I'm still learning this discipline, however, though my ignorance, I can recognize the great amount of attention and meticulousness put into the job. Congratulations! Yes, actually I would like to ask some questions: 1) what if the board has twist or bow? can you suggest a strategy to straighten it before soldering back the chip? 2) you said that the cooling system of that motherboard is inefficient: which temperatures cause the joints to fail over time? can you tell which laptop is? (Maybe it is a Compaq Presario or something similar, because I recognize the board, I have this model, and suffered of bad cooling system, improved by making the heatsink contact on the CPU. And I needed to isolate the capacitors surrounding the die with thermal pads, because the contact with the heatsink caused a shorted CPU)

Nik, i hope you can still reply, i have a ps4 board and the ps4 has been sitting for 6 years, i don’t have a available oven to bake it in, except for the one we use for food but i won’t use that as fumes may come from the board, can i place the board in front of a heater that is probably 60 degrees celsius or maybe slightly more, and leave it in front of the heater for a week? how many days is my questions and if this is viable method. Thankyou
@NikTelio
@NikTelio Ай бұрын
Hello, it depends on the inviorment that the ps4 was stored, how much moisture it has absorbed like if you had it inside a plastic bag or not, lets say the longer you let it dry it is better

I've been known to just remove the old micro usb port and solder power wires to the pads. The postts are trash and break to easily.

Did it ever happen to you that after fixing with reflowing a graphics card that had artifacts or even no screen to show image again but VRAM size is 0 MB and memory bus frequency is UNKNOWN? It indeed happened to me, so i am going to reball the graphics card, however i think i will need to replace the chip. Am I right or it's just an issue with the balls below?

@alfredmanner6881
@alfredmanner6881 3 ай бұрын
Nice work, but one question, why would you need to remove the flux from under the chip using IPA? What's the risk or danger of leaving it there? Most BGA issue are dry joints so if you had flux residue remaining under the chip it will help the joints not dry out I would assume?
@NikTelio
@NikTelio Ай бұрын
Hello, the residue can remain under the chipif you use non conductive and no corrosive fluxes.

great demonstration of the concept, though a poor man's (me😂) version of this is to simply use a lighter on a safe part of the pipe, if there is condensation at the region where you test then definitely it gets cool fast.

I gott this exact same model from the Nvidia HP class action settlement, should have just kept my media center laptop with the borked wifi and the oven temp GPU. I see why they settled the suit with this laptop, it was just as bad if not worse than the system they got sued for.

You focused all the heat on the chip. Would this imply that it is unlikely that the open is occuring somewhere else on the board? Would heating the other side of the board be effective at all? Also, if the solder becomes fluid wouldn't the little components just fall off the bottom sde?

As long you don't move or bump the board when you are in the liquid state nothing moves, the solder keeps everything in place even in liquid state
