A couple of comments. It is much easier to remove the top if you undo the bleed screw on the top to release the internal pressure in much the same way that releasing the seal either by piercing the lid or using a little gadget makes it much easier to unscrew the lid on a new jar of jam. When everything has been put back together, leave the bleed open and open the lower valve until water comes out of the top. Then screw in the bleed screw. This ensures that there is no air in the system. Then open the top valve and you are done. Use the drain nut at the bottom to drain the unit if you intend to top up the central heating protector.

It's easy for anyone to do. I never once cleaned the seal or added silicone lubricant to the seal and I've never once had a leak. So that extra step is unnecessary and only puts people off doing anything. People should just go ahead and clean the filter as it's easy.

The last step which is not in the video is to slightly undo the nut at the top of the filter to let air out once you put the filter back in place so you don't end up with air in your system. after cleaning the filter.

This is not how to do it folks! You need to release the pressure via the bleed screw before undoing the cap You also need to drain off the canister with the small spanner provided thirdly ,when you finish you need to bleed of any air via the bleed screw I noticed he didn’t do any of these! but like he said it’s easier for people to make mistakes if they don’t know what they’re doing!!

We've got a vokera magnetic filter. It kind of looks the same but it isn't. There is a pressure release valve at the bottom and i don't know there is a tool for that. The manufacturer's instruction manual is really poor as their diagrams do not show where the pressure release valve is or how to undo it. I can guess where it is and it's probably right but we still don't have a tool for this valve. But anyway I really liked your video and you really made me feel like I could do it until i saw that whilst ours looks like yours but actually it isn't quite.

Does not look like you cleaned out the non ferrous particle filter at the bottom of the sleeve. You should have also released air out of the filter by using the air bleed the vent at the top. If you are going to show others how to do thing - you need to get them right yourself. In my opinion you've only half cleaned the Magnaclean. I would not be paying you to clean my Magnaclean. You didn't clean the 2 non magnetic trap chambers at either end of the sleeve and that is where one can find a majority of the debris in some systems! Ideally you should use the purpose made wrench, but in a pinch you can use a chain wrench or similar strap wrench (as used for removing oil filters in cars). Try not to mangle the plastic cover too much (but you'll probably cause some scratching etc with a chain wrench), and make sure to brace the filter body so as not to apply force onto the pipes in and out of the filter (otherwise you're likely to cause a leak).

I have 2 questions 1) How often should you clean the Magnaclean? 2) My magnaclean is very close to the ceiling so it looks like any engineer will have to undo the whole unit at the nuts next to the black cut off valves and remove the unit horizontally. Is there any reason why this shouldn't be done?
@MarkBallardLTD
@MarkBallardLTD 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your reply. Cleaning the magnaclean is normally an annual thing with a boiler service. but with a Magnaclean that is picking up very little dirt and you could probably wait a couple of years to clean. See how much dirty is on it next time and decide from there. If you wish to remove the whole Magnaclean that can be done once the unit is isolated. The Magnaclean professional with the nuts that do up onto the plastic Magnaclean, it is very, very easy to cross thread these. Be especially careful when refitting these, only ever do them up finger tight so you nearly do the entire nut up before using a spanner.

Adding a magnetic filter at any stage in a heating systems life will give some benefit and will help remove free debris circulating in the system. Unfortunately after 7 years, if your system has a lot of debris in it, it will have already deposited much of that inside the boiler and adding a magnetic filter now won't help with that. Generally always best to add the filter when a new boiler is installed to get maximum benefit.

I am assuming these won't replace the need for a full system flush at say 10 years? But might be useful to offer some protection as they clearly do catch some material from what you have shown.

Did you show how to bleed the filter?

Many of these Filter's have very powerful magnets fitted, and can be dangerous to people with PaceMaker's fitted. Some makers actually give a warning.

You need a rapidly varying magnetic field to affect a pacemaker and it would have to be pretty close to have any effect.

He did not follow the manufacturers instructions. He failed to open the bleed screw at the top and the drain plug at the bottom.

way too much silicone used. Vaseline will not work for sealing. You need to release the pressure with a bleed screw at the top before you remove the can lid.

They're already admitting that there valves are not much good by giving you a little plastic spanner to close them off ?!

This guy is a prat, that's how you dont clean clean a magnaclean. first close off valves, then depressurise the from top of the cap. Then undo the cap using the spanner provided. Clean of under tap and then replace with a new seal apply grease. If you have adey mk1 you wont have nipple on the bottom of the can. If you have mk2 onwards it will. undo the nipple drain all the water from can. Replace with new seal on the bottom on can and top of lid. Fill the can half way with inhibitor place magnaclean lid back on . And reverse process. Then fire up the system.
