Ive just finished my washing process and will coat the arches this weekend with gyeon trim(plastic) rim (brakes) and mohs for suspension. Ive used bilt surfex hd, valet pro combo2 strong alkaline snowfoam prewash, valetpro tar and glue, valetpro bilberry wheelcleaner gyeon iron bilt hamber clay. And a lot of wheelbrushes, vikan flat face that you used an tuff shine tire brush, wheelwhoolies 3sizes and their 1.25inch boarshair brush. The tuff shine tirebrush i used for the first time and im very impressed with that one. I love to clean the wheelarches etc. Find it very satisfying😊

Great vid once again Jon. Some tips there that I wouldn't have thought of. I know what you mean about it being one of the worst jobs but once done it makes all the difference in maintaining them. Hey Jon, top video as usual! A tool I absolutely love for arch work, be it a full clean like this or just on a weekly maintenance wash is a 90° connector on the end of the pressure washer, really blasts out those awkward areas. Cheers👍

Jon, not sure if you’ve tried it but a quick spray of Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac on the brake discs just after washing will stop the brakes corroding and making a mess of those nice clean wheels.

I am glad you talked about the level at which a car wheel arch and components can be brought back. I started decontaminating my wheel arches on my 2014 Focus ST and most of the metal components have lost their black factory coating. Obviously, and as you pointed out, no amount of scrubbing and cleaning is going to remedy that. I am quite happy to paint the parts up, but this is where I usually fall in to a trap and before I know it I’ve got the car stripped to a bare shell just so I can make sure the rest of it is clean! Would you happen to know what paint or alternative coatings would be best applied to suspension components (shock absorbers, wishbones, track rods, etc) that are detailing friendly? I’d quite happily throw a load of Hammerite or machinery enamel on there but I’m not sure how well a ceramic coating would take to those.

great vid once again planning on doing mine before autumn . wheels have recently been refurbished due to pothole damage i too contacted the council and because i was the first person to report it i was not entitled to compensation however if you are the second person to report it and they have not fixed it they have to compensate you. my advice to you is get a friend to report it and then report it the next day also you will need photographic evidence with a tape measure showing the depth and width of pothole only then will you get reimbursed hope this helps mate

i think 7 others reported it before me, problem I have is when I went back to photo it, they had bloody filled it. so they may well get out of it that way.. sucks the alloy is still bananad right now. will end up costing me best part of a grand to fix.. appreciate the council cant always fix them immedietly but generally speaking we have third world half ass shit roads in the UK.. the amount of potholes out there is scary.

Great video!... never the grestest job for sure!... My only tip I would offer to you is that when applying the Gyeon Rim coating get a soft foam applicator and chop it up into 4 bits, then use these to spread and apply the coating. Use the swede cloth and block on the barrels... I got this tip from Tom @ Esoteric car care... has worked many a times when doing complex rims and helps to really apply the coating.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 жыл бұрын
that would work. I cut the block into a little tiny square and it was kind of half decent. but I could see a bit of foam being better.

Hi more great stuff I do my V8 Vantage twice a year and it's hard to get them spotless. I use Gtechniq C5 on wheels and calipers and found it to be excellent but surfaces MUST be dry or it can cloud the surface I use a master blaster and check with a drying towel. You need more than recommend so get the larger bottle I use Gtechniq tar and glue remover to clean the arches after foam and pressure washing. I have also used Reload and C2 on wheels and arches it's cheaper and a lot quicker. I also use Dinitrol Korrotec 485 on steel chassis welds and other steel parts to stop corrosion forming. 👍

Another great video. I would ditch the block for the spokes when coating. To intriacate to try and get it on all surfaces with the block. Same with the callipers. Sure uve done a great job as usual though. I find ABD spray abyss lasts well on plastic liners. Did you have carpet liners on the back? What did you do with those? I tried heavy coating with a scotchguard but waste of my time.

Nice video Jon. Question, is there a reason you haven’t changed your orfice on the foam cannon to a 1.1mm one? Makes a huge difference on low PSI/GPM pressure washers. Cheers from Canada!
@derrooky
@derrooky 6 жыл бұрын
Did you consider using the micro suede cloth without the foam block for coating the caliper and the rim spokes? I wrap it around the gloved finger and secure it with tape. That made the whole process so much quicker and less annoying for me. The AP2 applicator pads from gtechniq are good for these smaller details as well.

14:00 The real problem with old wheel arches is that they took a hard beating from all the particles (mostly small rocks) thrown up by the wheels, and because of that they don't have a smooth surface anymore. So, no matter with what you coat them, 1. you won't be able to achieve a perfectly smooth finish, and 2. dirt will always have an easy time sticking to them, because it will be able to settle in those small dents and crevices. On the other side it still makes sense to coat even these old and battered wheel arches with something hydrophobic and durable (preferably a ceramic coating for trims), because the coating will make it a lot easier to remove dirt from them.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 жыл бұрын
defo gabor they get hammered. Ive done this on old cars and even though you can get it clean you can never really bring back these components. The plastics have a massive amount of fallout in them as well.
@chrisml91

