Tightening the axle cones after the cups shifted inwards were impossible to adjust on plastic mag wheels of that design, The hub side plates prevented intervention.

These and Star-X were the only mags I ever managed to break. Star-X cracked at the hub and I smashed a rear Simplex in half after casing a jump. I hate mags, but if I had to rely on one it would be Skyway. These were very brittle. IIRC these were French? gawd knows, deffo takes me back though. I spent all day bragging about them to my friends only to have to do the walk of shame home with an exploded back wheel.

Thanks for commenting 👍 This pair are in pretty decent shape, although don’t think they’ve been ridden on very much, fortunately I only be posing about on this 😂 I think five spoke mags were generally tougher anyway; Skyways could definitely take more of a beating. I think 80’s BMX wheels were all pretty crappy to be fair.

Hi I have a set of ACS 5 spoke mags both have the same warp in them like something heavy was laying on them or something weird. Do you know how to get the warp out? TIA

Hi Teddy, thanks for commenting 👍 When we were kids the general consensus was to put them in the freezer overnight and they would go back into shape. I can’t actually confirm this though and it may have been an urban myth. If they’ve had something heavy on them they may be deformed beyond repair. My best advice would be to ask on the forum at bmxmuseum.com. If the lads on there haven’t got a solution then there isn’t one. I hope you get them sorted out mate 👍

@@chasetherainbow I have heard of that with the old spoked Z RIMS . Yeah the rear isn't to bad but the front is pretty bad. I scored them at a fleamarket for $10 I'm currently using them on a display bike. Thanks I appreciate your time.

@@oldguyBMX you’re welcome. That was a good score for $10. If there’s no solution on BMX Museum then the other option might be to do exactly the same thing - rest a heavy weight on the affected area and leave then for a few months and see if they deform back the other way? It could work.
