How to clean old tools and metal relics with a battery charger and electrolysis. DIY Restoration!

Here's a run down on my "electric water" tank where I bring old tools back to life and value-add to many metal relics I sell in my shop.
I've tried to give clear and comprehensive set up instructions for what is an inexpensive but very effective method of electrolysis cleaning which anyone can do. Yes kids - you can try this at home! :)

That was great, thank you I've never been able to clean up my old brass and rusty pieces very well, now I know how, can't wait to get my tank set up.... I too love old rusty items and actually prefer anything 2nd hand or old over new, I'll be bringing a lot of them back to life now instead of just ornaments hanging around my garden and shed and house walls...

Nope 'Lectric Soda' is a brand name for Sodium Carbonate. Baking soda is Sodium Bicarbonate which is different stuff!

@@TheUltimateRecycler same solution as what? What battery charger? "Standard" power supply is very generic term. Can you please show what you're talking about? What voltage, amp, are you using? Thanks

@@modenaman The solution consists of a few spoonfuls of sodium carbonate dissolved in water (this just produces an electrolyte for better electrical conductivity). It's the same for whatever metal you are trying to clean. The battery charger is a normal 12 volt automotive charger capable of supplying a few amps. Modern "smart" chargers do not work as they think they are being short circuited - so you need an older style. Hope that helps 😊

I tried this. My "Smart" battery charger refused to play along. It detected the obvious short circuit and just cut out.

Yep, unfortunately some modern "smart" things aren't that smart! You do need an older "dumb' battery charger..

You have used the Pliers as Cathode? Why does it's impurities ripped off? Can you explain from scientific perspective?
