Hello, in this video i'm going to show you how to clean your wide tip soldering iron, i use this iron for my BGA-Reballing repairs and i clean it regularly, you only need a soft wire brush and some flux and your tip will be like new again.

Hello,I am very fond of your videos and i have some questions: what temperature do you use with your T12 for cleaning pcb boards? i saw that you use liquid flux from Insat for reballing laptop graphic cards,but on their website,bga-rework-co-uk,they use this flux for reflow .They have special products for lifting chips,so why don't you use them? I would like to reball ,like you as a hobby, my old acer aspire 9300 mobo,do you think it will be possible with my puhui t862++ ,irda bga rework station?thks for your answer, gerald

Hi, for cleaning the solder from pcb boards with the t12 iron i use 285-300ºC but i also use the bottom heater on my rework station to preheat the board and this way i don't to use high temp on my soldering iron. Liquid flux, they suggest this flux for reflow because it is liquid and flows under the chip easy, i don't reball using this flux...i use flux paste for reballing, i only use the liquid for lifting the chip and desoldering the bga. I see no reason to buy and use special fluxes for lifting the chip you can do this with any flux, the products they have for lifting are high activity fluxes which are corrosive and after lifting you must clean the bga area. The t862++ is not for reballing , it is for reflow.

Hi again,i forgot another question,sorry:you say your T12 clone is 24v6A ,on the web sellers main talk about 24v3A (70watts),is it making a lot of difference?thks again gerald

the t12 soldering iron uses a 24VDC 6A power supply, i did not say that it consumes 6A, max current needed is 3A

Why do you add Solder to a tip before you turn it off? I'm curious
@NikTelio
@NikTelio 6 жыл бұрын
hi, if you turn on the iron and don't use it for a while then if you wipe the tip it will be shiny but if you let it on without solder, the tip will become black and solder won't stick easy

i have an unrelated question, I am trying to solder a copper pad to a section of my laptops heatsink which is aluminum. But I cant get the solder to stick flush between the pad and heatsink. it solidifies just before pinching down all the way, or sometimes it gets to a point where no amount of heat will liquify the solder while applying pressure to it. any recommendation on how to get this done? I want to solder the copper plate to the heatsink so I can use liquid metal for the TIM. you can search "NP-QX411 Heatsink" to see what I'm talking about
@NikTelio
@NikTelio 6 жыл бұрын
if the aluminium part is touching directly the chip and you solder the copper pad then the copper pad will not touch the chip uniformly anymore and this is a problem, if there was a thermal pad between the aluminium and the chip and you remove it and replace it with the copper pad then it is ok, special fluxes are needed to be able to solder aluminium but to do this you will have to use a heatgun to heat the heasink and reach melting temp and if you do that then the solder holding in place all the other parts already soldered on the copper heatpipe will melt and the parts will fall of, and also the copper heatpipe will blow up like a balloon
@ekdromoi
@ekdromoi 6 жыл бұрын
yeah.. ive already gone through 2 other heatsinks lol.. I was thinking about trying to isolate the section by running constant water through the other sections and maybe using a higher intensity jewelry torch?
@NikTelio
@NikTelio 6 жыл бұрын
i modified 2 heatsinks and i can tell you it is VERY difficult do to it, the problem is the heatpipe because it will transfer the heat everywhere and if you use water like you said then no matter how much heat you apply the water will absorb all the heat, but i think that trying to solder a good thermal conductor (copper) to a bad thermal conductor (aluminium) is not going to have the results that you wanted, it would help a little but in my opinion it does not worth all the trouble
@ekdromoi
@ekdromoi 6 жыл бұрын
the purpose wasnt necessarily to improve thermal transfer, it was to prevent the aluminum from alloying to the gallium in liquid metal. I was also thinking about maybe plating? I've tried it before, but requires a lot of prep work..
@NikTelio

i would just use a good thermal paste and be done with it :) , but if you insist to use liquid metal then i would use a thin copper foil about 0,10mm 15*15mm and use thermal paste between the aluminium and copper foil and on the chip i would use the liquid metal
