this will be my first bolt action other than my first .22 when I was a child. so this video is very much appreciated. this vid is a few years old. but i have seen some reviews saying this rifle is not very accurate and some claim they are how did it work for you all?

Mine did not like Remington Core Lokt ammo. It was pretty inconsistent. If you get one try some Hornady American Gunner or other brands. Possibly Federal (Fusion?) and see. Try a few different grain weights and brands until you find what works best for you. There were some early production models that had accuracy issues out of the box but I belive Mossberg took care of that for those folks. I ended up selling mine and bought the .308 version instead.

I found your video very helpful and to the point. Not too long ago I purchased the Patriot Predator rifle in 6.5 CM. I followed your steps but the only thing I did differently was the night before I put TW25B grease on the bolt lobes and worked it for about 10-15 minutes. I figured it couldn't hurt and might smooth it up a little more. I will say my rifle was loaded with oil and grease. I'm just waiting for my scope, rings and for the ranges to reopen. Have fun! I am going to test this rifle soon with some decent ammo. I didn't get the results I had hoped for with Core Lokt Remington so I didn't film it but will do with the Hornady Match that I recently picked up.

@@travisp11 Will do and you do the same. I picked up some cheaper Magtech 140 grain just to break it in and plink. I also picked up some Hornady American Gunner to test. From what I've read the American Gunner does well in these rifles. Still waiting on the scope and rings .. Bushnell AR 4.5-18x40 6.5 CreedMoor. It has the BDC to make it easier on my old eyes. Tight groups !

@@travisp11 Well the Bushnell was taking forever so I cancelled it. I went with the Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50 with bdc reticle. My calculations should have each hash mark within an inch out to 500 yards. I went with the HS because it is geared towards hunting and has the capped turrets. I went with the Warne fixed scope rings in low. I have 1/4" clearance from the front of the objective bell to barrel. And where the objective bell starts to angle up towards rear (and barrel) I have 1/8". This gives me almost perfect eye alignment as soon as I shoulder the rifle. It's bore sighted and ready to go. I'll let you know how it shoots and the accuracy when I get it to the range. Did you get to try out any new ammo ?

@@1icepounder Thank you for the information! I took it out recently with my newer vortex scope and a few boxes of 130 gr. hand loads from Garage Guns and shot .75" at 100 yards. I know she can do better with some fine tuning but that is perfectly acceptable for deer hunting which is the intention of this rifle. For the money, vortex scopes are great and keep me updated if you can! Thanks!

Thanks for the video. My Mossberg Patriot came with a cheap scope on it. It's called a "Dead Ringer" or something. Its a 3x9x40 so I'll use it for a bit to see how it goes, but I will most likely get something else. Who knows, I may really like it and just keep it. No sense in going out and spending 350$ on some glass when I like the one I'm using. Ill give it a chance. Anyway, thanks for the info. This is my first 6.5CM rifle so I'm super excited to get it out to the range. I hear they have a little less recoil then my 270. I guess we will see. I bought 3 different brands of ammo just to see what one the rifle likes best.

Yeah, that is the scope that came with it in this bundle. I've heard it is fine but if you are gonna go anything past a few hundred yards, a minor upgrade may help. Hope she runs well for ya!

I threw the dead ringer scope in the trash cause it's trash, great video by the way the mossberg 450 is an amazingly fun gun to shoot and hunt with. I love mine.

My .243 patriot is super difficult to lock the bolt down with a round in the chamber. Cycles fine unloaded. Any ideas? Brand new never shot .

The scope I am currently using is a Center Point 4-24x50 but will be borrowing a page from Sandhills Shooter and will be adding a Vortex Diamondback HP.

No need to use a solvent/soap for first clean? Manual says to use solvent on all medal pieces in bolt and receiver, barrel and barreled action.

It will lock up just fine but there is a bit of play in the bolt when you cycle it.

extra space helps protect against jams once you get a lot of powder residue built up
