One thing I've been doing lately, because I'm older and I can't stay bent down for very long trying to clean things, is to just do one side or the bottom of my oven at a time (over a period of days). That way I don't get back pain or anything like that by working on the oven a bit at a time instead of doing the whole thing at once.
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 2 жыл бұрын
Great idea. I love that you work in segments. 👏👏👏 Do you know about Grill Magic? Here is the paid link amzn.to/3hPpPV9 so you can see what I'm talking about, but they are these silicone oven liners that slide in the bottom of the oven once it's clean. They are heat resistant up to 500 degrees, and they catch all the gunk that falls from pies, yams, pizza, or anything else that oozes. Once the oven is cold, the liner can be slid out with one hand, and then you carefully dump the catchings in the trash. You can wipe and reuse the oven liner, or you can put it on the top shelf of the dishwasher as it is dishwasher safe. I find I can get three or four cleanings out of one before needing to replace it. It's the quickest, easiest way to clean an oven, and then wiping the sides of a door takes two minutes or so to clean rather than an hour for the spraying and scrubbing process shown here.

Suggestion: Remove the oven door first. It easily pops off - there are multiple KZbin videos on how to do it. It’s a game changer. I spray it out in the garage on plastic sheeting. Then you can cozy right up to the opening of the oven and easily reach all the way in the back - way easier than reaching across the open oven door. Plus, while your oven door is out in the garage marinating, you can pop the glass panel off and clean the gunk trapped in between the two plates - KZbin videos available for that as well. I don’t do the part every time I clean, but the door removal is essential. I’m tall with a good reach, but the gymnastics required to clean an oven with that door in the way is totally unnecessary. Hope you find this helpful.

I spray on Easy Off fume free oven cleaner, then lay plastic wrap over it, and let it sit overnight. The plastic wrap prevents the oven cleaner from drying out. In the morning, I just remove the plastic wrap and use a wet sponge to clean up the gunk, which is now soft. I've done that, also on a stainless steel interior microwave and it looked almost new.

Great tip! Thanks for watching. You can use a plastic cutting board to protect the element while you spray around it. That way you're not spraying chemical directly on the element. I am sooo glad you put this up today!! My husband put a cookie sheet in the oven and when he did that there was a potholder stuck to the bottom of the pan or he accidentally grabbed it with the oven mits. About 10 minutes later I smelled something weird and immediately went to the oven and opened it. Smoke billowed out of it and the smoke alarms went off etc. We had no idea what the heck it was until the next day!! The potholder had melted onto the bottom of the oven!!! We were able to get the chunks of black stuff out but now there is a black residue left in the shape of the potholder! We have an African grey parrot and we can not take any chances with the fumes effecting her! We haven’t been able to use the oven since. We can not get this black stuff off the bottom of the oven!! I cut the matching potholder open because it looked and smelled like plastic. There was plastic in the potholder!! Any suggestions would be sooo helpful! Thank you. Sorry that was so long.

I'm not sure if your oven is like this or not, but if it's not a real old oven, you might be able to replace the bottom plate of the oven (if that's the only place the plastic is burned onto). Try to call someone to find out or to look at your particular oven and see if that part might be replaceable or not. It's a possibility. We had aluminum foil burned & forever stuck onto the bottom of our oven once, but it was time to get a new oven anyway, so we didn't bother doing what I suggested to you to try.

Angela, your videos are awesome! Questions: in the back of the oven you are spraying here, there appears to be a convection fan. How do you get the overspray off the blades behind the grate fan cover? Also, do you have a video on how to remove the light cover from inside the oven? Lastly, how do you prevent the spray from seeping into the seams on the bottom of an electric oven. I can not remove the bottom plate because the heating element was in the way… so… ugh… I spent so much time taking a thin plastic scraper to try to get as much of the gunk and oven clean that seeped down into those same seams.
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown Жыл бұрын
+Darci Thompson Hi Darci, thanks for watching and taking the time to drop me a line. The easiest way to do what you want to do is cover the light with some aluminum foil. You can gently crunch it into the shape you need. And you can put a piece of painters tape over the seams to block the spray you don’t want seeping into the seams. Does that make sense?

Take out the racks and put them into a bag with any oven trays and spray into the bag seal up and lay flat. Now take off the door or doors scrape out any loose burnt food, a wall scraper is a good tool for heavily carbonised ovens especially the base of the oven, hoover this out and then spray then oven. Now line the whole oven with tin foil or some bin liners torn down both sides, this keeps the spray foam from drying up and the place you want it, instead of pooling at the base all night. This helps break down the burnt on oils faster. Leave that and the bag for 2/3 hours and it will need a little scrubbing, copper wire is good. If you leave it for 5/6 hours it will just wipe clean. Line the oven and put everything else in a plastic bag and spray it 👍

How would you clean an oven without using oven spray or strong chemicals? Bleach and ammonia are ok.
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 2 жыл бұрын
There are a couple of different ways. A handheld steamer is a natural way with no chemicals whatsoever. If I were going that route, I would use this steamer (paid link amzn.to/3UKGRCg), and instead of the garment steamer head shown in the picture connected to the hose, I would use one of the small attachments that come with it for the oven. This process, while natural, takes the longest because it takes a while for the heat to blast through the gunk - it's already baked on at 400 or so degrees from cooking, so heating up the oven with steam is not as magical as it sounds. The quickest way once clean is to use oven liners like Grill Magic. Here is the paid link to the ones I used amzn.to/3ObBZ6G today. I was cleaning out my oven for Thanksgiving. Woot Woot. 😋 With the oven liners, you pull out the liner, and by bending the edges of the liner, it unearths the droppings into the trash. The walls and door are easy to wipe out, and you just replace the reusable oven liner for next time.

