That explains why nubuck is so much nicer. I made the wallet you made out of a shoe! The leather I have laying around is much softer so it was a bit difficult to saddle stitch. I only had embroidery floss so I waxed it first and it worked petty good. 👍🏻

a side effect of nubuck leather is that with the timbs I have they get shiny spots with wear. most of the tongue is smooth leather, and a whole ton of other small patches have this half-matte half-shine thing that's kinda cool. Im actually really excited to see how they shine up as time goes on, since I certainly haven't gotten all my use out of them yet

my understanding is suede is light weight , nubuck is heavy weight. same thickness, suede is lighter i think suede is by product when leather split, its supple, and iirc my suede shoes last 3-4 years, rubber sole give up before suede part dunno how to condition suede, thats why not trying another suede after that lol nice video RM William or Blundstone :)

I do leather work (and many other hand craftings) myself, not a proficionall but it goes hand-in-hand with other hobbies i have. And personally i definetly prefer having the leathers outer part as the outerpart and not sanded, I want it smooth as it is otherwise, with whatever wrinkles it may have. Not sure how big of a difference it makes but as far as i know that side is better at resisting water aswell, assuming you give the leather a coating of fat from time to time. If you dont the leather will soak up anything it can get near.

Could you do a video about how to condition suede as well as how to get rid of mould stain on suede? I have a pair of swede boots that have some aged mould stains. Some video say to use vinegar to wipe off mould. I tried that several times on my boots. Maybe the mould stains became less, but they are still there quite visible. And the swede become very dry after I use vinegar many times to wipe it. I really like your videos. They show things are useful and educational. Thank you.

Not necessarily, the best suede you can have it’s actually rough out leather but not as the one he showed in this video, you can actually distinguish rough out suede from regular suede because the texture will be softer, the color will be more solid and even if it’s softer you can actually feel more body in the rough out suede leather. It’s not that easy to know them apart, but as a guy with leather and shoe experience, I’m telling you that it can be done and it’s actually worth to pay for those kind of items.

I hate taking care of nubuck. The fuzzy side greases up pretty quickly, and the "hairs" (for lack of a better term) get torn/damaged, so I end up with a unkempt/old looking pair of shoes in about a month.

You asked for us to let you know we want more so I am. I will like and subscribe as well. Im not a boot guy but I have been collecting sneakers of 20 years now. Materials have become more and more important to me as I have grown up... I have shoes with Suede or Hairy Suede, Pig suede. I even have a shoe with what is claimed to be Wolverine Suede. I would LOVE to know the difference between all of types of materials. I also have shoes (mostly Ronnie Fiegs) that have a nubuck that is almost oily to touch. It's not wet at all but is soooo smooth and soft it feels wet. It's crazy I am very interested in knowing more about ALL TYPES of materials. Thank you sir.

@miopera402 жыл бұрын
The top harder thinner layer on full grain gives you more water/stain resistance and probably the best natural look initially, but also will crack easily overtime and will give you an ugly permanrnt finish when scratched. Oiled and waxed nubuck is better to me personally, will last longer looking good and will do well in water when packed with oil, though it will pick stains and scratches easily than full grain when used but it will smooth out nicely when conditioned. Rough out makes no sense whatsoever exposes the weaker grain on the outside and the harder more uncomfortable, prone to cracking and moisture trapping on the inside.
@Charles-A Жыл бұрын
On the contrary, it makes all the sense in the world. It is a rough finish that does not get scratched easily on rough terrain or daily use in say, a factory and with contact against sharp surfaces, which is why it is popular with modern combat boots and work boots like Nicks'. That leather can be simply oiled and you can use suede shampoo to keep it clean, and in many instances, you can simply apply Conditioner on the inside, although many boots have a cloth lining in the inside precisely to reduce rubbing against the grain,and they can be just as comfortable as grain side out leather footwear without any of your perceived disadvantages. Please don't speak out of ignorance

I've got a question for you, I've got a pair of roughout Redwings in a very light color (Hawthorne Muleskinner is their official name for it) and I want to darken them without using a dye as I find the color to be too light for me. Any thoughts on what product I could use to do this? I've read some suggestions to use mink oil. Any thoughts on that or if anything else might work?
