Another great and effective product for cleaning oily and carboned-up engine parts is professional HVAC outdoor coil cleaner.Some name brands are "Nu-Brite" and "Foam-N-Clean",with several store brand type knockoffs as well.These are concentrated alkaline products that react with the aluminum fins on the outdoor coils by foaming up and lifting off any dirt or corrosion,but they also work very well for soaking freshly disassembled nasty parts from a junk motor,for example,or any other metal part.I would not use it on that plastic intake,and it is very caustic and corrosive,so rubber gloves and caution are mandatory,as is heavy rinsing with the garden hose,but the stuff works great!Just FYI.Also, your vids were very informative during a recent rebuild of the 4.7 in my 2000 Grand Cherokee.Keep'em coming!

One quick note: Purple Power is corrosive. (Labeled on the back of bottle) You need to take off anything metal on the manifold. Such as that 1 bolt still in there. Did this video a year ago, that bolt is most likely completely rusted now and the others look good as new.
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 3 жыл бұрын
I've been using purple power for 15 years to clean engine parts as long as you don't let it soak In purple power for an extended period of time especially with aluminum it's perfectly safe I've never had any parts rust due to purple power. And as explained in the video to thoroughly rinse the product after cleaning it with purple power. Otherwise you will end up with a chalky residue especially on aluminum parts..

I know that this manifold was obtained separately from any vehicle currently in your garage, but I have to wonder what the head would be like on the vehicle from which this manifold was taken? Specifically, if the head was in the same dirty condition as the manifold......how would you deal with it? Thank you.

My intake on my Chrysler has a runner that opens the flaps to allow air to come in manifold. If After I clean out all the carbon if I spray some WD-40 on the runner that controls that flapper would that cause issues? The friction of the runner due to the carbon buildup is causing my car to code.

I recently upgraded with a new engine for my 4.7. I went with a 2008 intake manifold. Let me just say after you go to the larger intake you can definitely want to go with mid-grade gasoline. So that didn't take manifold a different throttle body 70 mm and different intake injectors I went with four port and removing the torque management was easily a 35 horsepower increase.

Hey Martin, So after I got the new engine. It smoked a bit for about the first 200 miles then settled in nicely. Around 1500 mi I had to bring it into the shop. It's in the shop now actually. It was smoking bad It was letting out a cloud of white smoke I'm not sure if it's water getting in the cylinders or what? Compression felt good though just the smoke man, was eating oil. It's also detonating a little so I'm thinking non- Mopar cheap ass hydraulic lash adjusters went flat.

What about doing the same job on an aluminium inlet manifold? use the same product?
@martinbuilt

yes you can, just don't leave the intake soaking in the purple power over night and properly rinse the intake wit water. Another good and aluminum safe product is Totally Awesome.

Hey Martin, My apologies, I miss read the instructions, it says to test an out of sight area...especially aluminum. My bad, it looks as though it has been used on aluminum but to use it with caution and to test an out of sight area first. My apologies.

No problem, yeah it definitely will mess up aluminium especially if you good soak it for any period of time. It works great on these plastic intake manifold like I used in the video. Another great alternative is Totally Awesome that works well with aluminium.

Can someone tell me please how to remove the oil pan on this engine? Near the front of tranny.. I need to replace bearings on 3.7... but have no equipment to raise engine.. so is it nessesary to move tranny? Or a way around it hopefully? 08 Durango
@martinbuilt
@martinbuilt 2 жыл бұрын
If you're planning on replacing the main bearings you're gonna need to pull the engine. The bed plate needs to be removed to change out the main bearings and this can only be done or would the best be done with the engine removed and understand.
@newhorizons4253
@newhorizons4253 2 жыл бұрын
@@martinbuilt so I would not be able to complete the main bearing replacement just by pulling the transmission? I would have to entirely remove the engine and unmount the engine from the transmission and take the whole engine out?

@@martinbuilt by the way thank you for all of your videos there most definitely excellent and I cannot see another way in which you could do your videos more properly and helpfully. By the way your videos help me to successfully complete the 3.7 timing system replacement. Already did my lifters and rocker arms and the timing system and now I'm wanting to shoot for the main bearings and that's about all I can think that I want to do to it for it to be reliable. I do not have the proper equipment to remove an engine but however I'm thinking about just buying an engine with a lot lower miles and completely rebuilding it and then paying probably about a grand to have it installed. But I know whose videos I'll be going to during the rebuilding process if you do not have a video on rebuilding this which I'm sure you do I will be looking back on your videos.

Well hopefully others will read my comment first before making the same mistakes as me: 1. Do follow safety instructions. Purple Power will tear up your hands. 2. Do not soak parts long term in the stuff. I figured if it soaked white stuff would not appear. It will actually form under the surface of purple power. 3. Yea, don't use on aluminum. 4. Even after soaking it, I still have deposits inside my intake plenum.

What do you consider long term? What is your suggested soak time? 1-3 hrs or less?
@MartinJones1

@@yes.orjust-no I think I left it for a day or so (probably longer). I finally built my own parts washer and washed the deposits along with other crap using diesel fuel. (maybe not the best choice, but it was available). And when I put the pickup back together, praise God, it ran, and ran well. Now I need to do something about the leaky transmission and rotten cab ;)

I've used purple power for 10 years here and there mostly on my driveway. When I saw you using it with bare hands I cringed because that stuff will melt your skin. You normally dilute the PP with hot water to "activate" it. I'm no tree hugger but I would have contained two gallons of contaminated Purple power and disposed of it properly. Other than that, good video.