For all of you professional cleaners out there, I really need to know how you handle the issue of self-cleaning ovens. Do you all use the self-cleaning cycle because that can take several hours, or do you not clean the inside of the oven at all which I have heard of? Or do you go ahead and do it by hand which is not necessarily a good thing. I really need to know. Thank you all in advance for responding!
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and for your thoughtful question! Hopefully, other viewers will chime in with their own experiences and tips. When it comes to self-cleaning ovens, it really depends on the situation. If you have the time, using the self-cleaning cycle can be very effective, even though it does take several hours. However, if you're short on time, cleaning by hand is also a viable option, though it requires a bit more elbow grease. Avoiding cleaning altogether will just make it harder in the long run, as buildup can become more stubborn over time. If you do choose to clean by hand, make sure to use the appropriate cleaning products and tools to avoid damaging the oven’s surfaces. Hope this helps, and happy cleaning!

Angela, I saw a video from a housecleaner in another country, not sure where, that cleaned a filthy oven by spraying cleaner then covering it with plastic wrap and leaving it for 5 hrs. When she removed the plastic most of the filth came with it and the rest she just wiped away with a rag. Is this a real technique or a video gimmick? Is it even safe to leave cleaner inside the oven for that long? I’m recovering from a long illness and just do not have the physical stamina, strength, or patience to tackle the nightmare that is my mother’s oven. Unfortunately, I have to use it for the holiday cooking coming up. I’ve already tried to clean it twice and failed. I tried the self-cleaning feature but for some reason I don’t understand, it isn’t working.

Yes, it works because you are keeping the cleaner on the surface so it will break down the gunk. If the cleaner dries out or runs down the side of the oven, it takes longer to clean, and you will have more scrubbing to do. Thanks for the tip. I hope you feel better soon. Sending a big virtual hug 🤗and saying a prayer 🙏for your speedy recovery.

@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you for the information. I’m going to try this method. And I’ll be sure to watch for drying out and sliding. Thank you, also, for the kind wishes for recovery and the virtual hug. I’m mending slowly, but I’m doing so much better now than I was for the last 8 and 1/2 months. I’m just thankful I’m going to be healthy enough to cook the big holiday meals and desserts. And hopefully I’ll have a super clean oven shortly. Wish me luck.

When dealing with a self-cleaning oven, it's important to note that the self-cleaning feature may not effectively clean all types of stains or residue. If you find that your self-cleaning oven isn't as clean as you'd like it to be, you can try using a non-abrasive cleaner specifically designed for ovens and gently scrubbing the surfaces with a soft sponge or cloth. Remember to consult the oven's user manual or contact the manufacturer for specific cleaning recommendations.

How long do you wait after cleaning? I left the doors open for about 5-10 minutes or so, then heated my oven up to burn fumes before eating. I’m wish the product says how long to ventilate for, I’m now left worrying about oven cleaner poisoning :(

In general, most oven cleaners recommend letting the oven air out for at least 30 minutes to an hour after cleaning, but again, it's best to check the label for the manufacturer's recommendations. If you're concerned about residual fumes, you can also try wiping down the inside of the oven with a damp cloth or running the oven on a high temperature for a few minutes after cleaning to help evaporate any remaining chemicals. And of course, if you're experiencing any symptoms like dizziness or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention right away.

@@AskAngelaBrown This helps a lot. And exactly how I did it! After heating at a higher temp there I did wait for it to cool and wipe down again to be extra safe before cooking.

wouldnt it be more effective and easier to remove the oven racks first?

You can sure. Some people also remove the door as well. It depends on your preference. Both ways work.

Angela, have people given you a reason why they don’t like the self clean feature? And do you think it’s true that it shortens the lifespan of the oven itself as I have read and some articles? Also, I’ve read that sometimes the self clean feature can get so hot then it fries the electronics in the oven and stove controls. Have you found that to be true also?

HOW DO YOU GET RID OF THE SMELL OF THE EASY OFF that is suppose to be less smelly than the old stuff. I washed and washed out the oven after, and for about 6 uses of the oven, i could still smell it…ooof!
@AskAngelaBrown
@AskAngelaBrown 2 жыл бұрын
After using spray on the oven if it still smells, you may want to run the oven for 30-45 minutes to burn off all the smell. Once the smell is gone, it's gone.