@HumbledGod

meguiars hyper dressing at 1/4 or 1/5 does a great job at protecting the fender liners and rubbers if you can get another coat on within that month theres a very noticeable "absorption" of the dressing to the plastics and the plastic is left with a very hydrophobic effect high shine aswell at those dilution ratios but needed to get the real penetration on older plastics, the price of hyper dressing is a real winner too

hey Vacuum wars. great stuff, always nice to make contact with channels doing simliar stuff. you channel looks great. In the UK a lot of guys including me use the Titan TTB350VAC. It was 25 pounds in wickes. You can use and abuse it throw it around. real cheap workhorse hoover thats great for detailing. only problem with it is the main hose used to choke up and constrict, but you can mod it with the hose kit for the henry vacuums with solves the problem and gives you better attachments. The only other thing dust extraction wise is the Flex range which I am hopefully going to review at some point this year. but for value the Titan is a really cool tool so for the time being I would go with that one, Im not sure if its available in the USA though?

yo mark, this was on kennel road. as your coming down from the race course you go past a couple of buildings at a cross road where the golf course is (the kennels I think they are called) then theres a good long straight in a tunnel of trees before the left turn entrace to goodwood house and the roundabout before the goodwood entrace, it was on that long straight road. lucky I wasnt booting it, would have probably smashed out the alloy. I hit it at about 45-50 and it made an almightey bang. playing the waiting game with the council now, suspect I will get the denied rubber stamp though but im gonna try and fight them all the way on this. the pothole is fixed now so its safe to unleash the fun peddle on the RS :)

Do you have any recommendations on what silver paint to use to pain the brake hubs as the ones on my car are starting to rust
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 4 жыл бұрын
you look at the VHT rattle can range. They do a specific product for this. What I would say is a lot of the brakes use a cheap matt primer looking paint on the centre of the brake hubs and the rust starts to penetrate through this paint. There are lovely high end discs that have a smooth satin paint on the hubs which rust does not stick to or form through. I was meaning to investigate if there was a rattle can product I could use to achieve this satin finish on a brake hub rather than the crappy matt. but like lots of thigns I never get around to it.. if you know what Im talking about and nail it please let me know and vice versa I will if I ever get around to it

It looks like your using a Karcher Pressure Washer they do a handy MINI VP160 VARIO POWER JET that is great for the backside lips of the arches/inner liners. I personally pressure washed the crap out of the under arches first then used Citrus Pre-wash @ 6:1 ration, then PWash again. If you dont have painteed/enamled calipers already then a small stainless steel wire brush (and you can use the Brass version) will help get rid of any corrosion. Followed by CILLIT BANG POWER CLEANER LIMESCALE AND SHINE which will help get a LOT of Rust/Oxidisation off the calipers. Whatever products you use to clean your calipers its a very good idea to spray some Brake Cleaner over the area to remove any contaminents that may impact your brakes. Also for what appears to be a great overall cleaner i saw this in my local halfords muc-off.com/products/nano-tech-bike-cleaner It seems to work great!!! (used on an oily engine bay)

What would you do about the carpeted wheel arches?
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 жыл бұрын
I did nothing. I think these just need periodic blasting and scrubbing. I cant see any product helping to stop dirt and crap embedding into the carpet wheel arches really.. dunno matt. maybe there is something.
@matthewangove6660
@matthewangove6660 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's what I do, I've heard some people vac them but that's just hassle. I was thinking of trying some fabric coat, like you put on the carpets inside but dunno if it could hold up to the amount of crud that flies into it.

In my experience of using Gyeon Rim, if applying by hand the buffing off process is totally different to C5. I see you were barely wiping Rim off in video, I would personally be buffing a lot more thoroughly as Rim won't simply be pulled from the surface as C5 would. If you were buffing the product off black wheels in that manner you'd see plenty smearing

Need some help!, I have recently purchased a used Audi A4 Avant (FSH all good MOT passed) its 2016 model B9 but the discs and callipers have surface rust because the car has been sitting for 5 months at a dealer, whats the best course of action, I would like the callipers painted and the wheels detailed properly, I have called several Garages to get prices but nobody seams to do it, any advise? (I can provide pictures)
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 4 жыл бұрын
they need to be removed Tim. Some Body shops dont like taking the calipers off and having to bleed back the brakes when they refit etc.. and some garages dont provide paint services. They need to be removed and prep'd for spraying and primered and painted with proper high temp paint etc... ITs never cheap you might want to look at a brake upgrade to a set thats already painted and look better.

@@timclansey9720 it might be the best. those unpainted knobbly calipers never look great when painted. theres some lovely looking brakes out there. you might find someone selling like RS4 brakes second hand etc.. dunno food for though... but like painted standard calipers never look that good to my eye.

Not a bad video at all, really should get mine off (but 20's) are a pain in the rear to get on and off easily. It is worth investing in a couple of wheel locating/hanging pins on BMW's (and others) that have a wheel bolt and not a nut. My only irritation IMO at least from what we can see is you decision despite having them not to have a second lifting support in place aka an axle stand. I know BMW's are annoying in that respect but they are stiff enough to loosen the wheel you want, jack the rear up or use the central jacking point if you can. Why introduce risk or damage into the equation unnecessarily. For some of this these days I prefer just driving mine up my ramps front and then rear first. Yes it is not "wheels off", but it less of a faff.

the plastics will be really contaminated. scrub the hell out of them. gonna need lots and lots of passes wit a nice alkaline degreaser or citrus at a good concentration. after scrubbing go again with microfiber cloths.. they will just be black.. but eventually you can get them back. prolly not worth coating them now but something like carpro perl will be good for them.
