I accidentally stumbled upon the best method to clean these boots. While pressure washing my truck floor mats I accidentally went across the boot. I had been using beeswax which darkened the leather just like this video. Well….the pressure washer cleaned them up to “original color/condition “. 1200 p.s.i. and about 1 min. each and they were back to original! Now i press oil into them daily and once every couple weeks wash them. Couldn’t be happier.

I just received my fudge Rangers, and plan to clean them with Angelus Easy cleaner, along with all my footwear. I started using it for suede and nubuck, and ended up using it on my smooth leather too. its much gentler than saddle soap for nubuck and suede so it won't change the appearance while still having plently of cleaning power. I'll prob hit little day to day stuff with with my suede/nubuck eraser and brush, and will condition with Saphir Oiled leather cream. I personally want to avoid turning them dark brown as long as possible, unless it's patina. I like the way crazy horse ages. Just wanted to present an alternate care method

@@SolidGoldHedgehog With a beeswax-based conditioner like Obenauf's they fare well against rain, dew, and damp, but they are not truly "waterproof" the way a silicone-based treatment, or a liner like Goretex might be. You wouldn't ford a river, or even really stomp too many puddles with them and expect to stay dry, but rain or spray beads and runs off pretty well. I use Obenauf's and they keep me dry walking around rainy Seattle for up to a couple miles at a time. You could go for Sno Seal for something one step up in weatherproofing, but there's no treatment that will turn a South African hiking boot into a lined boot if you need to really trudge through snow or anything like that.

Correct, the suede cleaner we used is a spray on option. After applying it goes as dark as a leather balm or bees was but sinks in a lot faster and doesn't change the look. Before using any product it is best to test it on a small area of the boot first.

For my all black ones, Angelus easy cleaner if they need a good cleaning, warm water on a damp cloth for day to day. I use Smiths Leather Balm on mine too, like these guys. 3 ingredients, cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, and beeswax. It's made in Maine. Being beeswax based, and if buffed with a horsehair brush produces an acceptable shine if that's your thing too. Sheds rain well, and helps when you want to wipe them down, they don't stain as easily. I do it whenever they feel or look a little dry. Not affiliated in any way, just a happy customer and have roots up where it's produced.
