I use an old soft toothbrush & 220 grit sandpaper to clean off the residue using the back and forth motion then ill use a bit of carb cleaner, don’t forget to re-gap the plugs!

Remember to also check for / remove carbon deposits between the ceramic and metal body that builds up in the cavity. Carefully use a wire strand thin enough to insert. Often just cleaning alone will not be enough and the plug fouls again in a short period of time. Fouled plugs is your engine barometer and tells a story so check out why it’s doing that.

Yeah with the new TBI Bikes I put the map Green which ran Rich (I didn’t know it at the time) so I accidentally fouled the plug. At the time being I only had an hour of riding time and battery is okay. Is there anything else wrong?

If you have a electric wire brush it's much faster and if the top of it were the coil wire hooks to it is rusted, put the wire brush on it

i still have a can of MAF cleaner from when i did a tune up, will it work the same as carb cleaner?

As the other respondent mentioned, MAF sensor cleaner is just too weak to be effective. Those products are made to be gentle cleansers for expensive platinum wires and sensitive plastics. Carb cleaner or brake cleaner are much better bets.

Lots of reasons, plug wires could be going to wrong plug, bad c.o.p. , timing, idle sensor, go to autozone and ask for obd2 scan

Been using a stainless hand brush or stainless wire wheel on bench grinder for over 40 yrs on thousands of spark plugs. Recheck gap & good to go.

Wouldnt do that on a platinum or iridium plug especially one with fine or 0.4mm tips, it will be could bye to tip and to your expensive precious metals and thus your sparks. But if you have a 1960's plug, this should be fine.

Been using vinegar to clean my small engine plugs for quite some time with good results. I just have a small jar with enough vinegar in it to cover the plug and leave it in for a couple of days; they come out nice and clean!

I use water and rag get tip clean that all that matters. Tooth brush get in there better. Most likely he has a fuel filter problem.like it junck lawnmower with out one.

No vinegar is not a plug cleaner. That was soot from poorly burned fuel. Fix the problem not the symptom

Vinegar is also mixed with water which you DO NOT want in an engine

Just posting this in case others read it in the future: DO NOT use vinegar. Any copper plug is nickel plated, and vinegar dissolves nickel and corrodes copper as well. If you do use vinegar, just wet a *soft* bristle brush with it and gently scrub, then quickly rinse it with baking soda and water and heat-dry until there is zero moisture possibly in it. Best household solutions would be concentrated alcohol, carb cleaner, or electronics cleaner. Gumout fuel system cleaner, Techron fuel system cleaner, or Seafoam would be best, which can be found at Walmart and auto stores. Any of the above should be used with, at most, a brass brush or very fine steel wool or 220+ sandpaper. This will do a safer and more effective job than vinegar.

I was thinking the same thing and if you do use a wire brush you want to use an extremely soft bristle one so you do not damage the rod in the center. Although I found a little engine degreaser and a toothbrush will clean the spark plug right up! Remember it's only carbon you can also allow the end of the spark plug to sit in gasoline. And do the same with a toothbrush. But I found a little engine degreaser and a toothbrush is much faster and actually does a better job than the gasoline.

Most of the time yes, but I have to use $15-$20 plugs with my tune, and that adds up with multiple cylinders. I wouldn’t use a wire brush and chew it up, but folks here in the comments have some better sounding alternatives

if you live in Venezuela you definetly have to clean your spark and recicled them, the only thing cheap here is the fuel, yo can run all year with less than 5$........... yes FIVE DOLLARS for ONE YEAR!!! crazy isn´t it?
