That's good, vinegar will work too, hotter the better and at least over night. It's most important to get the carbon off the inside insulator. Carbon is conductive and fouls the plug. After soaking, brush the insulator with comet and a tooth brush to clean off the carbon. Rinse with hot water, and repeat comet scrubbing until center insulator looks as white as possible, light tan color is okay, black color is bad.

I have been watching videos on how to clean spark plugs, showing how to clean the spark plugs. None so far show the spark plugs cleaned working in equipment working after cleaning, WHY? I am a woman, having difficulty starting pressure washer, might be spark plug , but it looks clean. new to fixing tools just learning.@@PhillipsVision

Ive always hit them with a torch for about 30 seconds to a minute best way to see if the core and the insolator has separated gas gets trapped between them and burns off. Works better at getting all the carbon built up on the ceramic and down in the plug than just a wire brush and soaking them

What is the proper way to remove oil from the spark plug well? My valve gasket was broken and some oil accumulated in the wells. In one film they said you can't remove those spark plugs since the oil will go somewhere where it is not supposed to be.
@Curi0u50ne

get some clean rags, an a long thin screwdriver, fold the rag a few times over so your not gettin any bits of cloth from the edge stuck int here as well try get it out... ive had both water an oil in there bro you just do what you can do while stress veins are pumping... keep in mind the more thorough you are, the less chances you have of anything falling into the cylinders. good luck

@@brendanj1124 Thank you, I pumped out some and wiped out the rest as you recommended. Someone wrote me that if some oil gets there not that big deal, since it will be burned, and you 'll just see some smoke initially, then it will disappears. But I wiped out everything to be on the safe side. Everything works just fine. Thank you again.

Active ingredient in Coca Cola is phosphoric acid. Any mild acid solution would probably work. Vinegar is acetic acid, for example. Salt water is notorious as a corrosive agent, hence adding salt to the mixture. At a microscopic level the salt probably causes some surface pitting, but at that scale it likely doesn't really matter. Anyway, I have some spark plugs to clean so I'll take what I learned here and try to apply it with what I have on hand. Thanks Andy!
