I'm taking mine apart to see if I can simply add a gas shut off valve. I don't know why these manufacturers don't have them since they cost just a few cents. As an old mechanic I know the best thing you can do is shut the gas off and let the machine empty the carburetor after every use, and especially before storage. Thanks for your video it's very helpful for individuals who've never done this. This is a very typical carburetor on a small engine, and your video would be useful for almost any snowmobile carburetor. You do good work.

Nice job. What type of gasket or o-ring on the bowl nut, mine was pretty much gone, the one that came in the kit didnt seem like the right one. How tight when installing bowl nut? Thanks
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I cannot find parts readily available for the China carburetors and if your kit did not come with the correct one, you will have to make do with what you have or try to do some research online. Make sure the nut is tight and just check for leaks, and may have to snug it little more. I do not know a torque spec. Just make sure it’s very snug and then you can tighten a little after that if needed. I’m sure it was pretty tight when you took it off so you can go by that.

I have an issue with the primer bulb not operating after carb disassembly. I cleaned both the main jet and nozzle, no obstructions. Preety easy . The primer bulb now doesn't pump fuel up through the main jet. I got it from a guy that says it was in fact working prior to me doing the carb. When I pump the primer bulbi it seems to blow air through the bowl gasket area. Any ideas??? Thank you... Pete. Could it be a worn bowl gasket issue???
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 11 ай бұрын
Sounds like the primer bulb is working. If you have air coming out around the bowl gasket, You ether don’t have the gasket lined up correctly on the bowl, the bowl nut is loose or your bowl may be out of shape/bent and is loose even though the nut is tight. Basically the bowl gasket to the carburetor is not sealing properly. Strange though, if you had air leaking around the bowl gasket, you would most likely have fuel leaking also.
@petepeabody8905
@petepeabody8905 11 ай бұрын
You are correct there is gas leaking out only when I pump the primer bulb. The machine starts easily and runs well, although I believe the high idle is not nearly enough. I am planning on taking it back apart to put the spring on the governor to the second hole, it is in the lower of the 3 holes. I never got that far. I also got a new gasket for the bowl. A TECUMSEH 631028A. It has a better shoulder than the round original one. Thank you for you input

Great video. Thanks. Any thoughts on what would make the carb leak fuel into the cylinder. Checked my oil and it was way full, super thin and smelled like fuel. Drained way more than the 600ml of oil that should be in it. Much appreciated.
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines Жыл бұрын
Yes, the reason why this happen is, the needle valve and seat inside the carburetor failed. Most likely due to a piece of dirt caught between or fuel that has gone bad. When this happens, there is a gap created between the needle and seat allowing fuel to pass threw the carburetor and into the engine or onto the floor. You can look at both pieces to see if you can clean and re-install. If it doesn't look good then just replace the carburetor. Make sure you change the engine oil to get all gas out or the machine will smoke badly and may wear out the engine quickly. The way top avoid this in the future is stay away from pump gas at the gas stations. Try using Aspen fuel. Read up on it. I have been replacing all snow thrower gas and going to Aspen for the last few years and now the carburetor issues are going away. Read about it before you try it. Here is a link for information. I am not sponsored, its just a really good product. www.aspenfuels.us/products/all/aspen-4/

I get gas leaking every time I prime it. I had taken the bowl off and shot brake cleaner down the jet. The gasket was loose and didn’t want to stay in its spot. Now the blower will not run without the primer being pressed constantly. Should I take the carb off and clean it or did I ruin it?

Is there an other filter on the gasoline inlet 90’
@JohnsonsSmallEngines
@JohnsonsSmallEngines 2 жыл бұрын
I do believe on some carburetors, if you take the 90 inlet out of the carburetor there is a screen inside the carburetor. I do not take the 90 elbows out but just do blow compressed air from the needle valve inlet side and threw the 90 fuel inlet elbow and normally have never had a issue with the screen.

great instruction! thank you! this may not be rocket science, but man is it so much easier when you know what you're getting into before you start as opposed to troubleshooting on as you go:) ALSO, according to kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpOXmZhoe5mNe9k (thank's to him all the way to the moon!) there is a MESH FILTER behind the gas feed fitting! I suppose if you use ultrasonic cleaner, it will help a bit BUT if you get fuelling issues on freshly cleaned carb and it feels like a clogged filter - thats coz it IS. I almost went crazy trying to figure it out until I came across that vid.
