This is a great video Oscar and a great technique. There are no harsh chemicals, no obscure tools and no pressure washer required. My technique is very similar the only precaution I take is to cover the alternator.

Thanks for the kind words! And yes, I often cover the alternator with just a microfiber or two

Much appreciation for taking the time to create the videos also what are your thoughts on steam cleaning engineroom i dont know if u already ha e a video on it
@DetailGroove
@DetailGroove 6 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, using a steamer takes too long as opposed to using APC, brushes, and a bit of water

awesome video I don't know if I myself want to do this service just yet only because the engine area has alot of things that can't get wet that's my biggest fear
@DetailGroove

Whatever you're scared of, like the battery, alternator, intake, fusebox, etc... Just wrap it up with a towel or a plastic bag. Once wrapped, don't spray water around it. After you've cleaned everything else, then turn your attention to the areas you wrapped

Another great video! I just got a used car where I need to replace a valve cover gasket and power steering pump. There are signs of oil and power steering fluid seepage around the engine. Do I do the repairs first or do the engine detail first?
@DetailGroove
@DetailGroove 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's totally up to you. If you have the time, I would do both. Touch up the engine real quick just to have a better working area. Then once you fix it, go all out on it

Should cover big electronic components to ensure no water leaks in. Would suck if something leaked.

Hey Oscar just a heads up, not sure if this is happening with other people but I tried to download the link in the description and nothing happened after I entered in my email. Did this for a few of your other videos with download links and the same thing. Are we supposed to get an email? how is it supposed to work? Thanks.

Have you run into specific products not to use, i.e. products that dry belts, make hoses brittle, affect alternators, etc
@DetailGroove
@DetailGroove 7 жыл бұрын
Ehh, I have not. The product only sits on the engine bay for so long.. there's no way it's going to damage something (unless you're using something realllllly aggressive or if there's something already broken)

They're water sealed. Granted, perhaps cheaply sealed, but as you can tell, I'm not holding the hose 5 inches from the engine with a direct stream of water. I'm lightly misting it just to rinse off the product and done. In total, I probably use less than a gallon of water

what about the air intake?
@DetailGroove
@DetailGroove 7 жыл бұрын
That's where common sense comes in. You're not going to hold the water hose directly into the intake and soak it all the way.
@aiden20yearsago51
@aiden20yearsago51 6 жыл бұрын
Most intakes are covered. Its the MAF you want to stay away from. Most new cars are pretty well covered tho. Unlike my car I have a after market air intake so I have to tye a bag around it. Lol

I really want to have engine bay detailing for my businesses, but it really freaks me out. I've done it twice on my personal car with no issues. I don't even want to do it on my wife's car because I'm afraid I'll damage something with the water. I check for the fusebox and air intake, but damaging a customers car would not be ideal.

Jonathan Pizzulo just don't hose the fuse box directly and wrap up exposed pod air filters.
@jaredmiramontes3549
@jaredmiramontes3549 7 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Pizzulo the way I do it is I simply don't use water, I heavily saturate the area with degreaser, agitate, and wipe up with some of my cheaper microfiber towels (I buy a huge pack of low quality 100+ microfiber towels that I use for jobs i know will trash the towels) then I add chemical guys silk shine dressing (or a dressing of your choice) and it turns out great!

Jared Miramontes water helps with cleaning out the hard to wipe areas but I'll give that a try next time I do it too. Sounds less messy and maybe quicker 👍

I can understand where you're coming from. That's why it's important to check the engine bay, ask the customer if it's had any recent problems or repairs, and use common sense and don't shoot water into the fusebox or intake.
@The360punkz

Jonathan Pizzulo try using plastic bags to cover any important parts like battery, fuses, intake, or just any exposed wires

The other issue I wonder about is messing up concrete
@DetailGroove
@DetailGroove 7 жыл бұрын
That can also be a problem. Especially if the customer just put down new concrete or had it cleaned. You could move the car down to the bottom of the driveway, you could put some type of towel to catch the main filth, you could soak down the concrete underneath the engine before you get started

What are the most common things you would need to cover up while doing a engine bay detail? And what other methods are there if your afraid to try using a waterhose or pressure washer? I think that's where everyone's comments are headed.
@DetailGroove
@DetailGroove 7 жыл бұрын
If it's a standard modern car, cover up the intake, alternator, battery, and fusebox. Put a towel over it or wrap a plastic bag around it. If it's a custom or old-school car, it would be whatever is sensitive (like the air filter or distributor). Also, asking the customer basic questions of "Do you know of any problems you've had with the engine?" help to identify any areas in particular. Also, your confidence in yourself has a lot to do with it. Those that are scared/nervous about engine cleaning will have the same worries/nervousness about polishing paint (scratching the car, burning the clear coat, etc...)
