video, but it's just not permitted in my part of the world. A happy and healthy new year to you and yours. John Ireland

👍👌Hoppes 9, mineral spirits, mineral oil & flannel from the fabric store. Great stuff! 👍I’ve always used the mineral spirits & had great results. One thing that was a must for me in my basement shop was to pipe compressed air in from my garage air compressor. Also placed moisture filters in-line- Or if one doesn’t mind the noise, (I’m not one for noise) one can always put a small pan cake style compressor there as well. Blow out any excessive ness of sorts. Works great for me. Thx for the good video as I always enjoy them along w/ the stories that you tell👍 So much OVER oiling, good point as you’re not oiling a machine like an engine revving at 5k RPM’s! Lol! Good stuff here! 👍

Thx a million for sharing your infinite wisdom GunBlue. There’s a ton of firearms content out there, but for practical knowledge that the average shooter can apply, this is the best. Just picked up a quart of the green odorless mineral spirits from Home Depot and some mineral oil from the grocery store for a grand total of $12 that will probably last me a lifetime. In particular the odorless mineral spirits as an alternative to Hoppe’s bore solvent is priceless. I know you love the smell of Hoppe’s and the fond memories you associate with it, but me… not so much lol. I had a bottle of Hoppe’s sitting around that my dad had bought decades ago. I filled a 1oz plastic bottle and put it in my portable gun cleaning kit, but the next time I opened it up the smell hit me like a brick to the face. Now I switched to the green Klean Strip and am better off for it. Cheaper, cleaner, safer thanks to you.

I saw in another video about how to clean an AR-15 where the gunsmith put a couple of drops of mineral oil on an old school shaving cream brush (he specifically said, to only use a shaving cream brush) and he lightly oiled the whole rifle with it. It worked really well. I think it would be the perfect way to oil your bolt and anywhere else it's hard to get the towel into. I use a similar method to your flannel cloth but I use a lightly oiled microfiber towel, but when I get the opportunity, I will probably get a shaving cream brush. still enjoying your videos.

I watch GunBlue490 for his nuggets of wisdom, like this: @39:10. This man teaches a masterclass in firearms every time he speaks! I also love his vocabulary and expressions ("putting this transmission into reverse"). For what it's worth, I'd like to share my own little tidbit with everyone. When washing towels, rags, washcloths, floor mopping pads, etc. (basically, anything that's meant to be absorbent), DO NOT add any fabric softeners to the washing machine. Fabric softeners coat the fibers, making them LESS absorbent. BTW, same goes for gym/workout clothes and socks. Skip the fabric softeners!
