Excellent job Emily. I’m glad you tested it before final assembly. I was telling you to switch the prawls, but I guess you didn’t hear me🤔. You knew the problem immediately and rectified it. Isn’t it a nice sense of accomplishment when your learn something new, and complete the job. Well done I don’t know how many people are confident enough to let you come along on a learning experience like that, and then you really made it look like you were an old pro👍👍

The only way to gain more knowledge is to admit that you are missing some. Just as a good practice, when you are unsure of disassembly or reassembly, try to leave one part installed as your reference instead of taking everything apart at one time. Good job!
@Clarks-Adventure4 жыл бұрын
She had the fallback of me knowing how to reassemble it when I got home but good idea to have a reassembly plan. I suggest that people take a picture of the parts before disassembly. I guess she also had the video files so she was good. -C

Sure, but if not I'll give you a finger full. Bring your bearings over.

5:18, that's a needle bearing, you'll know cause it looks like lots of rolling needles. Please use diesel or kerosene for solvent....i cringe at the flash point of gasoline, especially around metal tools (spark) other chemicals. White lithium grease for those gears would have worked nicely too. Good job while Clark was gone.
@howardmann74614 жыл бұрын
Gasoline is a good solvent but it is absorbed into the skin quite easily. Just like acetone it is hazardous to your health. Please use plastic or rubber gloves next time. I want to see you live to a ripe old age, you're to precious!
@stephengreen28982 жыл бұрын

@PaulBartomioli3 жыл бұрын
Next time, use Nitrile gloves to keep your hands from smelling like grease and gas. Gasoline IS NOT a good choice for solvent. Hopefully, you have an absorbent cloth underneath the work area and all the parts. Brake cleaner works well, and would allow you to remove the bulk of the grease on the 2-speed gears. The brake cleaner would go a long way to cleaning the interior parts, then you replace the grease with a spray-on grease. Nice job!! How many winches left to service?

......, and, Clark, Emily demonstrated the most important property of “boy stuff” with “its kinda fun to play with”.

You opine that you cannot use too much grease... but if it is oozing out everywhere it will pick up dust and gunk and can act as a grinding paste in your gears!
@Clarks-Adventure4 жыл бұрын

next time you are in the US you might want to stop by a sporting goods store and pick up the solvent resistant toothbrushes they use for gun cleaning. I haven't found a brush in a hardware store that works as well unfortunately but if anyone knows of one let me know because the sporting goods store I get them from is an hour farther drive then my hardware store is.

Emily, when using solvents, grease and diesel it maybe a good idea to wear protective gloves. If you look at any of the professional marine mechanics they wear than. Safety first
@westmc454 жыл бұрын
never use gasoline to clean parts mix shade tree mechanics do this. Mix WD 40 with Diesel use that its not flammable like gasoline might want to rename this what not to do to clean a winch and it wont eat your toothbrush and leave melted residue everywhere. Other that you seem to know how to clean
@Clarks-Adventure4 жыл бұрын
The main reason for using gasoline here was that we had a bunch of old gas in the generator that needed to be used or disposed of. Plus, it evaporates, so cleanup is easy. Waste not, want not! -E
