How to clean fishing reel bearings

Ordered the clean touch and bearing soak, both performed well. Really like the clean touch solution, but appears the pump is no longer included.

How can you tell if the bearings are worn out and its time to replace them

If the reel is seized up its often times the bearings are rusted and seized. If the reel sounds dry or feels gritty you probably have rusted out bearings as well. In general if you see diminished performance in general its worth opening up the reel and taking a look. You'll usually see some signs of rust on or around the bearing, and it might be time to switch. People who fish in saltwater in particular will often times replace their bearings every year or 2 as a precaution.

I ordered the entire kit from Boca bearings and did not receive the Clean Touch with that pump on top of the bottle all I got was power Grease and another metal bottle with a screw top

seriously? This is silly. there are two sure fire methods better than this. No need to waste money on silly cleaners. The easiest method is citrus cleaner mixed with water. Throw your bearings in a small jar and shake the for a minute or so. My favorite method is using a micro sonic jewelry cleaner and the citrus cleaner mix. This work amazing if you own a cleaner Oil with a thin viscosity oil like motor oil. I use Zmax additive but its pretty expensive to buy just to put a couple drops in a bearing

I use an ultrasonic also but it's because I happen to have one. This is a seriously inexpensive process. Those bottles will last year's if used appropriately. I bet I spend more on the ultrasonic solution per use than three squirts of that cleaner costs. The trimmer idea is a good one I think, it pretty much accomplishes the same job as an ultrasonic. Idk about the motor oil idea, not for me. Specific bearing oil is cheap also, I paid like $13-14 for a high quality bearing oil a year ago and it's gotta be more than half full still. I have used at least 50 drops over that period. You should see what professional skateboarders do to prepare their bearings and clean them. It makes this process look short and sweet.

@@jeffsmith825 Lots of fisherman use a lightweight synthetic motor oil like mobile 1 0w. $7 will last you forever. If you run that in your car, then there isn't really a cost to snag a syringe full.

There are no such thing as non contact rubber seals. They all cause drag in my experience.
