A little fast for newbies there bro. When you pushed up on the shell stop to disassemble the bolt mechanism, it would have been nice to see a close up of you working in that area.

This helped me out a lot, I’m kinda new to guns and I bought the Remington 870 12g like in the video. I’ve never taken it a part tell today and this video helped me do it. I didn’t get as far as the trigger assembly I didn’t have the tools to do it nicely but I did the rest and with the same cleaning product he showed. Appreciated this alot

The barrel is very susceptible to corrosion so make sure it's well oiled when storing. Good video. I love my 870.

I’m getting my old 870 back from a friend who was storing it for me since 1990. The gun is a late 70’s vintage and hardly used. I’m hoping the barrel has survived.

Isn't it chrome lined....?
@Tishers4 жыл бұрын
I have an 870 that was in storage and the clip that was holding the barrel was lined with carpet. The carpet sucked up enough moisture from the air that it left a rust half moon on the barrel, only where the carpet had touched it. It hasn't pitted the barrel but to make it look normal I will need to strip and re-blue the barrel. That is very annoying; I have had that shotgun since 1980.
@anthonyakers63743 жыл бұрын
@@Tishers had the same problem mositure must have gotton on mine somehow. Went to the range stored it away for a week weeks when i went to pull it out to clean it had a bit of rust on it very annoying. You think theyd come with some sort of anodized or rust resistant finish. :(

@@Avery9Hopsonwhat? I don’t understand what you are saying I’m a newbie to the shotgun world. Thx.
@Avery9Hopson4 ай бұрын
@@ron8566 When you're sliding your bolt, there is one tab that needs to be compressed for your bolt to slide past it. Move your bolt slightly forward to where it's over the first tab, this keeps the tab from coming back out and blocking your bolt. Then compress the second tab in order to slide your bolt out. I know it's weird, but you'll figure it out. It's hard to break anything so keep fooling around with it.

So many people never care for the magazine on their pump shotguns. It is so easy to remove the cover, spring and follower then stack a few patches on a cleaning jag and see how much grime is in the typical magazine. Face it, every shotshell passes through the receiver on its way to the mag tube, so the shells are bringing dirt in with them. as much oil as is applied and wiped off the barrel should go on the inside of the magazine when done cleaning. Then wipe off the spring and oil it as well. And clean the follower. If you have never done it, go ahead, see what I am saying.

Is the barrel the only part of the shotgun being cleaned with cleaner?
@aronkovacs13862 жыл бұрын
With bore cleaner yes, it breaks down lead fouling. Not necessary for other parts.

I'm new to an 870. Do you need to take the trigger assembly out to clean every time you shoot it?
@pedrobrando46062 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not.I will just spray the inside of the receiver with a airasol gun cleaner,then finish with a airasol gun oil and then compressed air.Store the gun with a thin coat of gun oil in a climate controlled space.You do not have to remove the barrel to clean it. Maybe every 1000 rounds or 10 years would I disassemble a 870 for cleaning.

One comment I would like to add. I started to wear gloves about a decade ago. Watching him spray his hands with the solvents just made me cringe. His first, most important step is critical though. About six months ago I was cleaning my Ruger Mark II and while reading the directions, guess who forgot the first critical step. Nice little hole in my bench to remind me. (and I have been shooting for over a half-century).

WD40 has solvents in it. Once these evaporate, there is little oil left to protect the metal. Perhaps using just to clean and then adding a layer of oil.
